We have been made aware it is an "I" as in IASA and not an "L" as in LASA. However, we will move forward calling it LASA, because that is funnier. We will not be taking questions on this topic at this time.
Sorry if somebody else already mentioned this, but this show was produced by Brian Henson...Jim Henson's kid...that is why the puppetry is so good. You definitely should watch all of this series. Again...sorry if somebody already told you this. ✌
True dat! Starting with S01E15: "Durka Returns" it firmly finds its legs and from then on out becomes one of the best Sci-Fi series of all time - one of the best series of all time period. Season 3 and the back half of Season 4 are some of the best TV ever.
@@Philbert-s2c just slightly more than the original Star Trek series, plus shorter than the other pilots they reacted to. It’s one worth doing if you enjoy it
@@Philbert-s2c Well They are doing all of Star Trek with 79 eipsodes and then they sound like they're going to watch The Next Generation with well over a hundred so time doesn't seem to concern them. I think it's more about growing the channel watching shows people enjoy.
@@pleasantvalleypickerca7681 Sad thing is - Farscape is infinitely better than both ST:TOS and ST:TNG. Those shows are good - Farscape is frelling excellent!
The practical effects in Farscape, both the puppetry and makeup, are definitely a highlight! The Jim Henson company was responsible for most of it, I believe.
I guess what makes it unique from Star Wars and Star Trek is that there is no grand plan. They aren't trying to reform alien empires or be 'the good guys', they are just fugitives on the run trying to find a home for themselves. I think the main pull of the show is the time you spend with the characters on the ship. You really get to know them.
This is one of my all-time favorite shows. One of the ironies is that John doesn't understand any of the technology, but he's the only scientist among them. Zhan knows medical and related science, and is more of a healer.
Course, one of the major arcs is him accepting that all of that means precisely dick when surrounded by a galaxy of aliens that are smarter, better, more knowledgeable and embracing the sheer insanity of humanity as his strength; though the science stuff frequently assists the insanity.
@@eXpriest They're more knowledgable, but I think he's actually smarter. He's just ignorant of their tech. He's better at understanding physics. He also represents the goodness of what the peacekeepers were supposed to be.
@@thelionsshare6668 I think it's pretty clear that John is the smartest character on Moya, but so far behind knowledge-wise that the other characters assume, incorrectly, that he's stupid. It's a beat the show hits over and over, almost as if it can't make up it's mind about it, which gets a bit old at times.
a series without any brakes on the imagination, a lot of humor, but also a lot of tragic moments. when they ended it, they gave the fans an ending in the form of two two-hour films. gorgeous!!Ben Browder and Claudia Black (John and Erin) then moved on to Stargate, where they remained until the end of the show, replacing the original characters.
The creator of this show once said his motivation was that he wanted to be Gene Roddenberry. And, yes, those muppets are from Henson. (I'm not crazy about the toothy one's jaw design. Most of anything it would eat would end up on the floor. Same could be said for the Gamilon bird with the sideways beak in _Star Blazers_ ). Pilot is quite a large muppet but you never quite get the impression of _how_ large until you see a person standing next to it. Incidentally, the voice is provided by the actor playing Crais. It is going to take a while for John to settle in and be considered a useful part of the team by the others, but that's natural and it adds to the drama. This show is extremely well-written and performed. The collective term for the fans is "Scaper."
This is one of the best science fiction series I think I may have ever seen. It's so original and the use of the Jim Henson puppetry means that we get to have aliens that are non-humanoid, and the ideas and world-building in this are so unique and really stand out among sci-fi shows as a whole. And it does what all the best science fiction does - it shows us a different way of looking at humanity from the outside in. Rockne S. O'Bannon, who was the show runner on this, always does great alien meets human sci-fi, and this is one of the best examples of that.
Farscape is my all time favourite. I truly hope you give this show a go! Honestly one of the wildest rides out there and it truly runs you through all the emotions. There is so much you open to commenting on but not going to go anywhere near spoilers so I'll just sit here hoping you'll give it a go :)
One of the all time greatest science fiction shows and criminally under watched. It's from right before the era of highly serialized TV. So it starts out very episodic, but as others have noted, it picks up momentum as season one concludes and season 2 begins. And even in season one, while they do a lot of classic sci-fi plots, they put their own unique spin on them. Crichton is smart, but this is a completely foreign experience for him beyond any context he might have outside of popular culture. Which leads to one of the running gags of the show, which is Crichton constantly making pop culture references that we, as the audience, get, but that the aliens have no context for. The character arcs in this are some of the best in dramatic television, let alone sci-fi. And they don't shy away from things having real, serious, impact on everyone. There is no hand wavy "everything is better now that the episode of the week plot is done." Trauma is real, decisions have consequences, and some sci-fi events lead directly to whole new vistas of heretofore unknown emotional turmoil. The main plot(s) do achieve resolution with a mini-series that comes after the fourth season (and was partially the result of a fan campaign to save the show). James Gunn sites "Farscape" as one of the primary influences on his take on "The Guardians of the Galaxy." Ben Browder (John Crichton) is even in GoG2 as one of the golden aliens. One of the producers of this show, Naren Shankar, went on to be the show runner for "The Expanse," which is also top tier sci-fi drama. And yes, this is a Jim Henson Studios co-production. I love this series, so I will be very excited if you choose to continue with it.
