Yes, use of the tongue can be very helpful as an aid to embouchure / lip / jaw control and positioning. Watch the video in slow-motion to see the external changes from the muscular effort of moving the tongue. That effort affects many aspects of embouchure positioning while playing. Each note has its own 'pronunciation', and tongue positioning is part of that.

Hello Tom. I just ordered an Embosure. It hasn't come yet. But I'm confused looking at this video based on what you're saying and demonstrating from about 5:25 to about 5:30. There you are slurring where it looks like you are manipulating your face/mouth to slur, especially ascending up the scale. (Don't know how else to describe your facial movements). Are you saying that is the way to slur up & down; that's the way to do it; because it sounds great! If not, can you describe the proper way to ascend? Looks like you are doing the same thing from about 6:00 to 6:10. Thanks!

Re: tongue position, sounds like you’re almost adopting what some call “anchor tongue” as outlined in some of Claude Gordon’s books like “Playing is no harder than deep breathing” and “tongue level exercises”. Says to keep til of tongue behind lower teeth. I’ve gone back and forth on this approach and it can get confusing. Wonder if you have any thoughts on this whole concept? Thanks for your videos and knowledge sharing.
