I have one reservation. The block/redirection has the handle going against the weakest point of the grip (the open side). The blade can be knocked out the hand too easily... (Anybody from a style that uses a 'witik' strike with a stick knows it can fly out the hand when impacted because the rebound when the weapon connects is towards the fingers end. I see the same scenario here.)
Actually, I don't get why the weaker part of the blade is used for a crucial block at that distance. The edge end is the strongest part of a Filipino blade (I've seen them hack through lead pipes without chipping or bending the cutting edge or stab through a penso coin without breaking the tip). Whatever speed is gained is nulled by the possibility of breaking or bending the blade from an impact on its side. No one cares if you chip or destroy the edge during a sword fight. Not when its life or death.

Well in Filipino martial arts in general we really don't even block truth be told if we have a blade we dont even do disarms we'll cuts the inside arm ether at the wrist or where it bends, get the armpit, or cut the knucks/fingers, attacking from the outside to cut the weapon arm/hand and that would pretty much disarm the assailant. Also a season eskrimador/eskrimadora should instinctively move on the outside for maximum damage. I dont train in Ilustrisimo but it clearly makes sense on the blocking and works, plus Tatang was challenged and his art worked so i dont question the effectiveness. I can see your point though but ya if a block it not needed then cutting should be straight forward.

Well sword they using is kinda thick and they not blocking 100% of the attack only 50% they redirect it to others side and the sword is vertical plat so it will slide

Andy Tyler -Sharpas Fhuuk is talking shit about some of the (sometimes unbelievable) origin stories of FMA. He doesn't realize the core concepts, like the basic but effective ones in this vid, would destroy a dumpy keyboard warrior like him.

i think he is talking about Master Villabrille. A relative of tatang who was thought by a blind master from masbate. who is also a legend in blade fighting. (just saying) he probably got mixed up haha.

@@lightlybreath4527 He's talking about Pekiti Tirsia.
Known in the community as fake Kali/Arnis/Eskrima.
It's even funnier because their name's just inviting to be insulted. Pekiti -> Peke -> Fake.
Disclaimer: I came from Pekiti Tirsia. I have no regrets changing groups and the GM to follow. It's well ahead of all the fakes and 2nd rate out there.
