Everyone talks about 3:26 but 0:40 will always be my favorite part because all throughout the game, the ghosts laugh at Luigi for being afraid and when he holds up Mario's painting, he gets the last laugh.
Seeing Luigi CRY those tears of relief by finally seeing his brother after a long and sp00ky night, that's one, if not the *MOST* human emotion the Mario brothers have shown us, up until today. Luigi's Mansion is one of the most atmospheric games that Nintendo has ever done.
This ending is so heartwarming and emotional that I can't help but tear up everytime I see Luigi start to cry. The way he laughs shows that he's so relieved to finally be able to lay down the Poltergust and live peacefully again, I love it
Um I'm not sure those tears were for Mario, I think those tears was from Luigi laughing too hard at Mario's head getting stuck but that might not be true.
3:06 This scene..you can really feel the emotion behind Luigi's burst of laughter, combined with his tears, he's so happy that he can still have moments like this with his brother that he just..cries of joy. This ending, man..I love it.
As a kid it wasn’t only relief for Luigi but for me as a player too. I found this game to be actually spooky and unsettling as a kid and the final boss is intense. So beating this game I could feel Luigi’s emotion in this scene like I had that connection with him.
Jack Williams He’s all those things excluding him being an idiot. He is indeed cowardly but when the time comes he’ll do courageous things. Similar to Courage The Cowardly Dog.
@Jack Williams He's a coward in the sense that everything scares him. But isn't bravery when you rush into things headfirst even though you're scared? In that case, Luigi is one of the bravest characters in the Mario universe.
Luigi is essentially Nintendo’s Courage the Cowardly Dog. He is a genuine coward but he is willing to risk his life for his friends and family which makes him arguably the most heroic and courageous character in the Nintendo universe
He laughed because he went through hell to save his brother and his brother finally came back he let out a tear of joy and Laughed knowing he could set down the poltergust for a while
When I was 6, I thought Luigi was tearing up because he was laughing too hard and it was funny...But now that i'm 14, I understand that Luigi was crying because of all things he's been through he finally has his brother back😦😢😭 Nintendo has been with me since I was 6, And to this day its not going anywhere 😂
Yeah. I love Nintendo. I have played it all of my life, so much so that I can't even remember the first Mario game I played. Nintendo will always be the only perfect video game company because it focuses on fun and making new memories and not mindless violence.
This would probably make a lot of people give more respect to Luigi, since he's known for being a coward he braved through ghost that punched, threw things at him, tried to stab him, shoot corks, be blown up, burned, frozen, one near miss lightning strike, shot lasers at him, high pressured water blast, a huge group of boos as a boss, the portrait ghost, king boo and even Bowser I may have missed things but he still went through all that for his bro
Man. Seeing this makes me wish I could’ve been there. Nowadays, it’s not weird to see Luigi saving Mario, but back then, it was a brand new concept. It was also risky marketing wise to put player 2 in player 1’s spotlight in a launch game that’s nearly unrecognizable compared to what came before it. I can’t imagine how it must’ve felt for players, who before this, had never even considered the possibility of an emotional side to the characters, to see these family-friendly video game mascots go from mindlessly saving princesses of mushroom people from a goofy dragon-turtle hybrid with the power of magical stars with faces on them, to suddenly facing the risk of losing each other forever, showing such real and raw emotions of fear, sadness and joy. Call me cheesy if you want, but, I’m my opinion, this was the game that turned these caricatures into characters, and it emphasized on the “Bros.” in “Super Mario Bros.”
I was about 9-10 when I got my hands on a Gamecube in like 2006. A neighborhood kid let me borrow Luigi’s Mansion for my Mario Sunshine. I cannot express to you how beautiful this game felt as a kid. I’ve always been a Luigi fan before the game but seeing him in the front of a box cover without Mario in sight was just unheard of. And, of course, the ending of this game had me crying so bad just because I would personify myself as Luigi and that I would do the same for my siblings. Im 27 now but man.. every now and then I’ll come watch this ending and cry haha i love this game so much
I find it weird how Nintendo, these's childish, family-friendly, happy-go-lucky games make me cry sometimes. This and Pokemon X/Y's ending, for starters.
Luigi is more emotional than Mario, and very much a softie, instead of a hothead. He maybe chicken-hearted, but he's a dedicated, loyal brother and friend, who will not give up on saving those who mean alot to him... and a real gentleman... wonder Princess Daisy has the "Hots" for this lanky plumber! :)
Luigi is not a coward, he is a human being who overcame his fears and is happy to have his brother back! The ending shows that Luigi is more human and has more emotions than the ghosts and boos and he would go the extra mile to see his brother again. :)
To me, seeing Luigi laugh at Mario as tears shed from his eyes is one of the most heartwarming and relatable moments in any video game, because you can really feel how much he missed him after all the crap he had to go through =D
Everything about this ending is perfect; the hilarious slapstick, the timeless Super Mario Bros. theme bringing the player back to a place of comfort and familiarity, and Luigi's brotherly love for Mario. Great ending to a great game!
I’ll admit it, I feel extremely happy getting this cutscene every time I play this. I get this huge wave of relief just realizing what I did; it’s like Luigi’s relief is palpable here! I never get this feeling with any other game. Dark moon and 3 are really good games, but I don’t get that same feeling of “Oh my god, I did it…”
