Thanks for the nice comment William. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
I was mixed about the look when I first saw it, but after your explanation of how the new owners were treating yall and operating, that more than makes up for it. Gotta consider it a blessing to be in that situation.
I also am mixed about the look 2xrpm. But your right in what you said. They are keeping us working steady and putting untold millions into the whole operation, plus giving a ton of money to local charities and organizations. Thanks so much for visiting with us today my friend.
In today's world I'm ecstatic that this employer considers the needs of the workers. When I hired out with the EL it was a family oriented railroad. I've seen my share of slow work. The owners saw fit to incorporate the Cumberland Mine banner. It's also thoughtful that the new owners kept the payroll going along with over time. Overtime was always welcome. We have a manufacturing facility in Long Valley, NJ that still gives the workers turkeys and bonuses, Frazier Steel. In turn the workers are a cohesive group of loyal employees and hard workers. I'm sure that your fellow workers are as enthusiastic as you are. Great job, Dave.
Thanks Gary for the very nice comment. it's good when a company takes care of their employees. New owners are a very refreshing change from the last company who wouldn't spend any money if not absolutely needed. These guys are investing millions and millions in capital improvements plus giving a lot of money to local organizations and charities. Appreciate your taking the time to watch and write in my friend.
I think the new paint is nice but whats more important is them treating you well. They are spending money in a way to try and positively affect you guys. Wich i think is very important
Thanks for the nice comment CSX Railfan. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
Dang Dave now thats a shed. Looks great, heat and all.. guess I need to railfan the new shed and logo, my next video will be out dated.. thanks for taking the time to get the build sequence for us...
Guess that means another trip to visit with me! Awesome! Had over an hour of footage on the building stages and had to distill it all down to a watchable length. Always great to have you watch and write in my good friend.
I don't hate the new logo. The important thing is that they are treating you guys well. And it doesn't hurt that they're offering you guys what I call carte blanche overtime. A company I worked for about 10 years ago offered that up to us and I logged ~350 hours in September of that year, lol. Those were a few nice paychecks. Good 'ol 3098 sure is sounding good!
Thanks for the nice comment I Saw It Online. Yes the new owners are treating us well and I could work 7 days a week if I wanted. They need and want people to come to work. They are spending millions upon millions in capital improvements along with generous donations to local organizations and charities. A very refreshing change from our last owners. Really appreciate your stopping by and watching my friend.
Hey Dave !! Watched another channel where they put up a pole barn & ALL the poles were creosoted to 1 ft above the ground level to stop them from rotting of ??? 🤔🤔 Good knowing that the ""NEW"" owners are concerned about keeping things running smoothly in these times !! 🙃😉🤠😎😮👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks K B for the really nice comment. Those poles were pressure treated the entire length of them. They bought them at the peak of lumber prices at $350 a piece!!! Wow Glad I wasn't paying for them. These new owners are honestly trying to make things right from the mess the last owners left us. Lot's of set backs along the way but they are committed to making this a stellar operation, which is such a welcome relief for us after the last owners filed bankruptcy and literally put no money back into this mine because they knew they were getting out. After the bankruptcy my track budget got cut 25%, now it's the attitude, if it needs done, then do it, we'll find the money. What a relief. This is a good place to work again.
Great video Dave! I always said in my union days, "if all you have to complain about is the look of something, then you have it pretty dang good and don't eleven know know it." It's new, it'll grow on you. Change is difficult for some, exciting for others. I'm so happy to hear the new owners treat you well because I sure been on the other side if it. They could of shut you down, filed something, then restarted with all new employees, but they didn't. Thankfully . Work safe Dave!
Thanks Dennis for the great comment. You are so right in everything you said. We've been thru many new ownerships here over the years, this one is turning out to be a very refreshing change from the past. You will like this: in our last contract they agreed that all coal mined out of our portal will forever be union mined and processed as long as this company owns us. Can't remember if I ever told you this or not, but we are represented by United Mine Workers of America. Always a pleasure to have you show up and write in my friend. PS: we'll do great here as long as we don't buy any used PC locos.... LOL LOL
So happy that the new owners are treating you right. So many times it does not go that way. So I am ok with new logo. Being they treat you right they have my approval. You would never know the build was over so much time. Looked like they built it overnight. Amazing they use tin now. My big barn built in the 50’a is heavy gauge zinc costed steel. Not like todays build. Still looks good. Hanks for sharing.
its just 22ga painted steel most likely galvaneel so the paint can be applied/baked on etc trust me I know as I spent my career in the Sheet Metal Union, and have installed a fair amount of Architectural Siding/Roofing Jobs similar to this.
Thank you Beverly. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
If they are consistently keeping all of you working that's good! The engines still say Cumberland Mine so there shouldn't be any complaints about the new wraps.
Yes it is a good thing Jeff. So much a big improvement over our last company who had filed bankruptcy and there was no money, nothing spent on capital improvements. These new owners are committed to making this a stellar operation and investing millions upon millions in capital improvements. This is once again a good place to work, it was rough after bankruptcy but the future is looking bright. Thanks so much my friend for the very nice comment and for watching.
Thanks Jason for the kind comment. Such a relief now from what we went thru in the past with our old owners filing bankruptcy, there was no money. My track budget got cut 25%! These new guys are sinking millions upon millions into the operation. 2 guys, no corporate board to pay huge salaries to and no stock holders to please! You understand exactly what I'm saying about that. Thanks so much my good friend for visiting with us tonight
