I inherited my dad‘s Stihl blower. Dad really loved it. I’m left-handed so it tries to suck my jeans. It sucks from the right side. When I worked at home depot, they told me to go mark down a blower to use out in the garden area. I picked the echo and started using it And the department head at first had a calf. But after he used it one time, he changed his mind. It starts every time. It just works. Everybody liked it.

That Kohler 16HP motor is a real work horse. My father had an Ariens GT16 that we mowed a couple of acres with. After my father passed away, my nephew took it up North and mowed his grass for years and finally traded it in on another piece of lawn equipment. The mower was GREAT but the mower deck transmission was a piece of junk.
Thanks for sharing, as it brought back some memories.

  • @Flammable281

The Ryobi edger, I have basically the same unit except mine is a weed eater. The power head looks exactly like the one here. It has a split shaft where you can easily remove the lower part and attach other tools such as an edger, trimmer etc. I bought mine new back in the 90s and it still runs great to this day.

Yea Taryl, some of the best deals are for equipment i too have swaped for labor, and i have a good friend that owns a recycling
business.People throw away some really good outdoor equipment that needs little to restore it to like new condition.over the years i have bought ,lawn and garden tractors ,tillers ,tow behind mowers, hedge and weed trimmers, chainsaws,Generators, and outboard motors that needed little in parts to repair.Hard to believe what some people throw away! They have forgotten the old expression"Use it up -wear it out-make it last,or go without"!!! Now THERE"S YOUR DINNER!!!

I've got 2, F525's and I absolutely love them. I drove a 110 miles to get a bagger system for it and I pick up all my leaves and grass clippings with it. And unlike a ZTR mower that digs a basketball hole where you turn around, the F525 is smooth as glass.

I just picked up F525 with a seized engine. I couldnt find any breaks in the block but it was seized. I tore it all apart and was underneath ready to remove engine bolts and I removed the electric clutch. I found the bearing in the clutch shattered and it was holding the engine in place locking it up.
I now have to put it all back together to see if any damage to engine from this. Im not sure if you have worked on yours but it is a PITA!!!! Hardest mower I have ever seen to work on.

Thanks for the tour. I like your hoard of power equiptment because not only did you repair the items, you store them in a nice clean area. Don't know why you don't keep oil in the generator...that is just one less thing to add to it once you need it. I have one and make sure only to run non ethanol fuel and run it dry once I am finished with a use. Interesting electric start chainsaw what an oddity. I remember the first 4 stroke chainsaw I saw...intersting but I will take a 2 stroke anyday. Now do a tour about your back shop salvage lot with all the cast off junkers.

  • @DanielThomason1
    @DanielThomason1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Just a FYI on the lithium battery usage on the chainsaw. You can use RC car lipos but the voltages are gonna be odd. You can use a 2s,3s or 4s, with voltages being 7.2,11.1 and 14.4. Keep in mind, RC lipos don’t need lots of heat. And you will need a special lipo charger. The chargers can be expensive but cheaper chargers are out there. Also, make sure you run a voltage indicator on the balance plug to keep an eye on voltages, cause if you run a lipo below it’s limit of voltage, it’s junk. Hope this helps with the lipo/lithium battery if your gonna use them.

I've got a trimmer with the same engine as your Ryobi edger. Once took it to a repair shop that sells Stihl. They were all snooty and told me I should just junk it and get something good. Made me so mad I fixed it myself. That was like 20 years ago and the thing still runs great. This attitude of some shops like they're too good to touch stuff that didn't cost an arm and three legs is one big reason I now do all my own repair work.

When Hurricane Ike came through Houston in 2008, we were out of power for 18 days :-O We had that exact generator and a setup like yours with a manual transfer switch. We put a window AC in the kitchen window and ran a large extension cord to it due to the draw. That generator ran non-stop for over two weeks stopping only for a couple oil changes and gassing it up. Ran the window unit and everything in the house fine except for the washer and dryer, so we had to use the laundromat. Good little unit.

I've got a McCulloch Super 55A (no bar and missing the left side cover) and have been searching for parts to complete it. This thing is pretty heavy. It's made of magnesium and aluminum, as yours probably is. I'd love to have electric start on it, but think it's heavy enough without it lol I really like these old machines. I'm also working on a 2 stroke engine powered flame thrower ccompressor. It charges the air tank with up to 2,500 psi. Pretty cool. Was last used in the Korean conflict. The engine and compressor unit are in good working condition, but it needs parts to operate properly. Been searching, without luck, for information on it. Really enjoy the videos you create. I think we graduated high school the same year too. Thanks for the entertainment and good info that you provide. Peace.

I have a $800 gas generator in my garage for 7 years that I never put gas in it, because I didn't need it YET. I hope it works when needed. I'm 74 and I went through some shoulder pain in the past, and I have a big lot that requires a bit of lawn trimming with a gas trimmer. So, I changed to using a light weight battery (20VDC) operated (Worx) trimmer. I haven't had shoulder problems since. I bought a second trimmer for $100, and gave the older trimmer away to an elderly lady that has a smaller yard. I recently purchased the third trimmer with a battery operated leaf blower (a package deal) for $99. I like the use of them for 3 to 4 years and I buy a newer one, because of the wear I put on them. This lawn trimmer is also an edger. I even used it this summer to quickly trim my front hedges (HA!), even though I have an 120VAC electric hedge trimmer I normally use, but why pull out all that electric cord. Right?

I bought my dad a snow commander used 10 years ago and it's a beast...the only bad things about it are it's heavy(still very easy to maneuver) and it's loud!!! I got myself the Honda single stage, originally the 520 model and now the 720 model and they are so much quieter. Also I think the paddle design throws the snow better, plus on the 720 mine has the controls on the handle...My meaning is if you can get a 720 take it!!!
I've also got a similar Echo Power Pruner, it's the orange/fiberglass unit like yours and it's awesome. Makes trimming trees so much easier.
I've also got my inverter generator but I've never used it for myself. I lent it to people during power outages.
Pretty much all my equipment now is used....some had issues and some I found on fb at a good price.

I had a Westwood Lawn Tractor and tried to pull a big log with it. It has a Peerless axle / gearbox, and the two selector keys for the gears wore down and made the machine jump out of gear. So I would not advise using a Peerless gearbox to pull any heavy objects... Maybe you have had the same problems..

Crazy I have a few snow commanders that I got to fix and flip. Used one...not impressed, felt bad for those guys who spent $800 for a new one. Snow Commander was replaced by the Toro Snowmaster for the same price point but comes with a 212cc Locin Engine on it.
I have a collection of Ariens Snow Blowers all from the same Era mostly 11/28’s! All of them are modified but one...I slapped a Supercharged Hemi 420cc Predator on there and added let start. My wife bought the machine for $50 at a garage sale. Thank god the engine was blown.

I like that stihl saw. I used to have an old Stihl 028AV Super Wood Boss, 22” bar, then gave it to a friend. He got it running, that thing cuts wood like there’s no tomorrow.