You guys should check out more Farscape. The show got better as it went on. Incredible character arcs and emotional moments. It's definitely worth watching. Some parts of a pilot seem goofy and juvenile but the show is actually very mature and some episodes were dark. It's a show that will grow on you quickly. Some of the things you guys had issues with they fix after the pilot.
The fact that this show is still so unknown is absolutely criminal. As for the IASA thing, that came about because NASA wanted script approval in order to use their name. Since this show had absolutely nothing to do with NASA or the space program past the first episode, the producers politely declined and came up with something else.
Season 1 is very much one of growing pains but once you hit Episode 20, the show kicks into gear. The Aeryn Sun/John Crichton relationship is fantastic.
Farscape is clearly something that takes a bit to get used to. The first couple of episodes DO spend a bit too much time with "set-up" more than anything else. BUT, once the story kicks off and all the characters are in place (Chiana and Scorp).... it hits its full stride and completely floors you with how tight the overall story actually becomes. Especially as the relationships on Moya get tighter and tighter and everyone on the crew begins to learn all the ins and outs of how everyone's own motivations will make them both predictable, and yet reliable and dependable at the same time. It is a series that does have a couple of "hiccups" at first. But WOW does it deliver.
This is an amazing series. The acting and character depth get better and deeper throughout - the relationships - the weird plot twists and tons of pushing boundaries. They tend to take typical scifi tropes and turn them on their heads. Tons of fun. The psychology becomes deep and at the end, when it all wraps up in the two-part Peacekeeper Wars, the satisfaction is amazing.
While Guardians of the Galaxy obviously existed as a comic first, the style and tone of the movies are more like Farscape than the source material because James Gunn is a huge Farscape fan. This show (and Lexx in different ways) was attempting to be the "anti-Star Trek." Having living ships, aliens that look alien, and aliens capable of being filmed on location rather than only looking good on a sound stage was a huge part of that aestheic. Additionally, having huge organic story arcs and real character development was something else Trek never did well at the time. And Peacekeepers are not the Empire, and not the only threat.
This truly was a unique series. The first few episodes are a bit all over the place, but the characters are superbly engaging and it boasts one of the most unusual and beautiful theme tunes there has ever been in my opinion. For me, the episode DNA Mad Scientist is when I really started to get into it and by the time you reach the end of the first series, it really is cooking on full gas and once it got into its stride, there was nowhere that it was afraid to go in terms of character development, storytelling, humour, horror, even good taste - and it was all the better for it! Really hope that you decide to invest in this - I can guarantee you will be rewarded!
I found Farscape to be one of the most creative, push the envelope type shows ever made. The first season starts out modestly for the first 5-6 episodes, but then really starts to ramp up. Character development is revealed, secrets exposed, new characters are introduced, and towards the end of season 1, one of the best villians ever will reign hell upon John Crichton. Most of season 2 will be John Crichton slowly losing his mind in a way that is so inventive; you'll love it! Throughout the 4 seasons, Moya's crew will change. Some characters will come and go, others will arrive as permanent members. Their are a few new alien species that will become important to the series that have their own agendas and John is usually the focal point.
One of my favourite shows of all time, top 3. I have rewatched this well over 10 times over the years and I think I will continue watching it again every 2 or 3 years. The stories, writing , humour and acting is phenomenal. The chemistry between Aeryn and John is some of the best I have ever seen.
I agree...I wish they could have followed it up with a "Next Generation" type series...They had it all set up with "little D", and Grayza being pregnant. Imagine those two having some sort of rivalry.
This is fantastic show and I am honestly jealous in way that you get to watch this with new eyes. Farscape is my all time favorite and thanks to this episode of yours I will watch more of your content. I very much agree the opening credits spoils a lot of how the characters look, but after that the show is tons of fun!