Thanks for the nice comment Reginald. Yes sir it is good we are working and working steady and the owners are spending millions of dollars on capital improvements all over the mine. Very refreshing to have happen here. Thanks so much my friend for watching and writing in today.
I am glad that they are treating you well. I was born in 1971. I know a couple of those locomotives are slightly older than I am. I am surprised they wrapped them in plastic and not given those old fellers a brand new paint job. A couple of questions. Why didn't they fix the exterior rust? And second, while building a new garage, why didn't they pave it? Just add the concrete into the finished product.
Thanks for the nice comment Rev. Kirk. They are treating us very well so no complaints, much better than the last company that owned us. They have spent major dollars on getting a professional loco mechanic in here to fix mechanical problems on all 3 locos, so while the rust is not nice to look at, they are running much better now. The big shop has a concrete floor, but it took years to get that floor completely finished, so who knows they may also over time do the storage barn floor also. We shall see.
I really like the new look on the SD's. The cab detail showing the assignment of the engines is really a nice touch. Engine shed looks great, too. Always good to see improvements for the mechanical department. Another very enjoyable and educational video. Best wishes for continued success with the mining operation and the railroad. I'm sure we will be seeing some model SD's showing up in the near future with the new paint scheme.
Thank you so much HighSierra49er for the very nice comment. So glad you are enjoying the videos. That would be pretty cool to see a model made with this wrap on it. These new owners are spending untold millions upon millions on capital improvements here, a very welcome relief from our last company. Appreciate your taking the time to watch and write in my friend.
Thanks for the nice comment Brian. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
I love the new looks, could use a little more touching up. I like the new loco shed, I think they should put some maitenance equipment in the shed and put up a sign what says "Cumberland Locomotive works"
Thank you Arkay for the very kind comment. Yep for sure #1 could use some body work on it, but they are spending a good bit of money on it mechanically. Told you in the video about them working on the valves, they just replaced every single valve with new on the air system and the operators are very pleased with how it is responding now. Appreciate so much your watching and writing in tonight my friend.
Yep, someone finally figured out that if I moved it inside the shed, there wouldn't be room for the loco in there also. Didn't hurt my feelings at all. Really appreciate your stopping by and taking in today's show my friend.
Sure would be nice to see tamper and cribber repainted, but don't hold your breathe. One very positive thing Old Coastie is they have contracted with some professional loco mechanics who really know what they are doing. They are making major improvements to all 3 locos, a very welcome relief as our last company left loco maintenance go to the dogs. Thanks so much my friend for stopping by and watching today.
Well thanks Donnie, guess when I can buy the locos, that will be the new wrap.... LOL Actually at the cost of these old locos I probably could buy one, they aren't in much demand anymore so are priced fairly cheap. Probably couldn't afford the transportation costs tho! Appreciate your tuning in and watching the show tonight my friend.
They finally figured out if I moved the stop, there would not be enough room inside shed for loco too. Duh.... Thanks so much Christopher for watching and writing in my friend.
Thank you very much Frank for the nice comment. Very glad to hear a fellow railroader like you is enjoying. Appreciate your visiting with us today my friend.
Always a bit of stress when under new management, but the fact that they kept you guys working and did site improvements means they want to succeed. Enjoy the new ride!
Thank you Marco for the very nice comment. New owners have spent several hundred thousand dollars on loco and track maintenance this past year and a half. Much needed improvements from the way things used to be. It is very refreshing and encouraging. All the train operators are much happier now, as well as I am. Plus they are spending a good bit of money on public relations giving to local charities and community projects here. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and write in today my friend.
I think it looks good. Change can be unsettling. However, I think it’s a good sign they are putting some money into the facilities and want the name displayed on the locomotives.
Thanks for the nice comment Bill and you are so right. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
I don't mind the new branding on the locomotives. But it is great to see the mine invest in itself and great to hear that the company is taking care of it's employees. We need more places like that!
Thanks Matt. New owners are spending millions upon millions in capital improvements all over the mine. And they are investing heavily into local organizations and charities. They have spend several hundred thousand dollars in the pas year on track maintenance and loco maintenance. A very welcome relief from our last company. They are committed to making this mine a stellar operation it once was. Appreciate your watching the video and writing in my friend.
My engineer sir. Video is beautifull.. for.. introducing of the railway new construction site.. Thankyou very much for introducing this good video. ❤️🧡💛💚
Your right Billblom, they've sunk untold millions already into the whole operation. A very welcome relief from our last company did. Thanks so much my friend for visiting with us today.
So this means I have to create a new livery option for the locomotives I made for the Minecraft Immersive Railroading resource pack addon I made a while back.
LOL, I guess so. But with your creative skills I'm sure you can do it. At least after this video your the first to see the new look, it just happened last week they put the wrap on. Always great when you visit with us my friend.
Hi Mr Dave nice video interesting Loco. It's nice that you all are still working we need hard working people on our rails you all do such important work. And it's nice you have good bosses. Thumbs up on the video
Thank you Barbara for the very nice comment.
With the new capital investment, what are the chances of a rotary dumper? Sounds like extra time and effort and cost goes into maintenance because of fines in the track. David
Zero David. At least for now, who knows what the future will bring. They have gone and looked at some fairly new longitudinal dump cars which are somewhere down south. They even have gotten quotes on getting them here. But mine has had a ton of problems this spring and summer and into fall and production is way down, so purchase of that fleet of cars has been put on the back burner for now. I will certainly keep you posted if and when they do show up tho. Thanks so much for watching today my friend.
