    My rink is closed for all this month for a new floor installation, so it's really interesting to see how some of the maintenance is done. I appreciate the care and effort to keep everything in great condition for everyone to use, thanks for being so awesome! Looking forward to getting back in my rink soon!

    True about hearing impaired feeling music through the wood floor. My sister is deaf and we grew up in a house with wood floors, we could get her attention from across the room by stomping on the floor. She loves loud music 🎶

    This is awesome to get an insight into the inner workings of the rink, I hope you do more videos like this!!! , as a skater we never can appreciate what goes on behind the scenes in running a successful rink and love getting a glimpse into the trials and tribulations of rink management :)

    Watching this video at 2am, because the rink is closed again Monday and Tuesday for refinish. Appreciate the care taken into this, but looking forward to coming back Monday the 11th for Flashback night and another birthday party.

    Can you sand the floor too much? Silly question, but I'm wondering if the floor will eventually disappear with sanding often?

    • @rjabja
      @rjabja 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cherelle :D yes you can sand too much. My grandfather sanded to the point of seeing nail heads and to gue and groove (the favored area of the floor). Push came to shove and we finally had no choice but to replace our 3rd grade hardwood maple floor. When the company came to measure we were told we made a 50 year floor last 85 years. We celebrated our 96th anniversary memorial weekend of this year. Our track is only 50 x 100 but as a new rink in 1926 I am sure it was a dream come true. We are still family owned and operated.

    Birthday moms are scary!!! Everyone complains about the kids (well, teens) who start fights at my local rink during night skates (Friday nights are typically when parents drop their kids off - as young as FOUR! - and go do their own thing)...but I've seen more than my fair share of fights between moms at the children's parties during the Saturday and Sunday "Family Time" sessions.
    The "Party Room" is just spot in the back of my rink with 12...maybe 16?...plastic picnic tables with the built-in seats, so they can host up to 7 or 8 parties at one time, if needed, depending on the number of guests for each. The last "Mom Fight"? All because a child (probably 3 or 4) sat down at the wrong table. Throwing punches and all...not just yelling/screaming...a physical fight. Like...seriously???? (.........and then people wonder why the Friday Night Kids are so bad around here.) *sigh*

    This is where you have a rink owner that actually cares. Have you heard about the rink in Hawaii? (Kapolei Inline Hockey Arena) It's made with abrasive TILES that scrape the skin if you happen to fall. It's awful. There are sidewalks that are smoother. I got my pads, guards, helmet to make the transition to outdoors, otherwise I'd spend $50-$70 per month to skate just once a week!

    i use to skate on a concrete floor as a kid, the problem was i live in the south with high humidity add that to air conditioning, you get water condensation on the floor.

    I said this on another video I skated on the roughest indoor floor I’ve ever seen. It was so hard to move.

    Roller rink floors seems to look more difficult to refinish unlike an ice rink where you just drive a bigass Zamboni over it after a session

  • @trishasmith2303

    Is there ever a time when you have to redo the entire floor? Is that a thing? I know that would be SUPER expensive but curious 😅! Like is there a point when the floor is TOO old to skate on?
