I can't believe you enlisted your mother and Roy to be a part of your videos. (they both deserve an Academy Award and the videos are great) I think I still have my old Sekonic Multi-Lumi. Great light meter and probably the 2nd or 3rd one I had owned over the years. Although we may poke fun at what seems to be antiquated photo equipment, it was people who loved and appreciated the most basic elements of photography who used a light meter, or who had to understand light, in shooting film photography, to produce a good image. You really had to get the shot right because there wasn't a 128 GB memory card, with room to spare, allowing for re-shots. When I would shoot a wedding with my medium-format film camera, the exposure had to be right. Rolls of 120 were expensive. My elderly neighbor, who was an old-school photographer who had worked as a photographer during the wars in Viet Nam and Korea, would show me images taken with his old analogue cameras, or using old light meters, and although I had 3 DSLR's and a mirrorless in my house next door, I resisted the temptation to gloat, knowing that this old guy had a true love for the techniques and science of photography. It's all about the photographer and not the technology. Props to Darren also for his great acting.
Omg! 😆 Darren passing out from the pork breath, the talking sheep, the Lochness in the picture, and the parents at the end eating desserts 😆😆😆 Hahaha ridiculous.
Your supporting actors, including the sheep, are all just hysterical!! And what a vista with good use of lenses. I wouldn't carry more on the edge of that cliff either!
I always look forward to Sunday evening Gary to see if you have uploaded a video and tonight I was delighted to see your latest upload was well up to your high standards and it was good to see you’ve employed Roy and Mum playing leading parts. I’ve seen Roy in Emmerdale and also Downton Abbey so you are very lucky to get such a fine actor. Well Done
I still have one of those light meters. Your dad's is a Weston, mine is just like but mine is a Sekonic. I bought in 1964 in Okinawa. At that time few cameras had a built in light meter and almost none had a through the lens metering system. I had recently bought a Petri Flex-7 35mm camera with a light meter mounted above the lens. That light meter quit working within a few weeks so I bought the Sekonic meter and a couple of preset telephoto lenses. That was good training for shooting a 4x5 camera a few years later. BTW, that Sekonic light meter worked very well for either a reflected or an incident reading. I shot Try-X 400 ASA film all the time so I mostly used an incident reading for a while. With a bit of experience I didn't use a light meter at all and did very well with my judgement calls.
These videos are the highlight of my TH-cam viewing. Absolutely brilliant entertainment. Your parents are absolutely brilliant; game for a laugh. Stunning photos and scenery again Gavin.
Every Sunday afternoon, I share your Photography Excursion/Escapades with my daughter. While she is not a practicing photographer, thanks to you, she now understands the meaning of things such as Blue hour and Photo stacking. But, its the variety of snacks along with the Scottish/Irish slang, that has us laughing like a sleepover in grade school during your production. Thank you so much for the hard work you put into each program. I do hope, one day, you'll print your own glossary of verbiage for we the viewers! 🧐📷
I think a massive shoutout goes to Amanda in this one. She is such a good sport and a very patient woman to be sitting out in the cold for hours while you wait for the light to happen. There should be an award for that. Also, kudos to Darren for not actually tossing his cookies after eating those pork skin thingys. As for the images, absolutely stunning as always. And Roy and your Mum did a wonderful job looking guilty when you busted them at the end.
Hello from France, Man, You're so funny!😂 I love your videos, Gavin. Every week I wait for youtube to tell me there's a new vlog on line and I'm disappointed if there's none. Fortunately for me, I discovered your Channel only two years ago so it means I still have plenty of previous episodes to watch when there's no new ones. There's no other Channel like yours: eductional content wrapped up in comedy, and You're really good at it 👍