Great video Dave! Something more in my wheelhouse today, a post frame locomotive shed! Some of the construction methods are a bit sketchy, but it should work. It's great that they are investing money at all and not 'consolidating' things 😊
Every day I watched them I was thinking of your videos and how you were building and I would say in my mind, but not to them, wish they had watched your videos! I would think to myself, that's not the way Planet Mojo would have done it!! But in all fairness, the contract builders were just putting it together the way the plans were that were given to them and they had no choice to do anything other than that way. We here were concerned about the wood structure. We all thought it should have been steel framing like the big shop is and like my tamper barn is. Another commenter said wood framing was not allowed in UK for purposes like this because of the fire hazards. But anyway, they did this at the peak of lumber prices. 1 of those pressure treated posts was $350! Unbelievable.
Hi Dave. Love the new look on the locomotives. I know what it's like to have the company you work for sold as the company I work for has been sold twice. And yes I am a 35 year employee. Glad the new owners are treating everyone well. Keep up the great work and keepem on the rails.
Thanks for the very nice comment Gary. You and me are becoming a rarity anymore working for the same place that long. I'm sure you have a lot of stories you could share from your history there. Really appreciate your visiting with us today my friend.
I get why they didn't paint them but that blue is looking tired and look like they are due to a rebuild. Good to hear the new owners are treating you well.
I hear you on the fading, also #1 needs some body work done on it, but one thing I didn't mention is that they have contracted with a professional loco mechanic service and they are doing major and much needed mechanical repairs. The air system on all 3 locos has had almost every major valve replaced along with a lot more. Thanks so much my friend for stopping by and watching the show today.
Hi Dave. I’m glad the new owners are treating you well. The most important thing is you’re still working. I like the new look on the locomotives, and the new engine house. I wouldn’t have driven across the tracks with a moving train in the area. I would have just waited till I was informed that it was clear to cross. Great video!!
Thanks Johnathan. Yes they are, have spent several hundred thousand dollars on track maintenance in the past year and a half, much needed and what a big difference in the track from what it used to be. Plus they have spent much needed money on loco maintenance. It's really refreshing to see after this past company we had that let things go to pot. Thanks so much my friend for watching and writing in today.
Thats great the locomotive has a new bat cave. As far as that logo goes... As long as they treat you guys good and let you film, I have no problem with the logo. I do think however since they added the new logo that the rest of the engine should be painted. And maybe add some mag rims. Custom stereo. Maybe some hydraulics so the engine can raise and lower itself like lowriders do. Maybe customize the motor. Add some chrome. And cool lighting to make it look like its floating above the ground. 😁😂🤣😜🤪😝
I like your ideas David, really set that baby out to show off. We'd have railfans from all over the world appearing to photo that. Company is treating us so much better than the last one we had, a very welcome relief. Always great to have you visit with me my friend. Thanks.
Great vid Dave ... Like the paint scheme ... I went thru many company changes in my 40 yrs. at the plants in Oak Ridge , Tn ... Luckily they were all good to work for ... So good luck !!!
Thank you Eddy. We've had many company changes over the years, guess a lot of that has to do with Fed tax laws that only allow depreciation for what used to be 7 years, now is 5 years then depreciation is off the books and they have to start claiming a profit. Glad to hear you had good companies to work for. This last company we had was pretty decent until they filed bankruptcy then things went down hill. These 2 new owners are investing millions upon millions into this operation and are now a good company to work for that treats the employees right I'm happy to say.
That is #1 our SD 38-2 at the opening of the video. Bout the only difference between a GP and AD is on the SD it has the 3 axle trucks where the GP has 2.
That's awesome my company was bought out couple years ago they wasn't as nice lost alot of good employees and lost all seniority with them but I stayed because if I went somewhere else I'd start all over again
We've had new owners many times also Jim. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
I hope the company is still treating you guys well, both in the mine and on the railroad. The YT algorithm brought this one forward for me today (2/25/2023) and I've been watching the barn addition construction with interest. "Deer in the headlights" look ... I'm familiar with it, it seems to be universal to both the Navy and civilian business as the reaction you get when you point out something simple or obvious that should have been included in the prior planning. 😀 It's good that you can get at least two of the three "horses" indoors and out of the weather for storage and preventive maintenance, especially during the winter months.
Yes indeed they are Robert, these are some very good people to work for. We very much appreciate your taking the time to visit with us and write in my friend.
Change is not always easy but just part of the process I guess. I am 5 years retired and hardly recognize my old company. You are doing great and should be very proud of the work done and care to the rails, good stewardship. Looking forward to another installment in the railroad never ending story. Cheers!
Thank you John for the very nice comment.
We've had new owners many times in the past, always change involved but this time a lot of good positive changes are happening. They've spent several hundred thousand on track maintenance alone in the past year and a half, much needed and what a big difference in the track now from what it used to be. Don't know if you got my last reply or not, but if you can send me your email I will get in touch so we can set up a time for you to visit.
Hey Dave looking good, if I was paying enough attention the new barn is for the loco during cold months so they can shut down and keep the old girl warm during off hours. with the price of diesel and extra idle hours building is cheap I'm guessing. good to hear that the new owners are treating you guys good. take care my friend looking for the next one. I'll shoot you an email when things slow down been so busy lately hard to remember what day it is.
Thanks Kenn for the very nice comment. You are very right. They built this building to keep the third loco in so they can shut it off and save on fuel costs from having it idle all winter. We get diesel fuel here for about $3.50 gallon. I think we get a small discount because we buy fuel at a whole tanker truck at a time. With fuel prices going up, this building may pay for itself sooner than later. Home heating oil is now $5! Unreal. Always great to have you visit with me my good friend.
