There is to me a clear reason for this and he validates this in his comments from 12:40 - 13:09, unfortunately politics is a popularity contest and Abhisit never resinated with the majority of the population that just saw him as a posh other who will never understand their needs.
I hear people saying things like this all the time but he gained very little from being so in comparison the what he could have in the private sector, and the people often needs someone who really understands economics policy and trends as can be demonstrated by Yingluck’s rice scandal. If power was shared between people who have been in industry, academics and paid a CEO’s salary the nation would be unstoppable, this could be said about any nation, look what Singapore has achieved.