Farscape is one of my all time favorite shows. It was a Sci Fi channels show (now called Syfy) back when that channel was trying to do new programming. It suffered from scheduling issues similar to Firefly. They would release half seasons, then have a two or three month gap before the second half. It was shot in Australia, or New Zealand which have wonky shooting schedule at the time. The airing days would change several times through out the series run. This caused American audiences to get frustrated with the show. To top it off it was an expensive show to make. It lasted four seasons before it was cancelled. I love Farscape because of it's creative alien design. Being a joint Jim Henson production let the creature shop brake away from the human with a funny nose, or ears trope for aliens. The aliens are really alien. The series also puts some American sci fi tropes on it's ear. While also making reference to them through John from time to time. Remember John is a GenX American astronaut who got dumped in his own Star Wars/Star Trek adventure. The actor that plays Crais also does the voice for Pilot. Anthony Simco (D'argo) is also the man with the tattooed face Malcolm kicked into Serenety's engine in Train Job. Claudia Black plays one of the most kick ass action woman in Sci Fi, and became a voice actor in many video games and animated series after Farscape. She is right up there with Ripply, Vasquez, Leia, and Emma Peel.
I hope you'll give this show a chance. It's one of the best and unique sci fi series I have ever seen. I have only recently discovered the 'reaction community' and Farscape seems to be very rare to find. I think it deserves better. Keep up the great content and enjoy!
What a sweet surprise this is...was not expecting you guys to be watching this one. It is a great series, and I hope you post all the reactions here on YT. 💯
I know! On their Patreon page they wrote that it’s the second most request series to watch right under Babylon 5! The turnout on this reaction is really good too so far! So maybe they will continue
If I remember right the original airing of the pilot had a different intro, no voice over or character spoilers, just a closeup of Crichton in the pod and the music. Don't know why streaming services didn't keep that and went with the episode 2+ intro.
Absolutely love this show! I wish more people reacted. Subscribing in the hopes you'll keep on with it! Edit - The actor who plays the main charector, Ben Browder, was in Gaurdians of the Galaxy Vol II, he was with high priestess Ayesha when they attacked the gaurdians for stealing the batteries. Also, the bad guys are not humans. They are Peacekeepers, an alien race. Just look like us for some reason . . .
@@MrDeathpilot The "Peacekeeper" moniker is explained later on in the series, and especially in the final mini-series. When they encounter the Idolons(sp?) the leader tells Aeryn, "Peacekeeper, do your duty" and Aeryn asks him to explain...and he reveals why they originally were given that title. "Peacekeeper" is also not their 'race'. Their race is Sabacian...they are related to humans, but it is never explained how. They should have had an encounter with somebody who was Sabacian but not a Peacekeeper...it would have been interesting.
YES! Farscape would be great to watch again and hear your thoughts about it. Such a unique show, sometimes disgusting, disturbing, funny and damn sexy. Also Claudia Black and her great voice *_*
A great reaction, thanks for checking this out. This is actually a great series once it gets going the first season is a case of finding its way, but after that it's really good. What I liked about it was that it was different to most things which had come before, as you noted it has a feel of things which came later on, did they take inspiration from this, who knows? I hope that you do get around to watching it as it's not too long of a series to react to, but it is a quality one.
So glad you're doing this show. It contains so many unexpected moments, yet which are completely character appropriate. Whether you watch it here or on your own, you will be rewarded for continuing it to the end.
Please please keep watching this. The show pushes boundaries like few others. I'd love to see a reaction to an episode like DNA Mad Scientist for one, it's only episode 8 of the first season I think and it's full of incredible moments that you'd never find on any other show. Around episode 12 I think the show really hits it's stride and then at the end of season 1 it completely changes and steps up a whole level. It would be a huge hit reacting to this show I really think you guys should try at least one more episode.
good timing on this reaction, i am currently rewatching the series for the last couple of weeks and am about to start the final miniseries they did for the ending, after being introduced to the overall premise of the show in the pilot episode, most of the first 2 seasons are fairly episodic, with maybe a couple of two parters here and there, and only a bit of a continuing storyline, but by the second half of season 3 and most of season 4 is where it gets really interesting with a continuing plot running thru out. loved this show back when it was new and was really disappointed when they ended it so abruptly, would love if someone did a remake of it and actually did it justice.
Its not LASA but IASA (eye-asa). For some reason they couldn't legally use NASA. I found this show when I was deployed to the Middle East and fell in love with it. So much so that I started attending "FarScape" conventions when I got home. As great as the show is, the fans are even better- they welcomed me home with open arms. And every cast member I've met is great. At the conventions some of them would hang out with us (in the hotel Bar) after normal con hours. A big force behind the show was the Jim Henson Company showing they are so much more than Muppets.
