    Wow! That's pretty impressive sound and features with ease of setup/use. Add in $129 price and sure seems like a winning combo. That's so cool that 1) you suggested mic donations for schools and other orgs and 2) they agreed! I really appreciate how you approach life and TH-cam ;)

    I use Linux, and have always hated the need for extra software for mic adjustments.
    It is nice to find a quality entry that does it all on mic and just plug n play!
    Will be picking up soon!

    You've become a master of always finding your own angle to doing these kinds of reviews or product presentations. The (obviously) improvised proximity/pick up pattern demo with twisting your head around instead of just turning the mic, haha, great! You'll have to do this with every new mic you'll be reviewing from now on. The drier test is classic by now, and you've finally _caught_ it 🙂

    Great overview, sounds excellent, especially for a USB mic. One thing I've decided having just posted a mic comparison of my own after playing with a bunch of non-shotgun mics over the last 2 months, is that I won't be using a shotgun mic in my new setup after we move in a couple weeks. Always fun to watch your videos 👍

      Thanks Don! Obviously a sponsored video has a bit of inherent bias, but I made sure to use and test the mic before agreeing, and I REALLY like it, so hopefully that comes through. • @tombuck
      @tombuck  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sound quality is always pretty subjective, but I’d personally say it has a more “full” sound than the PodMic and definitely better plosive rejection than the MV7. But they’re all excellent!

    After getting this microphone and using it for a week or so I've had consistent feedback and issues regarding how basy my voice sounds. It almost feels as if the bass is washing out all the other sounds and making them muddier, I found the solution to this was using an EQ programme and it worked like a charm. I'm not sure if that's normal for microphones but I would certainly say for acceptable results, just "plug and play" isn't going to help if you're a person with a deeper voice.

    Great review! I bought a blue yeti microphone almost a decade ago and it is now finally starting to crap out on me after many years of hard use and a few drops off the desk. I needed a similar setup with headphone monitoring, gain knob, volume knob, and mute button- all features heavily utilized on my blue yeti. I do wish there was a portion of your video demonstrating the sound quality of the mic as if it was positioned on the desk as a standalone mic without the boom arm. The recording distance comparison was helpful, but not exactly what I was looking for, since I'm looking to pretty much have a 1:1 replacement for my yeti which functions as a desk mic without a boom arm.

    wow this is a really solid option, especially at the price. I really appreciate the physical controls too, especially since if for example you need to use this on multiple computers, you don't need to fuss wtih installing an app. I might actually get this down the road for a condensor mic.
    The revelator dynamic mic also has the same controls as physical buttons, in addition to an onboard DSP. I love it, it's such a great mic hope you get a chance to review it sometime.

    Have always loved Sennheiser. Back in my rock & roll days I always rolled with my own e835 because I hated the ubiquitous sm58s that venues had. Sennheiser has always been my first look company since. Still use their wireless guitar setup and the Senn ENG wireless pack was the standard for more than decade. Sadly I dropped my e835 one too many times. The Profile seems like a strong mic.

    Been watching a lot of your videos since setting up a much improved Zoom experience and chose this mic to use. Through more research I can came across Audio Hijack and Loopback. These two apps, paired with this mic, have created an amazing setup. I was able to sweeten up my mic audio and remove all the ambient background noise using Audio Hijack and a virtual input created using Loopback. I'd love to see you test this setup (or similar) and make a video about it for your viewers. It's truly fantastic. Thanks for all the hard work and amazing videos 👍👍!

    Great review and your review convinced me to pick one up. I am extremely impressed with the overall quality and output. I also have a RODE Procaster paired with a MOTU M2 audio interface and it works very well but I needed something I could use on my work PC; so nothing that needs software or special drivers. More importantly is the headphone jack has enough oomph to power hungry headphones :).
    My only hiccup is I wish the section where the microphone mounts could swing side-to-side and not just up and down. I ended up adapting a piece from my RODE microphone that allows me to articulate the microphone at any angle.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you're enjoying it overall! I see what you mean about the mount being a bit limited. I think they did that to prevent the cable from accidentally getting bent, but I'm glad you found a solution!