The problem with the Weston, and similar meters that use a selenium cell, is that the selenium cell ages and is no longer accurate. I was getting erroneous readings with a 20 year old unit. I'm real old school and used the data sheet packed with every roll of film that gave recommended settings for numerous examples.
Some years ago I was talking to a local shopkeeper and she lamented the lack of sales of the packets of pork scratchings. I asked if she had ever tasted them and she said no. I got her to try them. I knew they were utterly disgusting and once she tried them she agreed. The continued existence and consumption of pork scratchings is one of the universe's greatest mysteries.
brilliant!..... that ridge with the sheep path.... wtf were you thinking. i wouldnt go down that witha rope and two sherpas. sheep are stupid! they make stupid paths, theres piles of dead sheep at the bottom of those ridges!
Dear Mr. Holdcattle, I am writing as the Donegal representative of Mr Porky's Pork scratchings and as a mark of our delight at your placement of our product in your videos, we are able to offer you a lifetime's supply of the said product on the sole condition that you are seen to consume a packet per video with relish, smack your lips and say 'Yum, the best Pork scatchings ever!' Do we have a deal?😋
A photo genius & entertaining to boot, A rare combination. Loved the family & wonderful locations and beautiful photos. I always look forward to the new clips, keep ‘em coming. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Those outtakes are hilarious. I love the bib and that light meter. You got some awesome shots. They are gorgeous! I saw the Loch Ness Monster, lol. By the way, I would have loved to seen Roy's shots with his film camera 😃
My first SLR camera was an old soviet film camera, I don’t remember the name of the brand. My father had it for years before giving it to me. The light meter was broken and I had to use a handheld meter not much different from Roy’s!!! It took me about 5 minutes to gather the “courage” to press the shutter on each exposure! My friends hated it!!!
Roy's light meter really improved your shooting. Did you have to use a slide rule with it? The waterfall was especially nice! Your mum and Roy are great sports. Love the faces full of pastry filling.
I'm with Darren about Mr Porky. I thought we only had that snack in Denmark (here it's called flæskesvær). Bought it once out of curiosity because I couldn't understand what it was and could not eat it. I always mess up with my Danish friends because they eat that.
Classic episode ! Been watching since you first started posting these videos Gavin. I love all the humour, but have learned a lot as well. All the very best to you all mate Ps Hope Cleetus is ok 👍
Glad you had a good visit to the old country! Your Mom and Roy are wonderful. Photography can be such a serious business, that it's refreshing to see the light hearted humour😊 And hey, listen up to Roy. The ol' boy was shooting long before you knew what a Sonyl is😂
thats not a waterfall...go to Killarney torq waterfall for a proper waterfall....God know I want to go back for the shot, didnt have my camera at the time years ago
What a nice elderly couple, Gavin. And further - I appreciate that you keep the flow pattern in the waterfalls alive - as opposed to this G-fellow up in Canada.
That wasn't the Donegal cousin of Nessie, that was Roy doing some wild swimming: he got the idea from Thomas Heaton, of course. And you were quite right to reject Roy's ancient photo technology, that's the Weston Master IV: I have a much more recent Euro-Master which includes the Invercone. Available for a mere gross of pounds sterling, gerrin touch.
Hi Gary. I live in Melbournr Australia and intend travelling to Edinburgh to trace family tree. Plan to be there around about this time next year. Is this the best time of year to travel to the fairy bridge? Is it an easy drive from Edinburgh? Loved the shoot.
Best book ever written? www.fototripper.com/chasing-awe-landscape-photography-book-gavin-hardcastle/
This book is indeed awesome.
But not as awesome as Darren's photography guides of Ireland 😅🤣😂@@DavidSorensenPlus
I also have a Weston Light meter! Go on Roy, show the bugger!
Amazing pano👏 Roy should be nominated for an Oscar
What a family !! Amanda looks scared, probably wondering what she has gotten herself into