A friend tried to get me to watch this show and I was reticent at first, especially because of the Henson creatures (which i thought would make it more of a kids' show - definitely wrong on that one, lol), but eventually gave it a go and ended up loving it. The show is definitely a mix of unique, funny and dark. I ended up getting it on DVD and listening to a lot of the commentaries, and one thing I really admired was how much the cast was a complete unit, working together. They sincerely wanted the show to be awesome and intelligent, even if it meant putting aside ego and saying, "Actually, this storyline would work amazingly for this other character, not mine, and I think it would be awesome that way." I thought that was really cool. Usually on shows it sounds like the leads want all the best stories and the secondary characters just support everything, so to have the two leads be more interested in building the best stories, regardless of who gets the story, even if it's not the leads'... I really respected them all for that. I highly recommend this series to you, if you are able to add it to your schedule.
@@sherrysink3177 I got to meet Gigi Edgley (Chiana), Wayne Pygram (Scorpius), and Lani Tupu (Crais) at a Comic-Con in Seattle.. I can’t remember the year, but it was before comic cons really took off. Gigi was sweet and bubbly.. and she was just happy that I loved her show. She gave me a great autograph picture with words about shining on with Moya. Wayne was so down to Earth and friendly. It was so weird to hear his voice in person talking to me hahah! He ran into me later on and recognized me from talking earlier waving. Lani was quiet. Not sure if he was shy or tired, and I didn’t know what to say. He had a lot of his own art pieces up that looked pretty cool.
I find even in their tropes Farscape went a bit further than contemporaries or their precedessors. There is a reason the bad guys look human, but aren't and they exist in a wider galaxy which informs their actions, even that of the villains. Though sadly only resolved in the mini series there is even a deeper reason why they call themselves Peacekeepers. One of the examples where other shows usually tell less overtly about the bad guys than this does in subtext and organically while still keeping the bad guys bad guys.
2nd post just for some info. It is an American series, but it was filmed in Australia. It didn’t even air in Australia until years later! And The Jim Henson company is definitely involved and credited. Farscape almost got cancelled after the first season because Episode II of Star Wars took over the studio for filming, but luckily Farscape found a new studio to call home and kept it going. James Gunn is a huge fan of both Farscape and Firefly and had both lead actors in the GOTG movies with small roles. If you decide to continue the series, the first 7 episodes are played out of order on original air dates. It’s not the biggest deal, but some things may come across a little confusing.. so you may want to look into the intended episode order. And as for the goofy humor.. it comes and goes, but can only suggest to have fun with it. 🙂 PS.. watch out for spoilers from both Farscape and Buffy. There are a lot of passionate fans who gets real excited with these reactions.
I think it's hard to see outside of the context of the time, but Farscape and Babylon 5 significantly changed and influenced SciFi on television. B5 with it's (very) long-form narratives and literary S.F. themes, and Farscape with it's amazing designs, truly alien beings, nuanced acting, and risk-taking storytelling. The writers really wanted to break with the conventions of the TV genre and go beyond them. It was like they wanted to do things that would *never* happen on Star Trek (from someone taking a wizz on the hanger deck, to characters dealing with long term trauma from the evens of previous episodes.) Not everything they tried worked, but when it did it was some of the most daring and deeply moving sci-fi ever.
So glad your watching this, it's one of the best early 2000 shows, to date I've been a big fan from when it first aired, I do hope you watch all of it. It embraces imagination to it's fullest.
The blue lady played the warrior woman with the compound bow from The Road Warrior. The makeup here involved her shaving her head and slathering that stuff on her every day for three years, which ultimately really badly affected her health
The goofiness almost stopped me from watching the show at first. Would have been a huge mistake! That goes away very quickly and the show is my absolute favorite scifi show. It is one of the most unpredictable and creatively adventurous shows ever with an amazing cast, plots, character development etc. If you haven't seen it yet you are missing out. Go watch it!
Farscape is in my top 3 series of all time, do not let it pass. The series is far way from what could be considered "usual" in SciFi, the first half of the season one is like a stage setting. Rygel is that guy you'd like to kill with your bare hands but then you realize you love him. Even Craiss ha s a nice backstory, none of the characters are exactly what they seem.