Luigi is so happy, he doesn't even care about all the crazy scary stuff he just went through. He just forgets it all bevause he's just that happy. Nintendo will never have this kind of charm ever again
I think Luigi's tears were a huge mixture of emotions, like laughing from his brother being stuck, tears of joy that his brother that he cares so deeply for his safe, as well as sadness and fear that he thought he would never see his brother again or that he would never get the courage to be able to stand up to his fears in order to save him, but he did, and he is glad that it was all over (for the moment lol). Either way it even tears me up when I start to see him cry, just knowing or imagining everything that he had been through to try to save his brother.
As a kid I loved this scene so much, I could never tell if he was crying from relief that the nightmare is over, joy that his brother safe again, or just laughing is butt off. But I like to think it’s all three. :,)
I'm going to admit, if I ever had to face my most horrifying weaknesses and worst nightmares to find my family and friends, and we all come out alive, I'd be shrieking with laughter out of relief and joy, like Luigi did.
I get goosebumps every time I see Luigi have tears of joy and the music adds so much more like this long horrific journey is finally over and Luigi being the underdog saving the day is heartwarming
This is so heartwarming...I remember shedding a tear when I saw this ending for the first time, I'm not even kidding. I just love how happy and emotional this is!
Why did this honestly fill me with so much joy as kid? I feel like it was so different to any other Mario game ending, it gave me so much more appreciation for Luigi. For brief moment, you really see how much he cares.
Imagine if the process of becoming a painting was permanent? Luigi would have to hang up Mario in the Castle, and Luigi would be forced to fill Mario's shoes when it comes to defending the Kingdom.
Phantom Boi watch Tokyo Ghoul, Mirai Nikki, or basically any dark anime and I assure you will realize that you are indeed wrong. Also isn’t Persona’s art style anime-like?
Rain-dancer its simply the fact this entire time Luigi has only experienced pure fear and finally he knows everything is alright and he can finally laugh all of the fear and sadness out
I feel like them deciding on mocap for luigi really lets the moment sink in. He's finally done with this horrible nightmare and you can see how relived he is in his body language. I'm not sure if they intended to make him look like he's shaking but it really adds a lot to show how despite him laughing at him in the moment, his brother is his whole world to him.
There's so much to this scene that I just love so much. Luigi has spent the entire night in pure terror and dreadfully worries if he'll ever see his brother again. At last, he comes face to face with King Boo and a giant form of Bowser. After the toughest fight of his life, he retrieves Mario's trophy, but can't celebrate just yet. He watches as Mario comically gets reverted and launched out of the machine in hilarious fashion. It's only after he sees his brother before him does the pure relief strike him, as well as the absolute hilarity of what just happened. He cries tears of joy that his brother is finally safe, but also laughs hysterically at his return to normal. Both of these intense, emotional reactions occur at the same time, and they just work so well in bringing me to tears every time I play through Luigi's Mansion. it is one of the most heart warming scenes I've seen in just about anything.
It's like someone you loved has died and you brought her or him back to life through a portrait. Imagine if this technology was real. That's what I see when I watch this ending.
Find of weird to see Mario looks like his modern design while Luigi looks like a hybrid of his modern and N64 look that was never re-used ever since. Strange.
After finishing this game when I was little, I was tearing up like crazy seeing Luigi finally happy. As a kid though this game was a little tricky dicky. I literally couldn't let Luigi down because all this dude wants is to save his bro!! This game was the first game to make me cry, time fucking flies. (17 now)
God I probably beat this game hundreds of times. It's so good. I also never cried at the ending of this game. I just was really happy. But I did tear up a bit at Dark Moon's ending. The part where Luigi takes Polterpup made me almost cry. But that could be because a pet that I've had for years died a month ago. So that could be the reason.
Courage is standing up to what you’re afraid of the most and instead of running you fight. Luigi throughout the whole game was scared beyond all belief. It would’ve been easier to run but he chose to fight for the sake of his brother. Courage shown not said.
When I first saw this ending as a kid I thought Luigi was making fun of Mario for looking dumb, but now I realized just how emotional the ending is and damn it packs a punch
This is among one of the best endings in a Nintendo game. You watch Luigi terrified and goes through so much to finally have a moment of pure joy and the tear really makes it an emotional scene.
Love it. Luigi has always been my favourite, always will be! In an interview with Mario & Luigi's voice actor, he mentions that he loves Luigi as his courage is evident in that he does get scared, but perseveres anyway! Luigi FTW!!!
Everyone talks about 3:26 but 0:40 will always be my favorite part because all throughout the game, the ghosts laugh at Luigi for being afraid and when he holds up Mario's painting, he gets the last laugh.
I agree.
3:28 for the laugh people talk about, actually.
For real though, that laugh is a thing of beauty.
Seeing Luigi CRY those tears of relief by finally seeing his brother after a long and sp00ky night, that's one, if not the *MOST* human emotion the Mario brothers have shown us, up until today.

