    The number one worst ports coop design... Joel salatin started this basic idea and there are way more negatives then positives. John suscivich has a far superior design. Its too hard to harvest them with low roof, its too hard to get in them to get dead ones, you can't see them when your moving it so you will at some point run some over

    • @Melike1hit
      @Melike1hit ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Looks like a solid design that anyone can make, that will not break the bank. Can easily take the lid off to reach them, and both designs can cause running over. We made ours liked this with wood and bird netting instead of pvc and metal

      This isn't Joel's design...and if you wanna move around a 800lb mobile coop twice per day...be my guest. Sorry...but I've got a neighbor who keeps building these giant monstrosities and he can't move them without an ATV/UTV or tractor. It's too darn heavy my freind...and it's a gaint sail if you build it out of lighter material. I think they are really cool looking....but I don't think they're the best option. I'll do a comparison vid soon. Now....Joel's tractors are heavier than mine also....about 2 times the weight. Mine is so light that you can lift it with one hand and pick out a dead chick if needed. I also don't deserve to be put down my friend.....this is how I've raised my meat birds for nearly 5 years and it's worked great. Don't knock it until you try it...this isn't joel's design...this is my take on joel's design and it works great.....when a 120 lb woman can move it with one hand...that speaks volumes

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      exactly....doesn't take a rocket scientist to build a little sliding coop....this fella has clearly never moved a Suscivich coop by him/herself....they are way way too heavy!

    yeah, DNR officer guy told me people do the fill, or chop, or build *regs, get caught and pay the fine. I was hot to trot about your pvc meat tractor, once. Really excited with my Dad. I planned on using old well drill pipes (too thick). But then I started egg layers, and found out
    I'm not the sort. City boy. It's really cool Josh.

    Yep, I'm doing this. Not only raising meat birds and egg layers, but growing half their food. All on an 80x125. Cow peas, cover drops including daikon radish, vetch, clover, oats, barley, sunflower and more. I live in the subs and we have a 4 chicken limit. I have 30 including 10 meat birds. These 'laws' or 'city ordinances' are unlawful because they are unconstitutional. Most of the time it's not a neighbor behind them, it's a lobby for grocery stores. Listen for dogs in your neighborhood at all hours and ask yourself why they aren't banned, but roosters are.

    Praying Mantis Nest, or cocoon, anyway it's where they lay their eggs. Is that Schedule 40 PVC pipe or drainage pipe? Wondering what pulling it on the gravel does to the bottom side? If it's wearing any, I guess a pan could take another pipe, split it, and make runners out of it.

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer

      takes about 4-7 months for hens to start laying. Broilers are processed at 8-12 weeks of age and have a tough time surviving much past 14 weeks because they grow so large

    Isn't the cost of the PVC more than cost of wood? I realize that there are two different types of PVC but at my local rural King it was pretty expensive

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  ปีที่แล้ว

      go to lowes...the PVC wont rot, rust or fall apart...you are buying a lightweight mobile coop that's easy to move...v/s a wooden heavy structure that will fall apart in 3 seasons my friend

I assure you this coop is open on all sides, gets a nice breeze and comparing the height of a chicken to the height of a human....this would be a barn with a 20 ft roof...it's for shade, and it doesn't produce heat.