You guys made my day! I’m so happy that you like it.. and it’s great to see the love in the comment section too! This show is my all time favorite followed closely by Firefly! I hope you continue the series on the channel! But either way, thank you for giving it a shot! 😁
I definitely need to watch this series definitely heard a lot about. TH-camrs and huge fans of the show praise it. What amazed me about this is that the creatures are so amazing and was created by the Jim Henson Workshop. Truly how awesome that this has a cult following. John is the only human that's in this series the rest of them are different species of aliens. Btw HBO Max was the one that have the Velma series not Peacock. If you guys have time I highly request that you watch/ react this series called Blindspot if you like crime action suspenseful series or Killjoys another science fiction space action.
I don't know which versions the different streaming services that show this use, but in the SyFy version the cuts were sometimes bad because the US had more and longer ad breaks than Australia did. Virginia Hey, the actress who played Zhaan, did eventually suffer serious kidney damage from the body paint. The Peacekeepers look human to we humans, but they aren't quite-- 'nuff said for the moment. And it is the same Henson Company as the Muppets.
Farscape's a great series with some of my favorite fictional characters. I hope you'll continue some time, I feel you would find it rewarding. It's a shame more sci-fi shows didn't go with the Jim Henson company for their practical alien effects after this series.
Just in case nobody else has recommended it, You guys would probably get a big kick out of "Red Dwarf" a BBC comedy/science fiction show from 1988. It's hilarious.
This show is SO Underrated! I Frelling Love this show, please do the rest of the show... if you have any love for Sci-Fi, you Will enjoy it. After it was confirmed that the show was being cancelled, the show recieved a letter for one of the most respected TV show critics of the time that made a direct comparison between the the short sighted cancelation of Star Trek: TOS and the cancelation of Farscape.
You should keep watching this, for sure. It has some great sci-fi elements throughout. Speaking of Star Wars, Zan (the blue lady, who is the flame thrower girl from Mad Max, BTW) only moves at that fast speed for just the one episode, just like the Jedi can run fast for just one scene lol
Yessssss! Would definitely watch all of this with you! :) The puppetry and alien designs on this show are all really great. Are you guys planning on watching at least the first episode of The Expanse at all? Because, well, that'd be wonderful.
@@targetaudience Awesome! Great to hear! :) I love The Expanse, Farscape AND Babylon 5, so if you continued with any of those I'd be pleased. Thanks for checking all these out. 💕
@@targetaudience yeah, I tried the 1st episode of the expanse, it left me wanting. The actors had like a . . . Generic, 2nd tier, 3rd tier aspect to them. I Didn't feel they had a commanding presence { like The CAST of STAR TREK, FIREFLY , or FARSCAPE }
Most tv shows up into the end of 1980s were set up as a 4 acts play, which were about 10 to 13 minutes long. When you get into 1990s they are more commercial breaks up to about 6 times in an hour and less total minutes of show.. Star Trek was a 50 minute show. Farscape is about 8 to 9 minutes less and with the more commerical breaks your acts are now 6 to 7 minutes long so now you have to make the cliffhanger faster in order to keep your audience during the commerical break.
I hope you cover the series. It was a standout in its time, and holds up well. You mentioned guardians of the Galaxy. The lead actor in farscape played one of the sovereign in guardians of the Galaxy 2
I liked the episode and I'm commenting so you guys watch the rest of Firescape. You made a good comment about this being rushed a trend that will continue throughout the series ofttimes they pack so much into an episode that it winds up feeling rushed or crammed. But there's more characters to come later in the series and you guys might enjoy the bizarreness of firescape.
First off, it is IASA. Probably means International Aeronautics and Space Administration, it was never explained in the series. Rigel, or the little grey guy, is one of the coolest characters in the show! The beauty of the show is that it's about being a fish out of water, trying to know the rules, the cultures, the ways of things, living with each other, forming a family bond, and not having much of a reference point for all of them. Gradually, as the show carries on season to season, the characters find their place, they evolve and mature, and become absolute bad asses. The writing is brilliant for almost all the episodes, and yeah, there are some weak episodes here and there, but over all Farscape is my all time favorite sci-fi show, with Babylon 5, and Battlestar Galactica (the newer one) behind that. The show also has one of the best villains this side of Darth Vader, and unlike most shows, the bad guy sometimes wins, and it has some dire consequences on the main cast. It's a smart show, and it doesn't insult the viewers intelligence, while at the same time is comical and fun. I watch the whole series at least once every 4 or 5 years, and in some ways gets better with time, even though the CG is more and more dated. Can't go wrong with Farscape! Edit: Oh, and one thing I noticed is you guys made a lot of comparisons to certain shows and movies, however, Farscape was probably the origin or influence for things that came out after 1999. Hell, I think Guardians of the Galaxy was influenced by Farscape as per James Gunn's admittance. That is probably why Ben Browder is in GotG 2. Farscape had a lot of subtle influences on sci-fi in the past 20+ years, even the use of made up words to cover using swear words, like in Battlestar Galactica.