Hey, Dave! Great video. I've been doing video work for about 15 years now. That weird pattern on the roll up door is called a moire pattern. Any time you have alternating lines of darker and lighter areas close together, the camera will pick that up as a moire pattern when either the object with the pattern or the camera itself moves. It can happen on any surface or material with alternating light and dark lines that are close together and there's not much you can do about it! Ha! Great video anyway
Moire patterns are a nuisance in photogray and video, but they actually have many scientific and commercial uses. Everything from ship navigation to strain gauges to precise measuring and combating counterfeiting!
Thanks Will for the info, had never heard of that. When I taped it that didn't show up, but in my editing software it was almost double the wavy from what the final video turned out to show. Will try to be on the alert in the future not to tape into anything like that. Really appreciate your watching and writing in my friend.
@@ccrx6700 yep! The reason the final version was “better” than the original in the program is because of how the program spits it out. When you get that final version, it’s been compressed some for upload so some of that wiggly information is lost, which is good in this case. Video can be fickle! Keep doing what you’re doing!
@@willb.383 Thanks Will. confession: I am pretty ignorant of how editing software works. I really appreciate your info and also anything you would in the future like to share with me about stuff like that. I have no one to teach me on this stuff so it's a fly by the seat of your pants kind of deal. I use a program called Wondershare and it took me many, many hours just trying to figure out how to do basic stuff. I'm a railroader not anything near a professional video grapher. So do need all the help I can get in this editing stuff.
@@ccrx6700 well hey! That’s saying something because your videos are great for not knowing how the controls work! I bet the heavy machinery listens to you a little better than the software! Anything I can help with I’ll send your way. I’ve been doing this stuff since I was 15 and now at 32 it’s like breathing but even then some things can be a pickle. 👍🏻
People will never agree on paint, logos, etc. But I think that we can all agree on the need for job respect, rewards, safety, and stability. It is great that the new owners arre treating you all right!
Excellent words Alan. Could not have said it better. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
A great video and very good news about the new owners. I have learned more about “Railroadin” from your videos than any other sites on TH-cam and you make your videos very enjoyable. Thank You Sir.
Thank you so much Alan for your very nice comment. So glad you are enjoying. We really appreciate all your great support of the channel and kind words my friend.
Sd-38/40 we’re hands down best equipment ever produced. Ton for ton they owe us nothing in2022. There on the radar of the gg1 for dependability. I’m glad to see there running for you guys. Keep up the good work!
They were built rugged and most engineers I've talked with prefer to run the older EMD's rather than any new GE. We have contracted with some professional loco mechanics and they have done a remarkable job at keeping these old guys running and running well. Really appreciate your stopping by and taking in the video today my good man.
Nice video Dave - new name on the engines, it matches the pay cheques lol. For the owners, they own a mine and a railway - show it off if you can. The engine shed - did they put ventilation in there for the startups, might be a little dense with exhaust fumes until she moves out of the shed. Cheers and stay safe. Pete
Thanks wtfbuddy1 for the nice comment. You do bring up an excellent point and no they did not. On the big shop at the roof peak we can open the vents to eliminate smoke and as you know there can be quite a bit on start up. In that storage barn you'll get smoked out quick. But opening both the side and back garage doors will be a help some there. This is a good place to work. Really appreciate your joining in with us tonight my friend.
Christmas is coming Kevin and and I can't help but imagine a new train set is on their wish list.... LOL No they changed their mind again and decided not to move the stop which made me very happy. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and write in today my friend.
I like the color and the decals also they have kept North Cumberland Mines along with the new name.sometimes change can be hard to take. There can be mixed feelings but the new owners are treating all of you very well. Your explanation is good news you get all the extra days you want. They are having issues with the mine and are working to fix them. I am happy all have still have jobs. Thank you for showing us the new building to park the locamotive in. Love your channel and content. Always waiting for the next video. ❤🇨🇦
Thank you Ray for the very nice comment. New owners have spent several hundred thousand dollars on loco and track maintenance this past year and a half. I do like the new Corporate look. Very clean and modern looking. Nice to have a warm, cozy spot to curl up next the girls while they sleep. Great video!
I'm glad good things are happening there for the company and the community. I hope prosperity continues for all involved for many years and generations to come. Thanks, Dave.
Thanks Scotty for the awesome comment. Demand for coal is tremendous right now. Appreciate your watching and writing in. Wondering if you saw the horrible accident at Strasburg yesterday? Goes along with the bull dozer and tank stories we've talked about. This is very sad occurence: th-cam.com/video/FaFRJzaNJ2E/w-d-xo.html
@@ccrx6700 Yes Dave, I had seen the video of the 475 getting her nose punched in. I'm really happy no one was hurt, but just sad that it even happened to start with. Fixable for sure, but I just wish a few key folks had been more observant so that it wouldn't have happened at all. Of course, humans are prone to making mistakes. Happy weekend to you, Dave! I just got the notification of your newest video. I'll be tuning-in for some of that great Cass action later this evening. Thanks buddy!
They are hoping to save on fuel costs Raymond by not needing to keep a third loco running when it's not in revenue service. With fuel prices going way up, the building may pay for itself sooner than later. Home heating oil here is now $5. I think we buy our diesel fuel for the locos at around $3.50. Very glad you are enjoying the videos Big Mack's Trucks. We do appreciate all your wonderful support of the channel my friend. I like the old better myself, but what would be really, really cool is if they would consider painting #1 in it's original US Steel colors, it could be their heritage unit. But doubt if anyone will take my suggestion seriously on that.
