Very interesting, Chris. I love hearing about heros from the war and its essential that they are remembered. Your videos are precious for doing just that.. A lovely tribute too 👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks, . The Polish airmen 307 “The Night owls “and thier Beaufighters based at Exeter were documented by local historians . I was lucky enough to attend a talk about them and their brave exploits in the defence of Exeter.
Thanks John, you may like to subscribe and check out my other films I published one about Polish 317 Squadron who were lost trying to return to Bolt Head in bad weather. Chris.
Look into the HE111 shot down over Upottery, Devon by a fighter from Exeter. Part of the German aircraft was used by a farmer and his son to plug a hole in a hedge for more than 50 years when I found it with some original paint surviving. Now in a local "museum"/collection.
@@GULLPERCHFLYER It was on a mine laying mission in the Bristol Channel. The pilot, the only survivor, is on record of the night's events. The piece in the farmer's field would seem to explain the uncontrollable spin, though the pilot never knew of this. He even left his parachute harness on the farm that was hung in a shed and lost decades ago. Best interview Mr Donald Arscott, Sweetlands farm, Upottery before all living memory is lost. His son knows nothing useful.
A Air Transport plane , twin engined so could have been a trainer , came down on a Tor near Ashburton. When camping up there I found part of a shattered caged roller bearing. Being an ex RAF Engineer I could see that this was a heavy duty bit of kit , the bearing left and rusted to a bit of cage is a good inch in diameter... It just had to be from a crash because of the damage. After a brief search I found out that I was right. I'm going to have to look it up all over again now , as I've forgotten the name of the place , and the plane.... I shall get back to you with photos, as I'm going back up there soon for a few days. Great Stuff... The Polish were Devils in the Sky ....
Hi Chris,a great video ,a gripping story about some very courageous men ,a gripping story .My dad had an Austin 7 I've seen it in snaps but can't recall itasit was from the early 30's. but I do remember going a later old Singer raking for cockles some where on the Kingsbridge estuary and boiling them on the beach with an old Primus .added protein to supplement the meagre rations of the day. This story just illustrates the huge number of non Brits who flew with the RaAF during the war Cheers Chris great story and all from a single photograph well done.
I like the Beaufighter but then I like nearly all aircraft and wish I could have flown them. It along with the crews have been badly neglected IMO and there should be more videos like this about them. I didn't even know there was a Polish Beaufighter squadron. Bloody disgusting. I'll have to go looking for ebooks about them now. Thank you for the video, it is greatly appreciated. 👍👍
Many thanks Joseph, my interest in Beaufighters began when talking to a local farming family close to RAF Bolt Head when they remarked that the Beaufighter was by far the most noisy aircraft taking off from Bolt Head. Chris.

Thanks for these videos. Every serving man and woman has a story to tell. I hope you can bring us more of them. I swear the woman standing on the balcony could be my mom. She was in the RAF based mostly in St. Eval in Cornwall. Any chance you could do a video on them?

I wonder about your assistant Michael Parrot, since my mum was (by 1944)Lt. Sheilah Kendrick Parrott of the ATS, CO of a detached command' of RASC, somewhere south of London (she was a commissioned officer 'on detachment' dealing with transport) & and can be found as Sheilah K Ancill in the Imperial War Museum website.
Appreciate your feedback, I am not aware of Michael Parrot's family history, if you wish to make contact please send me an email address and I can forward it on. Chris.
@@GULLPERCHFLYER Read the pilot's account of why he dumped his side arm before seeking help and giving himself up for capture to try to help his crew. The pistol was never declared, so never recovered. Has to be in a few hedgerows if you trace his steps from landing to surrender back up the hill. Any metal detectors? The final chapter in the story.
All due respect to our Veterans , Never forget .
Many thanks Gary. Chris.

Great footage of the rest of the RAF and its many and varied tasks. We owe a lot to the Poles, especially their country.

Quite an interesting film . The narrator wasnt bad either. Another bird looking similar to the mosquito. .
The Beaufighter looks more like a body builder compared to the finer lines of the Mosquito. Chris.

There is also the question of the missing, loaded side arm still hidden in a Devon hedge on only 2 possible farms.