BSG started the "made up words" back in 1979 with frak/frack, feldercarb, and all of the different words for the passage of time. If anything BSG influenced Farscape in that way. Yes, Gunn admitted several times Farscape was an influence over GotG I always thought that how Krypton used Brainiac was completely stolen from Farscape and Harvey. Also, Six in Baltar's head did the same thing in the BSG reboot.
My computer is called Moya, my wifi is Starburst. My other computers are named after various ships seen in the series. My hard drives are all named after Farscape characters. My phone is named after a character from season 4. My online name is partly based on a recurring character introduced at the end of the first season. Yeah, you might say I'm a fan. Yes, all the puppets are done by the Jim Henson Company which produced the series alonside Hallmark Entertainment (yeah, what's with that?). Jim Henson's son and chairman of The Him Henson Company, Brian Henson was bo-producer, so there's a lot of puppet influences. In fact, you can almost think of the show as an extended showreel for the company. Though the series can take a few episodes for some people to get used to, I think it is _well_ worth the effort and I hope you do more on the channel.
That’s awesome! I’ve been going by my username online for 20 years.. and I also use it for my Wi-Fi too and iPhone name. I also made the picture in my profile pic. I’m thinking about getting it tattoo someday
I've always loved this series! It really is under appreciated. When they originally ended the series they ended it on a cliffhanger. Fans went out and campaigned hard for this show, even getting on the news. Syfy channel decided to give the fans a proper ending in the form of a 2 part movie to end the series. Farscape was one of the first series to campaign and get an ending for there show. I really hope you keep reacting to this show. I would even subscribe on Patreon if you decided to make it a Patreon exclusive. Also hope you keep going with Buffy and of course I'm looking forward to more Star Trek. In particular the movies and the star trek series of the 90's. I know you guys are getting a little burnt out on Sci-fi. You should check out Jericho. It's an apocalyptic series. It's really good and only 2 seasons long.
The entire reason Farscape was canceled is ridiculous. They were in negotiations for season 5. They were arguing over some budget point, or something. Henson's side said, "If you don't give us this, then you can cancel the show." The SciFi Channel had recently changed ownership to Vivendi Universal...so, they said, "OK, you're canceled." The Henson side was like, "No, wait, we were negotiating..." but Scifi said, "Nope, you are canceled." If you remember back then, they had already been approved for the 5th season and they just had to work out the details...Vivendi Universal had just gotten control of the channel and was known to not like the "space" type shows...so they really did not care if they canned Farscape. The stupid wrestling and reality TV shows were cheaper to make and made more money so that is the direction SciFi went. Yes, wrestling is great "scifi". Maybe D'argo can join the WWE. So, yeah, viewer backlash happened and we got the "Peacekeeper Wars". IMO, the canceling of Farscape was the start of the downfall of the SciFi/Syfy channel...After BSG, there has barely been anything worth watching, especially Space Opera shows. Once in a while they get something...but not enough to support the entire channel. There is no Farscape, Stargate SGI, Stargate Atlantis, BSG, Lexx, etc type lineup, like there was 20yrs ago. Too bad some rich billionaire doesn't start something new and get a REAL scifi channel going again.
Its not LASA. Its IASA. INTERNATIONAL Aeronautical and Space Administration. You will find that almost every episode will have at least some reference to the bodily functions of that little old guy, Rigel. It helps to define the character.
Kent McCord, playing John's dad, played the grownup Boxey from the 1978 Battlestar Galactica in its sequel, Galactica 1980. His character was named Troy. Boxey was adopted by Captain Apollo, son of Commander Adama.
This show was a standout for their practical effects. Jim Henson Co. was responsible for the puppet work and many of the alien characters which separated this show from most other sci-if which mostly just had humanoid aliens with different bone ridges and hair.
I just started the series myself and it's a wild ride. I understand why my parents never let me watch it when I was younger with all the sexual innuendo.
Hope you continue on with this. Ive never seen the first season in its entirety. The second season I think is where the series really took off. But if you continue to regularly react to this. I plan on catching up on the first season with you.
If you like practical effects you should really like this show. One of the points in doing it was to prove you can do interesting and compelling sci-fi with puppets. Overall, its a fun romp and worth the watch. this comes from a 54 year old Trekkie. And Yes! This was produced by Henson.