The smooth running of the entire operation, makes such a great difference in everyone’s everyday moral , when you can do your daily tasks only once over fighting to complete it multiple times, trains run so much better over stable track, with a good base , you will not have derailments , the efficiency, productivity, and attitude all go up! people will enjoy coming into work knowing that they will be less stress along with seeing the difference that they make each and every day. Dave hope you have a wonderful day, enjoy the positive difference you make on everyone you touch in your days, or in your videos. barry
Excellent comment Barry and you are so right in your points. What a refreshing change these new owners have brought us over the last company. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and write in my friend.
Your very welcome Robin. They built the new barn in hopes to be able to keep a third loco that usually is not in revenue service during the winter, thus saving on fuel costs from needing to have it idle all winter. Diesel fuel here now is about $3.50 a gallon for off road, so it may pay for itself sooner than later. Always great to have you visit with me my friend.
Your absolutely right in that Jason. On the big shop can open ventilation doors on top of the roof to let the smoke out, but not in there, it will get smoked up quick on a start up. And as you know there can be quite a bit of smoke on starting sometimes. Thanks so much my friend for watching tonight.
There will always be anxious moments when a firm is sold but at least when someone is making a long-term investment it's a sign of stability. The absolute worst is when some firms just buy it to squeeze out the last dollars of the product then sell off the equipment and perhaps the property and the workers are just left high and dry. Since this is the coal mining industry this at least is good for the Long Haul. So with the rebranding hopefully we can use the adage. The Quality Goes In Before The Name Goes On. Carry on Dave!
Thanks Paul for the exceptionally nice comment. You are so right on accounts you touched on. New owners are a very refreshing change from the last company who wouldn't spend any money if not absolutely needed. These guys are investing millions and millions in capital improvements plus giving a lot of money to local organizations and charities. Appreciate your taking the time to watch and write in my friend.
Thank you Russell for the very nice comment. New owners have spent several hundred thousand dollars on loco and track maintenance this past year and a half. Other than the fact it looks like they spray canned the locos, it looks good, plus a new bldg to house the loco in. I hope the new owners reaiize what a top notch crew they have.l
Thank you Franzkoviakalak for the very nice comment. So glad to have you join in with us tonight and watch my friend. In high school my best friend's name was Franz. He later actually worked here at the mine under ground, at outside shop and at the harbor. He has since retired. A very hard worker that man was.
Darn it, I have no words to describe how I feel about the changes. It will always be the CMRR to me. Thank you for taking the time to share your hard work.
Thanks for writing in Frank, we all have mixed feelings here about the wrap. However, the new owners do treat us well and are spending millions upon millions of dollars in much needed capital improvements at the mine. They have spent several hundred thousand dollars on track maintenance here in the past year and a half, and they have brought in professional loco mechanics who really know what they are doing and made major improvements to the locos air and mechanical systems. It will always be CMRR for me also my friend.
Dave, looks great 👍. New logo, New building 😀 👍 but one thing, 3 engines 2 inside nice and warm. I think you might have sibling rivalry 🤔 this winter. Was there room past the stop to accommodate the length of another engine? Maybe if the stop wasn't there, the building might of grew a few more feet 🤔. Have fun, stay safe my friend, Richard Bause
Nobody knows why they didn't just make the barn longer Richard. However they did finally figure out if I had moved the stop there wouldn't be room in the barn for the loco.... Duh. Thanks so much my friend for taking the time to watch and write in today.
@@ccrx6700 Dave, the Naugatuck RR in Danbury, Connecticut built their engine house to accommodate 2 cars on 1 track, only to realize after construction that they needed another 30 feet to do a truck roll out and have room for the forklift to get by. Buying a new tape measure before starting construction 🚧 is good advice.
Thanks David. New owners are spending millions upon millions in capital improvements all over the mine. And they are investing heavily into local organizations and charities. They have spend several hundred thousand dollars in the pas year on track maintenance and loco maintenance. A very welcome relief from our last company. You and your fellow workers do incredible work. I have to mention how professional you all are as well. The new owners can't help but notice this and so they likely realize how good a deal they made taking ownership! I think the new logo and all is fine and, who doesn't like an engine in fresh paint? A nice storage shed indeed. It would be interesting to calculate how long it would take to warm up the engine from say 20 F to 60 F in that building based on the BTUs the heater(s) put out. That is a big hunk of steel!
Thank you so much Brian for the exceptionally nice comment. We really appreciate all your great support of the channel and comments you send in my friend. New owners are a whole lot better than the last company. These guys are spending millions upon millions in capital improvements along with a lot of money given to local organizations and charities.
Looks good! I think it's a nice clean look! As long as the new owners are treating you guys well, that's all that's important. You don't often see that today! Enjoy the new look!
Thanks for the nice comment Chuck. These guys are a bright spot from what we had in the last company. They are spending untold millions on the operation and giving away a lot of money to local charity and organizations. Really appreciate your dropping by and taking in the show today my friend.
Neat building, that should help the engine not turn into a big iceberg. The new look looks fine to me! They could paint it pink as far as I'm concerned... in fact, many job sites run pink construction equipment and it's a lot better than some other designs people could come up with, haha.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for taking the time to watch and write in with the kind comment my friend. it's really refreshing to see the new owners spending so many millions on capital improvements all over the mine, huge change from the last owners we had.
Nice to see there expanding and not doing what a few places are doing handing out pink slip especially with them trying to get rid of coal as a fuel source which is stupid in my opt