Darren is a good sport. That was some vigorous lens cleaning.
He's had plenty of practice.
@@fototripper 🤣😂 too funny!
Omg! 😆 Darren passing out from the pork breath, the talking sheep, the Lochness in the picture, and the parents at the end eating desserts 😆😆😆 Hahaha ridiculous.
I think Roy was being dead serious about that light meter the whole time! 😂😂 Another brilliant episode.
Love how Roy and your Mom are awesome sports, and play along with your skits! What a fun time. 😊 and as always, amazing images.
Your supporting actors, including the sheep, are all just hysterical!! And what a vista with good use of lenses. I wouldn't carry more on the edge of that cliff either!
Love your Mum and Roy, the stars of the show.
Yes, must get my dads light meter out of the basement.
Love seeing Roy and you mom ❤. Roy is a riot!! Beautiful photography as always.

He got paid better for Emmerdale. I pay in turnovers.
Would love to see that light meter do it's thing. Great show!
One of the most entertaining landscape photography channels out there..
Your humor is just second to none 😂😂😂😂😂
Your mum & Roy are geniuses! I thought I saw Nessie in your photo too - turns out it was a squashed fly on my monitor...!
Love seeing the outtakes at the end!! Your mom’s face was perfect!! 😆😆

Your Mum is bloody brilliant. A comic genius! And so's your Dad!
Beautiful photos as always and Roy and the seat belt! 😂
Your parents are good sports. had a good laugh. Thanks for the video.
Sketchy... like the lighthouse on Kalsoy, Faroes... Yep, I was too chicken!
Now this is vintage Fototripper. Ireland looks amazing too.
Always a perfect combination of comedy and adventure!! Drone video is breathtaking, too!
As usual, another awesome video! I just love your mix of landscape photography and humor. It just can’t be beat.
Your Mum and Roy are all class!!! They really are brilliant. Gorgeous images of those sea stacks though - worth the mess of food.

as is the drinking of tea. Disgusting.
The bib 🤣🤣🤣 great cheered my Sunday up Gavin.. and stunning shots as always 👍
When is Roy getting his own channel? Clearly he's the best photographer in this video and we can learn a lot from him.
You made me spit my potato chips out when your mom put the bib on... You owe me a potatoe chip
FOUR cream pies? that would be a "Beard Meets Food" redux
"You've put me rate off anyway lad!!" 🤣🤣Disgusting behaviour Gavin! It really is! 🤣🤣

You did a fantastic job recreating some of Nigels' shots. Good job!😅😅
I was there first ;)
WOW! What a great pano. I think that is spectacticle.

Ps Hope Cleetus is ok 👍
There were times when I thought Gavin's mum was going to send Roy off to fetch his slipper.
Makes me nervous having tripod so close to cliff edge ha.
Very good. I have the same problem with bibs and cream cakes did you know you can get one with built in pouch to catch the bits for latter.
I love that they will go along with your skits 😂 Great shots as always! 📸😎
With all this A.I.crap taking over photography, Ole Roy may be on to something with his film camera.
Roy is a rock star.
Brilliant 😂❤ ❤ Roy What a star 👍♥️
Roy is freeking hilarious
Just fckn brilliant...... You should do Fototripper bibs...... That last image was superb.
Excellent work, well done all
This was most entertaining, in so many ways. Thanks Gavin.
Great to see ya in my home county. There are some great locations around Donegal
Teasing that ram with pork scratchings. Shame on you!
You should've given him some! 🤣
"Do you need a bib?" T-Shirt....Link in the description below.

Funny! I wonder if Roy got into the water “for here’s the shot!”
What a nice elderly couple, Gavin. And further - I appreciate that you keep the flow pattern in the waterfalls alive - as opposed to this G-fellow up in Canada.
That blue hour image was crackin!!! Who doesn't like pork scratchings? Is Darren Vegan? lol

I never knew the Loch Ness Monster went in for Irish tourism. The things you learn on this channel!
Creeeamy Golden Globe for your parents !
Ahh yes, light meters and manual focussing cameras - flashback! Great video as always
Hi Gary. I live in Melbournr Australia and intend travelling to Edinburgh to trace family tree. Plan to be there around about this time next year. Is this the best time of year to travel to the fairy bridge? Is it an easy drive from Edinburgh? Loved the shoot.
Lol I’m just here for the shenanigans and the photography is actually quite brilliant as well. 🤩
Tbf, those selenium light meters loose sensitivity over time slowly and then just die. Cds is the way to go for hand held meters.
Compact disk.
Hope there are more irish videos Gavin, Beautiful scenery and funny content. Some photography channels im asleep before the end but not Mr G's
Smashing content again Gavin and team. Thank you for the content and quality laughs.
Jelly Babies. Is it weird that I was nostalgic for Tom Baker's Dr. Who episodes from this week's video. 😊
Ah brilliant Roy and Thomas Heaton should amalgamate for a film video !!
Great video love roy to bit's he is so funny with his dry humour what a gem look forward to the video's every week
Excellent video. Well done all.