The game that started it all with Luigi finally branching off from Mario and becoming the lovable coward we all know and love today.
Jack Williams He’s all those things excluding him being an idiot. He is indeed cowardly but when the time comes he’ll do courageous things.
Similar to Courage The Cowardly Dog.
He is like courage the cowardly dog
Definitely not a cowardly. He's just more cautious than Mario.
you do realize that Luigifuckingsucks98's channel is satire right? LMAO
@Jack Williams
He's a coward in the sense that everything scares him.
But isn't bravery when you rush into things headfirst even though you're scared?
In that case, Luigi is one of the bravest characters in the Mario universe.
When I completed this game and watched this, almost tearing up, Luigi became my #1 Nintendo character forever.

Hi me.

+Lapis Lazuli he's my favorite too, Next to Mario and Link.

I love this ending. There’s the comic relief for the kids, and the emotion for the adults.
Nah, the emotion is for the kids too. Don't underestimate a child's heart.
@@logand450 he probably meant in mentality rather than literal age (probably)
@@logand450 Yeah I felt the strong emotion now 20 as same as I did when I was 7 playing this.

This is the kind of touchy-heart feelings Nintendo should have in all their games.
If that were the case I would cry each time I played a Nintendo game
It's not easy to create such emotion as your brother trapped in a painting, kidnapped in a dark house you are terrified in
I like how they made Luigi cry while laughing, adding in more emotion and feel when he finally saves his brother...
This game’s biggest strength is easily making you love Luigi so much, this was the first Mario game to have such raw genuine emotion