Thanks Jeff, I'm pretty happy here. Good company to work for and a nice variety of different jobs I get involved with. Really appreciate your visiting with us today and writing in my friend.
That eerie wavy look I did not see when I taped it Paul. When i edited the video it was like, wow how did that happen. Always appreciate your visiting with me and writing in my friend.
@@ccrx6700 the wavy lines were probably caused by the thin slats on the door not matching the camera speed, ive seen similar oddities on others' videos. But......i think the Ghostbusters only operated in Chicago.
Improve morale: check Improve working conditions: check It's a win in my book. The owners benefit from higher productivity, and the employees benefit from the stability.
You pretty much got the formula for a successful business down pat there. Our new owners are trying to do both. A very refreshing change from out last company. We really appreciate your tuning in and watching the video today my good man.
This is a very exciting development, the locomotives are kept in immaculate condition. It is great that the workers are being treated well and that there is plenty of work for them. The investment in keeping a locomotive under cover is a good one as it is less likely to deteriorate. Thank you so very much for this excellent video presentation which is much appreciated by the people.

@@ccrx6700 Always, your always very informative on your home movies. Glad your people are being treated well, that is important in the workplace. Thank you Dave keep up the great work.
It certainly is ocsrc. Before they built the big shop in the 1990's the guys had to work out in the weather on the cars and locos. What a major improvement building that big shop was.
Like others have said, it's great the new owners are treating you guys well, that's always important. I share your concerns about that flat roof; pray for light snow fall! Those locomotives sound healthy, and I could listen to them all day. Nice logo, I believe. hope you and yours are well, Dave . Take care!
Thank you so much Patrick for the really nice comment. They have contracted with some professional loco mechanics are they have done a remarkable job at keeping these old locos running. New owners are spending millions on capital improvements along with aggressively supporting local organizations and charities. A very refreshing change from our former owners. Really appreciate your watching and writing in today my friend.
Nothing better than knowing new owners are not afraid to spend money on new paint jobs on locos & build a new loco storage shed, was abit suprised that they used timber for framing, here in Australia that all been steel construction.
Thanks Alf for the nice comment. We were all a bit concerned here about the wood framing. Big shop and my tamper barn is all steel framing. But it is what it is now. Someone from the UK also wrote in about their not being allowed to use wood for applications like this. Thanks so much my friend for stopping by and taking in the video today.
Well I for one like the new livery, it looks sharp and they have kept the mines name. It is also grand that the employers seem to appreciate what you all do and are prepared to invest in people and plant. Not all employers are bad. 👍
Thank you so much Bob for the very kind comment. The new owners are spending millions upon millions in capital improvements here and they are giving tons of money away to local organizations and charities. A big change from our last owners. We do appreciate your dropping by and taking in the video today my friend.
Well I like the new look but I am prejudiced as I like blue for a start! So good to hear of company owners who are good to their staff. Hats off to them.
Our original US Steel loco was US Steel blue so it's good that they at least kept a blue shade color. Our new owners are trying to keep workers happy, what a different way of doing things in this day and age Bill. Thank you so much for watching and writing in my friend.
Yes it is Alphonso. New owners are spending untold millions upon millions in capital improvements, a very welcome sight from our last company. Really appreciate your watching the video today my good man.
Thanks Wilbur for the kind words. Someone finally figured out by moving that stop inside, there wouldn't be room for the loco too. Did not hurt my feelings at all. Am curious why they didn't build the shop longer, but no one seems to know that. Really appreciate your visiting with me today my friend.
The most important thing is that you guys are being treated well by the new owners! Ya'll do a thankless job!!

