My mother is 87 years old, she does not speak english and never went to school. One day I was listening this song and she came to me and said: that song is so pretty. No more to tell...
thank you a thousand times, you did it, YOU ARE REALLY THE BEST!!!!! Thanks for this tutorial on one of my favorite Prince songs. Thanks again !!!!!!!!
Thanks Danny ! Incredible work ! This live version is so much more exciting than the studio version. I think you took the 1990 version from the La Coruña concert in Spain. But the most brutal and exciting version is without a doubt the 1990 Tokyo concert version: watching only that video is a full concert on its own. The guitar sound he has there is like an unleashed wild animal being tamed by him...
thanks again. you are brilliant, you deserve much more view and notoriety, at the height of your talent. you are passionate, it shows and feels. thanks to you, I finally cherish the dream of being able to play this guitar solo that I love since the first time I saw it in 1991 so thank you again
Assuming these can't be monetised you really should set up a Patreon. I'd happily contribute a few bucks a month for a steady supply of Prince and Zappa tutorials with a serving of Danny Eddy wisdom!
That melody reminds me of music someone would use to take their clothes off. Like the old fashioned go go dancers. My aunt had ran a policemans club with a bar , stage, game room and BANQUET hall where the stage was. I saw somethings I probably should not have. As a tween. I am 57. The Question of U is one of my favorites from Prince.
Thanks Ricky. I haven't really delved into that too much. I'm a pretty lazy effects guy, lol. There are some great sites that contain this info though - check out guitarcloud.org
Yeah, I'm in a few bands. No one famous or anything like that. Just play weddings and pubs and wineries etc. That's really the whole point of my channel - you don't have to be the best, or be an absolute shredder to make a living from gigs and music.
@@dannyeddyguitar I’m not great , self taught, but soooo enjoy playing. Since moving to Melbourne I’ve really got into effects and met a few people who are local to me through instagram with the same interests. And of course listening to Prince for many years keeps me wanting to improve
Encore une reprise que je cherchais à apprendre. Merci, ta chaîne est vraiment la référence pour apprendre du Prince ! Question : quelles pédales utilises tu pour avoir le même son que Prince ?
Merci!! I recreate the sounds in Logic Pro. This one was based on the Vox AC30 model, a patch called Brighton Slapback - no doubt an emulation of Brian May's Brighton Rock tone. I cranked the gain up to maximum, backed off the echo (still heaps in there!) added loads of arena-sounding reverb, also added a retro chorus pedal. EQ completely flat.
If you listen to this SOLO closely, it's actually Prince replaying the first verse as the solo! I just shared this song as THE BEST SOLO EVER RECORDED.😎😎😎😎
Hi Samuel! There are quite a few sites dedicated to Prince's gear. But, playing funk is really in your fingers. It's all about the 'feel' - the placement of your notes, chords, and phrases in relationship to the beat. What I'm saying is, Prince is super funky, but lots of his gear is pretty rock - like his Mesa-Boogie heads through Marshall cabs. Whereas, many funk guitarists opt for much cleaner sounding amps, like a Fender Twin for example. Also, Prince and many other funk guitarists liked to record directly into the desk, bypassing the amp sound - or, mix the two signals together, like Nile Rodgers. As for effects, personally, my go-to is a good compressor to help even out the pick attack and make the cropped chords and staccato notes sound more percussive. But Prince LOVED his stomp boxes, especially Octave units, Choruses, Flangers, Overdrives... LOTS to think about!
Thanks for this detailed analysis one doesn’t even know what makes a piece of muisc works untill it’s explained then it’s twice the treat! I looooooooooove Prince can’t get enough of him. That guitar tone sounds sweet by the way what amp do you use?
Thanks for your feedback! That guitar tone is simply the "Brighton Slapback" preset in Logic, with the echo set to dotted 1/8ths, added a retro chorus - set nice and fast like Prince did, and a lot of reverb courtesy of Logic's Space Designer plugin.
Hi Danny. I think that you are the only person on youtube that i could make a Prince request. Please, take a listen to Erotic City (Live At First Avenue 1984). I really really can't figure out what he is doing but its amazing! Can't believe this was just a jam

All those melodic ideas in that outro alone. Prince was a singularity.
Absolutely! That sort of thing makes his albums such a fulfilling experience. No throwaway ideas.
Thanks for taking the time to talk about the GENIUS of Prince. America's Mozart of Pop Music!
Thank YOU for taking the time to watch and comment!
All of the solo’s Prince did were awesome, a master of his craft.
Absolute truth, Meade!

Great job
That huge snare was used for the other songs for the 1990 concerts as a running theme. Genius
Thanks, Scott. Yeah, that snare! His imprint was on every part of his sound.
Probably my favorite Prince guitar solo, sir. Well done.
It's a masterpiece of taste!

The beat of that song was inspired in the sound of a basketball
Poom poopoom!
Yes, I did read that.

Can you do an analysis of the guitar solo on "Automatic" from 1999 album.

Hello Danny! Please, what kind of strato you play? Can’t read….😮 thanks bro 4 answer me.
Hi Jo. That's a Fernandes Strat copy. The model was known as 'The Function' But it's been heavily modded over the last 35+ years.

Hi Tim. That's my old Fernandes 'The Function'. 1st decent guitar I got as a teen - still one of my faves to play!
