Haley is not just a singer, she is a Master class vocal technician who with lightning speed and control can switch every vocal expression known to man on and off effortlessly
What the vids are is pretty much just their tour stage show filmed with a single camera. I would assume the artist liberty just comes from actual performing aspect and what works and what doesn’t, it’s fine tuned and tweaked with every performance. Watching Haley’s live performances of Creep are always different everynight.
The singers & Scott work collaboratively on the arrangements. He says that the singers are at their best when they are singing something that really speaks to something they feel or want to say. He also really thinks seriously about the lyrics and what their different interpretation could be when making the arrangements. That's one thing I think people don't realize about PMJ, but one of the things that makes them stand out from other acts whose gimmick is to cover songs in a different genre. One song they did that I think really illustrates arranging to lyrics would be their cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit - it's a brilliant cover, and haven't seen a single person do a reaction to it, sadly. The featured vocalist isn't as well known as some of their other performers. Anyway, as for Haley, she's more than just a singer. She's an artist and a performer. She knows exactly how & when to use all of the tools in her voice box, and her stage presence is off the charts. There are people who are just as capable of singing exactly like her, but they don't know how and when to use the different techniques in ways that actually enhance the performance. I think that's what makes Haley stand out.
"Blackhole Sun" is Haley's lowest viewed PMJ video, with the exception of "Don't Speak", which was just recently recorded. Nonetheless, "Blackhole Sun" is a pretty good cover. As everything Haley did with PMJ is awesome. Meanwhile, the arrangements and the vocals are collaborations. As Haley picked the songs and then collaborated with Scott to come up with an arrangement. However, Haley was one of the few performers that performed with PMJ given that freedom. As Haley, like Scott, is a musical genius. Not to mention that Haley is the performer that put PMJ in the spotlight.
Cool thanks for the info. Not sure why it would be the lowest, but maybe I am biased lol. I enjoy her voice. There are a few artists I have mentioned I could listen to while they sing the phonebook. She is one of them.
@@JTMMTV Well, "Blackhole Sun" used to be the last music video Haley recorded with PMJ until she recorded "Don't Speak" about a year ago. By the way, "Don't Speak" is superb.
If you're not a vocal coach or a singer you can never grasp what Haley does her vocals and why she's considered by many to be the best all around female vocalist
Haley is an old soul. She loves old recordings. As a matter of fact, she has an analog recording studio. She also has recorded a few direct to vinyl songs. It seems to me that Haley makes many decisions on the fly. If you listen to PMJ’s earlier release of Creep with Karen Marie, the rendition is missing the vocal intricacies that makes Haley’s version so special. Thanks for listening to my rant when I commented on your Creep reaction. It’s just a shame this video is the least popular Haley/PMJ collaboration.
You are welcome to rant any time. As long as people are respectful, they are welcome to say anything. Your comment was 100% accurate and without it, I may not have listened to this one for awhile. I always welcome fans of a person or group with recommendations and comments. If I miss something call me on it lol, I welcome it.
Haley is truly one of my fav vocalist's and the child like voice is a play on 1920 Betty Boop style which was very popular for the time. If you want to be trully blown away with both musical arrangement and vocals then this is a must see PMJ's (Aerosmith Cover) "Dream On" ft. Morgan James th-cam.com/video/Yq4KA0mUnC8/w-d-xo.html Morgan is different then Haley but masterful in her own way.
"Blackhole Sun" is Haley's lowest viewed PMJ cover. It's not bad because everything Haley did with PMJ is awesome. Nonetheless, besides "Creep", the best of the best of the best are "Seven Nation Army", "Don't Speak", Oops, I Did It Again", "Habits", and "All About That Bass"

I picture myself now listening ro this. I wasn't alive in 30-40s but I enjoy what they accomplish

That's awesome. I was going to do Dream on today as another bonus but it's pouring here so left early to beat traffic.
TEMPTRESS, GODDESS, SLAYER, no one does it better, H.E.R. #1

Agreed, I am a singer so I get it and wand to see more of her stuff with her range. Her octave skipping runs were pretty cool

Well, of course this is in fact a song about sex, but even if it wasn't, Haley was going to turn it into that.
Just try taking the freedom to interpret away from her. Scott does the arrangements, but letting the artists do what they do is essential to his work.
Nah, with the exception of only "Creep", all of Haley's other PMJ covers were collaborations between Scott and Haley.
Great group remaking songs making them better
Good but not something I'd listen to.