I was mixed about the look when I first saw it, but after your explanation of how the new owners were treating yall and operating, that more than makes up for it. Gotta consider it a blessing to be in that situation.
I also am mixed about the look 2xrpm. But your right in
what you said. They are keeping us working steady and
putting untold millions into the whole operation, plus
giving a ton of money to local charities and organizations.
New owners are a very refreshing
change from the last company who wouldn't spend any money
if not absolutely needed. These guys are investing millions and
millions in capital improvements plus giving a lot of money
to local organizations and charities. Appreciate your taking the
time to watch and write in my friend.
As long as the new company keeps you working and treats you well, don't worry about the logos. You guys are the railroad!
Very well said ozzy6900. Thanks so much for writing in and

I think the new paint is nice but whats more important is them treating you well. They are spending money in a way to try and positively affect you guys. Wich i think is very important

Those poles were
pressure treated the entire length of them. They bought them
at the peak of lumber prices at $350 a piece!!! Wow Glad I
wasn't paying for them. These new owners are honestly
trying to make things right from the mess the last owners
left us. Lot's of set backs along the way but they are
committed to making this a stellar operation, which is such
a welcome relief for us after the last owners filed bankruptcy
and literally put no money back into this mine because they
knew they were getting out. After the bankruptcy my track
budget got cut 25%, now it's the attitude, if it needs done,
then do it, we'll find the money. What a relief. This is a good
place to work again.
Creosote use was discontinued many years ago here in Australia as it is carcinogenic.
You are so right in everything
you said. We've been thru many new ownerships here over the
years, this one is turning out to be a very refreshing change
from the past. You will like this: in our last contract they
agreed that all coal mined out of our portal will forever
be union mined and processed as long as this company owns
us. Can't remember if I ever told you this or not, but we
are represented by United Mine Workers of America. Always
a pleasure to have you show up and write in my friend.
PS: we'll do great here as long as we don't buy any used PC
locos....
Hanks for sharing.
its just 22ga painted steel most likely galvaneel so the paint can be applied/baked on etc
trust me I know as I spent my career in the Sheet Metal Union, and have installed a fair amount of
Architectural Siding/Roofing Jobs similar to this.