Yes, you can do scifi with puppets....and it doesn't have to look like "The Dark Crystal". Well, unless you reuse the Skekskis for a new space bird race.
The series was conceived by Rockne S. O'Bannon and produced by Jim Henson Productions and Hallmark Entertainment. The Jim Henson Company was largely responsible for the various alien makeup and prosthetics, and two regular characters (the animatronic puppets Rygel and Pilot) are entirely Jim Henson's Creature Shop creations.
Oh, and yeah, it's a Henson production hence heavy practical allllll the heck over. In fact, if you guys like it enough that you get into future episodes you'll recognize, maybe, a specific rig. No details sharing, obviously.
This is my first visit to your channel. I got here from my recommended because I’m a big Farscape fan and this video popped up. Have you guys continued to watch this series? This show gets better and better to a phenomenal finish. By the last season, and the miniseries/movie it’s a series that you’ll start over and watch again.
One thing I really like about Farscape is all the Austrlian accents. I did hearing different versions of English and its not often we get to hear something made in Down under vs. Hollywood
Yep, filmed in the Sydney, Australia Studios, recently set up after The Matrix, made by the Henson company to showcase what they can do, & Sydney was cheaper than anywhere else (most of the cast other than Ben Browder are Australian). It wasn't shown in Australia (or so unregularly late at night, that most fans only got into it on DVD). Being Henson, the alien designs are wonderfully not-star-trek-bumpy-heads, but innovative muppet design instead. Well spotted the actor from the beginning being from White Lotus, the blue alien was in Mad Max 2 (she played the warrior woman in white). If you get past the first half dozen episodes you will find it to be one of the most addictive & emotional sci-fi episodes ever made, one of my most favourite shows ever.
I agree that in your discussion you made me wanna comment on SO MANY thinks but... no way lol no spoilers. it can be a rough first season with some gems in the but damn they find thurr foiting and it gets soooo good, hope you guys take the journey! :) on or off TH-cam:)
Adding to the chorus of asking you to continue watching Farscape. They really grow over the next 4 to 6 episodes. Then it's a wild, great ride for the rest of the series!
We have been made aware it is an "I" as in IASA and not an "L" as in LASA. However, we will move forward calling it LASA, because that is funnier. We will not be taking questions on this topic at this time.
I think it’s funny shuld come up with what the L means
Sorry if somebody else already mentioned this, but this show was produced by Brian Henson...Jim Henson's kid...that is why the puppetry is so good. You definitely should watch all of this series. Again...sorry if somebody already told you this. ✌
The LASA project is a joint venture between the US and France. It's L' Aeronautics and Space Administration.
So on "that Earth" it is a space agency run by Lasa Apsos?
I noticed this was the only Farscape reaction in 5 months. Are going to do anymore?
The first season actually gets better the deeper you get into the series. It's glorious, one of my top five series of all time.
saaaame
Agree
This series gets so insanely good as it progresses. It's up there with Firefly, Futurama, and The Expanse as my all time fave sci-fi series.
True dat! Starting with S01E15: "Durka Returns" it firmly finds its legs and from then on out becomes one of the best Sci-Fi series of all time - one of the best series of all time period. Season 3 and the back half of Season 4 are some of the best TV ever.
Please continue the entire series. It takes until the second half of the first season to really take off, but once it does you're in for a wild ride!
It is a hidden gem. I’m really happy that they gave the premiere a shot and hope they continue!
They may not want to put in the time though. It's 88 episodes plus a 3 hour miniseries.
@@laralongstaff5139 the repetition is there, I think, for the sake of new viewers. As Stan Lee once said "every issue is somebody's first issue."
@@thelionsshare6668 Good point!
a series without any brakes on the imagination, a lot of humor, but also a lot of tragic moments. when they ended it, they gave the fans an ending in the form of two two-hour films. gorgeous!!Ben Browder and Claudia Black (John and Erin) then moved on to Stargate, where they remained until the end of the show, replacing the original characters.
Humans are superior
I say episode 15, but otherwise agree. 😎👍
Agreed, like many shows the first season is a bit rocky but this really is a fantastic series, one of my favorites.
@@CaesiusX definitely episode 15 is where it begins
@@CaesiusX-- You are correct - it's Episode 15 onward is Farscape Prime - sooooo good.
I liked season 1 the most
Farscape is clearly something that takes a bit to get used to.
Welcome to the greatest sci-fi show… Please watch all of Farscape, you won’t regret it… My #1 tv show of all time!
What really makes it work is WE are learning about the ship and other characters through JOHN'S experience of it all. It's personal in that way
This is fantastic show and I am honestly jealous in way that you get to watch this with new eyes.
