I enlisted in the Marine Corps 3 years ago. I on was academic probation, and would’ve probably ended up flunking out. Working a dead end job. Thanks to enlisting, I’m guaranteed a paycheck. I’ve seen the world. Learned all sorts of lessons. And have the chance to teach Marines and mentor them. I’m taking college classes in Computer Science for free. I didn’t even score above a 60, and I still got a 110 GT score. I wish this dude the best of luck in his endeavors. Whether he goes Ranger or any other MOS; I’ve got full confidence that if he keeps his ears open and stays humble; he’ll have a very promising future.

A 50 and up team is good, he should have some good line scores to get into SF Ranger and OCS or, he can strike a ROTC scholarship with that. He should have Line scores of a GT 105 or better Team. I use to recruit
@@jakezweig with a GPA like that Army could make him a officer. The practice test designed to be harder than the real test. So it should be at least a 10 point spread when he take the real ASVAB

I was in the infantry, airborne qualified, I also served in the Aviation and military intelligence, I also did special duty as Drill sergeant and also an Army Recruiter. Trust me I can help arm you with a lot more accurate information on the army side so you really help this young men understand the Army process
If I wasn’t a year late I would suggest enlisting today as infantry, with an airborne contract. The Army is offering up to a 20K enlistment bonus for people willing to leave within 2 weeks. I don’t understand how he has been working on this for 5 years.
It’s real, the initial shock is a thing. Just remember to follow instructions and do it to the best of your ability. You won’t regret it, pull that trigger and you can do it. I left 7 months before my “actual ship date”. Do it!

ok. no disrespect but this is why you need a army recruiter or recruiter in general to explain this to these young men, the asvab is broken down into TWO test score results. the QT scores and the line scores. the QT score is the category needed to qualify to enlist, the line scores are the scores needed to qualify for a MOS. when they told him 50. that was the QT score which stands for qualification score not the line scores needed to qualify for a MOS. the QT portion is broken down into 5 categories. 0-15 is Cat 5. which they don't qualify. 16- 30 Cat 4. they do not qualify without a waiver which is hardly ever given 31-49 is CAT 3 bravo. They can qualify for MOSs like infantry, Artillery, Supply and few other mos branches but it depends on their line scores as well. They must be a graduate from high school or higher. no high school senior. 50- 64 is Cat 3 Alpha. this is a better score for high school graduates, GEDs and High School seniors. 17 year old will need a parents signature. 18 years of age can enlist without parental consent. 65-89 is cat 2. and 89 to 99 is cat 1. 31 or higher on the QT portion is all that is needed to qualify for the Army. 35 for the marine corp 35 for the Navy and the AF will not take anyone 49 or lower. NOW the line scores are different based on the branch of service. AF used 4 line score areas, Navy uses 8 line scores of the ASVAB. Marines uses 6 and the army used 10 lines score. the 10 line scores for the army is the GT which is General technical , GM General Maintenance , CM is Communications. SC, is Administration EL, is Electronics CO is Combat related, MM, Mechanical Maintenance which mechanics OF which is field Artillery. the line score numbers can go from as low as 85 up to 130 per line score. they must score 95 on the GT line score and at least 100 on the CO line score which is combat line score in order to qualify for infantry as enlisted. they can have as an example, a 45 QT score as long as they have the line scores to meet what ever MOS they are trying to go for. OFFICERs must score 50 or higher on the QT portion and at least have 110 GT score and a 108 on the CO line score to be an Infantry officer. Whenever these applicants go down and take the ASVAB whether is ARMY NAVY USMC or AIR FORCE, Meps will only give the applicants their QT scores because they have meet the enlistment qualification category befoe we can discuss jobs. If they meet the enlistment qualifications. such as the asvab, pass the physical down at meps. pass the background check. nothing in their background that can stop them from getting a security clearence. All officers or enlisted in spec ops community must be able to obtain a TS security clearance. be a US citizen, pass height and weight, if married no more than 3 dependents to include wife, if going officer. they must be graduate of the west point, ROTC program or graduate of a university with an undergrad degree to go OCS. with all that being said, once they get in, they still have to pass the rigorous test to get into ranger battalion. Ranger school and going to RASP to get into ranger battalion are not the same thing. the OFFICER selection is less than enlisted to go SFAS so the wait time is longer.

@@jakezweig LOL. yes its alot. most civilians have no idea that the process to get in is no where that simple yet alone, pass Basic and then try to go for the most brutal physically challenging courses that have 70 percent failure rates. only top dudes pass these courses. I was extremely physically active when I was a kid so the army was not hard but these gaming couch potaotes today will suck at trying to be commandos

DO NOT CHOOSE INFANTRY!! Choose an MOS that will give you more opportunities when/if you leave the military. Medical, HR, technical etc... would be better choices. Good luck to you young brother.