If they are consistently keeping all of you working that's good! The engines still say Cumberland Mine so there shouldn't be any complaints about the new wraps.
Yes it is a good thing Jeff. So much a big improvement over
our last company who had filed bankruptcy and there was
no money, nothing spent on capital improvements. These
new owners are committed to making this a stellar operation

This is once again a good place to work, it was rough after
bankruptcy but the future is looking bright. Thanks so much
my friend for the very nice comment and for watching.
Love the change. Remember this Dave your worse day there with the new owners is probably like a best day on the class ones!!
Thanks Jason for the kind comment. Such a relief now from
what we went thru in the past with our old owners filing
bankruptcy, there was no money. My track budget got cut
25%! These new guys are sinking millions upon millions into

I personally like it.
Somebody needs to model it. 😊

Kirk. They are treating us very
well so no complaints, much better than the last company
that owned us. They have spent major dollars on getting
a professional loco mechanic in here to fix mechanical problems
on all 3 locos, so while the rust is not nice to look at, they are
running much better now. The big shop has a concrete floor,
but it took years to get that floor completely finished, so who
knows they may also over time do the storage barn floor also.

I love the new looks, could use a little more touching up. I like the new loco shed, I think they should put some maitenance equipment in the shed and put up a sign what says "Cumberland Locomotive works"
Thank you Arkay for the very kind comment. Yep for sure #1
could use some body work on it, but they are spending a good
bit of money on it mechanically. Told you in the video about
them working on the valves, they just replaced every single

very pleased with how it is responding now. Appreciate
so much your watching and writing in tonight my friend.

With the new capital investment, what are the chances of a rotary dumper? Sounds like extra time and effort and cost goes into maintenance because of fines in the track.
David
Zero David. At least for now, who knows what the future will
bring. They have gone and looked at some fairly new longitudinal
dump cars which are somewhere down south. They even
have gotten quotes on getting them here. But mine has had
a ton of problems this spring and summer and into fall and
production is way down, so purchase of that fleet of cars
has been put on the back burner for now. I will certainly
keep you posted if and when they do show up tho. Thanks
so much for watching today my friend.
Great video Dave! Something more in my wheelhouse today, a post frame locomotive shed! Some of the construction methods are a bit sketchy, but it should work. It's great that they are investing money at all and not 'consolidating' things 😊
Every day I watched them I was thinking of your videos and
how you were building and I would say in my mind, but not to them,
wish they had watched your videos! I would think to myself, that's not
the way Planet Mojo would have done it!! But in all fairness,
the contract builders were just putting it together the way
the plans were that were given to them and they had
no choice to do anything other than that way.

Yes they are, have spent several hundred thousand dollars on track maintenance in the past year and a half,
much needed and what a big difference in the track from what it
used to be. Plus they have spent much needed money on loco
maintenance. It's really refreshing to see after this past
company we had that let things go to pot. Thanks so much
my friend for watching and writing in today.
😁😂🤣😜🤪😝
Like that Michelin commercial earlier this year!!
I like your ideas David, really set that baby out to show off.
We'd have railfans from all over the world appearing to photo

you visit with me my friend. Thanks.
Great vid Dave ... Like the paint scheme ... I went thru many company changes in my 40 yrs. at the plants in Oak Ridge , Tn ... Luckily they were all good to work for ... So good luck !!!
Thank you Eddy. We've had many company changes over the
years, guess a lot of that has to do with Fed tax laws that
only allow depreciation for what used to be 7 years, now is
5 years then depreciation is off the books and they have
to start claiming a profit. Glad to hear you had good companies
to work for. This last company we had was pretty decent
until they filed bankruptcy then things went down hill. These
2 new owners are investing millions upon millions into this
operation and are now a good company to work for that
treats the employees right I'm happy to say.

That's awesome my company was bought out couple years ago they wasn't as nice lost alot of good employees and lost all seniority with them but I stayed because if I went somewhere else I'd start all over again

It's good that you can get at least two of the three "horses" indoors and out of the weather for storage and preventive maintenance, especially during the winter months.
Yes indeed they are Robert, these are some very good people to
work for. We very much appreciate your taking the time to visit
with us and write in my friend.
Change is not always easy but just part of the process I guess. I am 5 years retired and hardly recognize my old company. You are doing great and should be very proud of the work done and care to the rails, good stewardship. Looking forward to another installment in the railroad never ending story. Cheers!

Change always takes a little getting used to but now there is no mistaking where those locomotives belong when you see photos or videos.
We've had new owners many times in the past, always change
involved but this time a lot of good positive changes are
happening. They've spent several hundred thousand on track
maintenance alone in the past year and a half, much needed
and what a big difference in the track now from what it used
to be. Don't know if you got my last reply or not, but if you

Hey Dave looking good, if I was paying enough attention the new barn is for the loco during cold months so they can shut down
and keep the old girl warm during off hours. with the price of diesel and extra idle hours building is cheap I'm guessing.
good to hear that the new owners are treating you guys good. take care my friend looking for the next one. I'll shoot you an email when things slow down
been so busy lately hard to remember what day it is.
Thanks Kenn for the very nice comment. You are very right.
They built this building to keep the third loco in so they
can shut it off and save on fuel costs from having it idle
all winter. We get diesel fuel here for about $3.50 gallon.
I think we get a small discount because we buy fuel at
a whole tanker truck at a time. With fuel prices going up,
this building may pay for itself sooner than later. Home
heating oil is now $5! Unreal. Always great to have you
visit with me my good friend.
When I taped it
that didn't show up, but in my editing software it was almost
double the wavy from what the final video turned out to show.
Will try to be on the alert in the future not to tape into anything
like that.

Pete

Your absolutely right in that Jason. On the big shop can open

not in there, it will get smoked up quick on a start up. And as
you know there can be quite a bit of smoke on starting sometimes.

Dave, the Naugatuck RR in Danbury, Connecticut built their engine house to accommodate 2 cars on 1 track, only to realize after construction that they