    Hi Tom! Thank you for your video! Because of it I sent back the Rode xdm-100. I liked the rode, sounded great (although I had some random popping sounds, don't know why), but it was just so overkill for me right know. Once I figured I had to shell more money for a sturdy arm because of how heavy it is I figured this is the best choice. I really liked how this sounds (more natural than the Rode xdm-100). I tested a 30$ A.I. plug-in on your portion of the video with the background noise and it completely eliminated it so I don't think I will have a problem with my untreated room.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm happy it was helpful! I haven't used the XDM-100 yet, but it seems like a great mic. Definitely big though since it looks very much like a Procaster. The Sennheiser should be available for order soon from what I've heard!

    I've been looking into USB mics lately to improve the audio quality of my voiceovers in videos for my other channel (though I personally don't think it's bad or anything). There are a few (more like several) that seem good for me, but there's so many options, I couldn't decide. I watched this video, and was like "Okay, this is it! I think this is the one!"
    And, of course, not available yet. Haha. Doesn't seem to be really anything out there about it aside from this video, either. I don't know if I'm gonna end up waiting for it or not. Hopefully it comes out - and is actually available - relatively soon.
    Edit: I am leaning towards waiting for it, to be clear. It sounds great (thanks for not doing anything to the signal - and I really like the idea of not needing to mess with EQ or other things). And the rejection of plosives is very impressive. Great video, as well.

    Impressive! It seems that Sennheiser has decided to enter the field of content producers, podcasters and gamers in a big way. The sound quality is simply stunning for the price. Rode and Shure should be worried right now.
    You didn't mention it, so I guess the answer is no. But I'll ask anyway: doesn't it have an app to control it like the Shure MV7?

    Thanks, Tom! Amazing video, as always!
    I have to admit I come from a bias of preferring an audio interface over a USB microphone, but I felt far less skeptical when I finished watching this video than when I started.
    I'm curious if you had to do any significant corrections post processing the audio from this recording.
    I love how there is almost no handling noise, and I love the physical controls! On the rare occasion you may need to adjust the controls during a live broadcast, that would be happening within the frame. Still, if I was to set someone who is new to using an external mic up with this mic, I think they'd feel more comfortable than say with a traditional mic + USB audio interface.
    Thank you again!

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Yash! I myself typically prefer XLR mics because of how much variety there is and how much I do enjoy tinkering with interfaces and stuff, but sometimes you just need a simple option, and I also definitely love having something to recommend to people that doesn't require anything else other than a USB cable 👍
      I didn't do anything at all to the audio, so this is straight from the mic. Although I have been a bit congested, so I think I sound a tad more nasally than normal, but that's not the mic's fault.

    I got mine a couple days ago. I like it -- it's quite a bright mic....I was preparing myself for some muddiness in the mid-high end, but it's crystal clear.
    My one very small nit to pick is that it needs an on/off switch of some sort. When it's plugged in it's on, and it may be weeks between uses, during which time I think the preamp (and gain knob light) should be shut down. It's not a huge deal to unplug the USB cable from the back of the mic....but somewhat inelegant for something that is so beautifully designed.

    I'm trying to understand around the 2:08 mark what you mean by not needing anything else. No audio device for the microphone to plug into and a wind cover like you showed earlier?
    Also, I'm trying to understand what you meant about latency at 3:30. Are you referring to just the sound through your headphones only or to prevent latency? Don't plug directly into a computer to prevent latency?
    I think this microphone sounds super cool but when the gain was turned up, I did hear white noise or something. I was thinking that since it's a condenser microphone, would this be good for ASMR also?
    Sorry so many questions. I try to clump them into one comment. 😬
    I was looking at another USB microphone that, with the gain up, it was still very crisp. But I just wonder with this microphone, if all I would need to do is just run it through a program to get rid of the noise. Any help is appreciated. ✨️

    Great job as always. Looks like a direct compare to the Rode NT USB+. Similar price,`form factor, market. etc. I wonder what a head-to-head sound comparison for the two would be. It probably doesn't actually matter, since the market for these is the no-fuss, non-nerd, close-enough-to-professional for normal people, and a nowhere-near-professional price.
    Looks like any audio nerd recommending this to their non-nerd friends will stay in good stead.
