First day of real winter here in NE Ohio. Shakedown run for the season. Found out home is fine, but things at work presented issues. Couldn't find the bucket of rock salt that is supposed to be here. Had a frozen padlock and wind kept blowing out my Bic so I needed the propane torch from the service van. Tank empty. Got a tank and then it still wouldn't light and realized the nozzle was gone. Have no idea why someone would ever take that off. Had to run home for my torch, fired it right up and got the lock open in a matter of seconds. Probably the best plan is to just keep one's own stuff where no one else can use it! Good advice on the medical stuff. Same deal. Stuff will be gone when you need it if others have access to it.
Yes. The cloth band aid is the best. Especially for your fingers. They also offer specific fingertip type which is good also. Never underestimate a wound not matter how small. The enemy is infection and if not taken seriously, can lead to big propblems. That's what my mom the nurse said decades ago! LOL!! Great video!
Temperature changes can alter med supplies - that's why they shouldn't be left in a vehicle all the time. Kaolin clay is inexpensive (you can get it for $5 a pound) & it is an excellent Quik-Stop for bleeding.
Awesome! This is an area of prepping that so many neglect. We all should be stacking a lot more first aid supplies than we think we’ll need. Wound care especially will have people running through a TON of kit fast if the systems are down
@@JeanneBien I’m hoping my equipment will allow for everything. I don’t do livestreams, so I am a bit illiterate in doing them. I’m hopeful the others will walk me through it.
RN here - I'd change the paper tape for Micropore - it is a plastic looking tape with tiny holes in it that make it easy to tear, doesn't damage the skin, sticks well, can be used with Benzoin to make it even stickier (that is good to have for the butterflies, too.). I've seen paper tape tear the top layer of skin right off when being removed. Nasty stuff. Now you are dealing with a 1st degree burn-like injury and a wound. Some online companies see medical supplies for corporate/manufacturer first aid care. They have single use packets of creams, ointments, balms in a dispensing box - usually 100 packets in the box. These packets are great for the smaller first aid kits. I keep some in my car in a small makeup bag. Prevents someone contaminating your tube of ointment/cream if they apply it directly to the wound instead of a clean finger or gauze before applying. I really like the tackle box set up. Efficient and ready to use.
"Boo-Boo Kit" 😂😂😂 I'm gonna start calling it that haha Edit: Our youngest gets mad when there's a bump or a scrape or a sprained finger or a broken foot or pretty much anything lol and I call it a boo boo. "Boo boos are for babies." "Yeah but it's so silly and so fun to say boo boo!" After saying it a few times, I get a smile and a wee chuckle. Takes the mind off the pain, even if it is annoying lol
Excellent as always MR, something i would recommend is a salve called Bag Balm it is pure Lanolin and works better than triple antibiotic ointment and you can buy it at Tractor Supply and also Co-ban can be bought also at Tractor supply or farm store for less money than a drug store, I keep Co-ban in my EMS jump bag in my Pickup, Just some suggestions of stuff that was passed down to me by Oldtimers i grew up learning from. Stay safe
ANOTHER great video! I’m the Utahn that was originally a Michigander and I’m finally back in your neck of the woods in Midland…..hoping maybe to see you in Coos for donuts one day in your town ….which is where I was born millennia ago! Good video!
Good topic- I used to teach Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. I used to encourage class members NOT to buy off the shelf first aid kits but rather put one together themselves. I told them it would be more expensive BUT way more useful. If you get with family and friends you can split bigger boxes of items like gauze pads etc. do you Need 50 4x4” gauze pads in a first aid kit? Maybe - maybe not. I always look for first aid/medical items at garage sales, flea markets and estate sales. I’ve picked up a lot of gauze pads for Very very cheap over the years. Also look at clearance section of the stores you normally shop. I bought several BOXES of various types of medical tape for what it would cost for one roll normally. I’ll have to try the Rexall brand bandages. I normally use Equate brand. Something I keep is a smaller set of bandage scissors, and a very fine tip set of tweezers. Little tip on the Coban wrap, but vet wrap it is normally cheaper and the same thing. I like putting vet wrap around my band-aid to keep dirt away when working outside in garden or workshop. Also get a good Blood pressure cuff and learn how to use it. Don’t get a battery one. It is very easy to learn how to taken a BP. I am also a fan of pulse oxcimeters that measure pulse and oxygen saturation. One other thing is a good thermometer. I recently picked up two medical grade touchless thermometers / someone’s surplus covid stock - for $3 each. I keep extra pulse oxmeter and digital thermometers in faraday cages as well. Know what “normal” readings are for BP, Pulse, respirations etc.
Thank you sir great information as always. Have the same type of kit around the house for those everyday bumps, bruises and cuts. Doesn't seem as though anything stays in their long enough to go bad though LOL. Looking forward to the roundtable Sunday with all y'all. Have a blessed day.

Great topic. Oftentimes, less is more; especially pertaining to a personal ifak. Grabbed a made in USA Plano and a few Tupperware containers from the local thrift store dumpster; both are a good box for first aid supplies.
I've learned from a burn my husband had that you cannot have enough gauze pads on hand, all types. The ones that have a taped edge, the ones to wipe up blood, the absorbent kind that wick away puss, etc. I don't have one dedicated boo boo box but now feel the need to make one for each vehicle in the family. Thanks for the kick start.
MR. Good video. I have 2 medic jump kits & Plastic 'fish lure' box w handle in my truck EDC. An array of med gear & personal meds in my studio. At my backup site I have a couple of serious jump kits and duffle of meds, creams, air way kit & IV kit. Medical books at both places. Good to be prepared. From the 👍. Best
When my nephew was a little boy and hurt himself (nothing serious), he’d cry and cry. I’d tell him “well, that’s a Fun Boo-Boo! Didn’t you have fun before you scrapped your knee? Thru tears he’d say Ya…and would try and stop crying. Lots of love, kisses and tenderness given, but that’s what I’d say! And as a teenager I’d tell him that too..be careful on the slopes. Never have too much gauze! I love the huge bandaids so that i can secure cotton/guaze on a wound. Also, clove oil is a great antiseptic/analgesic. Like the boo boo box MR, thanks!
How about a small pair of scissors. What about those small, medium or large packs that you shake and they turn into a cold pack. Those are great fir injuries that swell?
Tried keeping a bandaid on my finger while hunting in the snowy Upper. Narrow Gorilla Tape. It used to be that bandaids left adhesive on your skin....now they barely stick.

So many uses. I purchased a commercial first aid kit during a bankruptcy sale mainly because of the single use items.
A cheaper way to get that self sticking bandage tape is going to the farm store. It’s the same thing they use for horses but the horse stuff is wider and you get more for less money. Plus it comes in a lot of different colors.