They brought the show wrapped up with a awesome 2-part 3hr miniseries to close out the story after that cliffhanger in season 4.
Why Sebacians look like humans is a series-long mystery.
I love that they do eventually address and solve it!
@@charlottegerken4477 Yes, the explanation comes in the series concluding 4 hr. special.
Literally my favorite show💜
Mine too! 😊
If I remember right the original airing of the pilot had a different intro, no voice over or character spoilers, just a closeup of Crichton in the pod and the music. Don't know why streaming services didn't keep that and went with the episode 2+ intro.
The intro is what I remember it to be on here.. same thing is the other intros afterwards, but just not voice over of “my name is John Crichton..”
Just look like us for some reason . . .
You gotta love the ironic name for the "Peacekeepers"
It's like "Truth Social" and "Patriot Act".

Wish you guys would continue posting reactions to this. There's just so few reactions out there to Farscape
Farscape is absolutely bonkers good fun.
Farscape is one of my favorite shows. I'd come back to watch more reactions to the show.
This show was unique in that they weren't afraid to make episodes that were completely bonkers. But they were still entertaining.
Would love to continue this one. It will be on the list of options for our patrons to decide what we watch next!
@@targetaudience Awesome. Hope it works out that way!
I believe it's"IASA" (pronounced Eye-ass-a) the International Aeronauts and Space Administration.
good timing on this reaction, i am currently rewatching the series for the last couple of weeks and am about to start the final miniseries they did for the ending, after being introduced to the overall premise of the show in the pilot episode, most of the first 2 seasons are fairly episodic, with maybe a couple of two parters here and there, and only a bit of a continuing storyline, but by the second half of season 3 and most of season 4 is where it gets really interesting with a continuing plot running thru out. loved this show back when it was new and was really disappointed when they ended it so abruptly, would love if someone did a remake of it and actually did it justice.
Farscape is one of the best Sci-fi shows ever .
I always get excited seeing Farscape stuff since I'm named after Aeryn 😅
That’s awesome! I always thought I would name my son Talyn if I ever had kids 🙂
That is so cool. I bet Claudia Black would be very touched if you met her...she seems to be such a sweet and genuine lady.
Pinned comment.
I got to meet some of the actors and they are very personable and embracing. They really love the show they made!
Excited you're checking out Farscape!!
YES! Farscape is so good!
I was fortunate enough to meet some of the actors and they are very passionate about Farscape even after it ended.. and still is to this day
@@talynstarburst2l2l2l See, how cool is that? ❤ (Who did you get to meet?)
PS.. watch out for spoilers from both Farscape and Buffy.
Whenever I rewatch Farscape, I take an occasional break, then come back and wonder why I ever stopped. Such a great show, though!
This show is wonderful. Great cast, great writing, fantastic puppets.
A show fit for a Dominar
Farscape is EPIC. Give it a few eps though.
Oh my gosh! What fun is ahead! Whhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeee! Thank you so much! Great humor in this show, one of my requirements.
If you like Zhaan(blue woman), wait a few episodes. Chiana(grey) is awesome
This show is SO Underrated! I Frelling Love this show, please do the rest of the show... if you have any love for Sci-Fi, you Will enjoy it.

@@targetaudience yeah, I tried the 1st episode of the expanse, it left me wanting. The actors had like a . . . Generic, 2nd tier, 3rd tier aspect to them. I Didn't feel they had a commanding presence { like The CAST of STAR TREK, FIREFLY , or FARSCAPE }

This show does kick in later in season one, well worth watching all of the episodes.
Wait till you find out that the pilot is about the 5th slowest pased episode in the series
Yes, Gunn admitted several times Farscape was an influence over GotG
I always thought that how Krypton used Brainiac was completely stolen from Farscape and Harvey.
@@TheMonker2IMO BSG fell off a cliff at the end of Season 2. That show is vastly overrated. Farscape is much a better written series overall.
Boxey was adopted by Captain Apollo, son of Commander Adama.
farscape nostalgia💜
I found you guys through Trek. I hope you keep going with this. It’s fantastic. This show is so great!
Favorite show of all time, hope you guys continue with it
Oh, and yeah, it's a Henson production hence heavy practical allllll the heck over.
Hollywood
It just gets better as the series continues...Even tv films...Two of the major characters ended up in Stargate series.
I think all three of your options are worth following through on. Farscape is clearly more in your zone.
The villains on Farscape seem to be heavily inspired by the bad guys on the TV series Blake's 7.
I would say Grayza and Servalan are equals. They even look alike.
