Simona Halep is now 3-9 in her last 12 tour finals. Halep seems to be the ideal opponent for other players to achieve their 'firsts' in the finals. Wozniacki won her first Slam, Ostapenko won her first Slam (also her first ever title), Bertens won her first Premier (Cincinnati 2018), now Bertens has won her first Premier Mandatory, Elise Mertens won her first 500 level, all against Halep. Halep plays absolutely great until the final but is often afraid to win when playing for the title.Very sad to see this happen again and again , after all the hardwork until the finals.

Fantastisch, Kiki.
No doubt Simona was letting it all hang out in the 2nd set. What a temperament KiKi has. Hit a bad shot or hit a great shot then just move on to the next one. Good match glad some fans showed up to watch.
First of all congratulations to Kiki, she played very well and she deserved every point she got. Second of all, I just wanna say congrats to Simona as well! @TealAlloy well then people at the net would try to get hit in order not to lose the point, i think the rule is fair cause this rarely happens at the baseline, last time i can think of it happening was to wozniacki in miami 2010
Holy cow! What a surprise!!! Halep lost another Final!!!??? That has never happened before, has it??? Seriously, though, Bertens and her sturdy Dutch legs have been carrying her far in the recent era. Simona, as always, is a top competitor but again falls short.

Simona used to be one of my favourite players - I love her fighting spirit - but I lost a bit of respect for her when she refused to speak out about Nastase's behaviour at the Fed Cup. Today, with her graciousness in defeat, she regained a little of that respect
The commentators said Bertens never won a "mandatory tournament" like Madrid. But she won in Cincinnati last year (against Halep also). Wasn 't that a "mandatory" tournament, too?
That’s a premier five tournament, the third highest category after the grand slams and the 4 premier mandatory tournaments (Madrid, Maimi, Indian Wells, Beijing) :)

With much more experience, Simona might have kept the momentum on her side ...... Repeated exchange of service break was an extraneous happening. Sour grape & hindsight (or expectation): wrong footer. As far as today's match is concerned, almost always "to an open space". Could have pushed harder Kiki psychologically, aiming to keep her opponent guessing. To take the net. She may prefer finishing a point from the base line, but must consider its necessity. She's a decent volleyer, but one step further! To hone skill around the net, including positioning, anticipation etc., would surely widen her potential (it's time consuming!). Improvisation. Her strong legs helps her producing extraordinary shots in picking up a drop shot. Her response, however, tends to hard-hitting cross court. She definitely needs good maneuvering shot in dealing with a short ball (i.e., slice shot or drop shot down the line). Her recent success owes her great pick up, instead of using squash shots, but it would not do any harm to add shot for emergency case. A hardest worker as she known, she'll surely try to further development. Let's hope her a good luck!

Maybe there weren't any great rallies/highlights. I didn't watch the final but I know that there were a lot of unforced errors and breaks of serve which doesn't suggest a lot of winners or triumphant rallies. Such is commonplace in women's tennis and perhaps why the stadium was not full of fans. Look at the men's matches throughout the tournament - mostly full. The women's matches, most have been less than half full. I like women's tennis - but these are things I notice.

I like women's tennis - but these are things I notice.
kiki is so gorgoeous
Kiki is gorge! well done!
Osaka gave up after losing first set to Kiki last year WTA Finals, and today Walk-Over again. Arrogant Osaka afraid for our Kiki :)

Well done Kiki and thanks for keep Naomi at the top of the rankings
She will drop from the nr1 I'm sure of that.. hope so, because she does not deserve it the way she's been playing lately.
Jérôme B she’s won the last two slams so she’s deserving of it. Osaka shows up in the big moments if u look at her results. Stick to hating 👍🏽
@@Sajuuk9 Winning back-to-back grand slam and still not deserving....What?
