  • Carpentering is a tough job, especially so when you're a female in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Meet 25-year-old Lyn Ng, who left her cushy marketing job to pursue her passion for carpentry.
    And as she puts it - "At the end of the day, this is your life. If you're always listening to what people tell you, you can't achieve much."

    Actually carpentry is very interesting especially for people who likes doing crafts. She is my spirit animal. As the only girl in the family, my family expect me to do like girly stuff but actually i like hiking, carpentry and hard stuff. I do those in secret😂😂😁

      Gautham Arun ,because according to my family's tradition, girls can only do cooking, laundry and stuff like motherhood stuff. and boys dont need to do that and they can do things like tough things. My family thinks I can't handle tough things like hiking and man stuff lah.

      hey girlie. you have a brain and arms that can build muscle! there's nothing 'un-girly' about being a carpenter and doing hard physical labour (not that cooking or being a mother isn't very taxing too).

    I truly wish my Australian father had taught me carpentry skills - I could have had a great career and taught my children as well. It was a man's world in the 60's and 70's. Don't just be good at it - I encourage you to be fantastic at it and then teach other women as well. My very best to you - I'd love to learn to weld too! and.....I'm in my early 60's.

    Since childhood, I always see my dad creating different wooden furnitures all by himself. Since then, I had this idea that I want to try woodworking, but the idea of handling the heavy equipments intimidate me. I'm small and I have a scoliosis, so woodworking felt like its the worse choice 😅😅. But after watching this vid, I felt inspired. 💕💕

    I feel like carpentry is actually a feminine field which is male-dominated by mistake. Who is more into interior design and arts and craft? Women. I can spend all day sitting and looking at coffee tables and drawers and credenzas and chaise long ... so naturally, I also want to make them. Yh, they can be heavy but a man alone also struggles to move a couch or a wardrobe - that is usually a 2 man job. Men need heavy machinery, like forklifts, to move heavy wood. This woman in the video just has poor equipment, I mean... she doesn't even have a sanding machine, she is doing it by hand loool. Men use machines and gloves but when a woman gets a cut from lack of knowledge (cause we aren't socialised to embrace heavy machinery) then people use it as an excuse to say. "see? man's job". No. No it's not.

    • @kambruno

      Not sure about that , carpentery is been done for centuries and without machinery. Agricolture as is been done for century and because accessible, there are women working in the field under the sun doing the heavy job but not the heavy lifting. Women are less strong the man physically so in a job where muscle are needed, man is more appropriate. who say contrary probably has never touch an hammer

    I was in carpentry for a year and there was literally nothing too heavy for me to move. We made furniture. Nothing really weighs more than 60 pounds, you want another person to help move shit like finished tables anyway

    • @newleft2254
      @newleft2254 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even if there is heavy furniture to move, say a wardrobe or couch, it's not like a single man can move that lol usually, men carry these things with other men. Women can do the same - they might need an extra person but that hardly makes them incompetent.

    It is inspiring that the steoretyping among women and the things most people said they can't do is slowly fading away as we enters a newer era. You, miss, is one good example of that, and the rest of the women out there who is just starting and loving it. I fell in love with wood working as well, starting with designing my own furniture, and mostly on carving, a hobby I accidentally found on my days mourning over my loss of passion with writing. It's a wonderful mechanism, I think; being able to create something from things (woods, in particular) normal people takes for granted.
    Love from Philippines!

    Honestly, I don't know where to ask this but what do you do as a female when you have your period? When doing intense carpentry (outside in the weather, whether it's cold or hot) or any other trade that can be intense, how do you manage all of that without the access of a standard everyday bathroom like the ones we have at home? How would you work without the worry of leaks and what not on the job when you have no access to use the bathroom and have pad/tampons on hand?
