Give them the list of "technological requirements" then. You can not tell me that Taifa laptops are so cutting edge that no other computer manufacturer can match them.

Why should they buy that particular brand? It doesn't make sense..Its like telling people to only buy one brand of clothes...

Don't impose unreasonable expectations on students. Sell the software separately then allow students to buy laptops wherever they want.

What difference does it make having a personal laptop with the same specs, this ain't a software Professor, Looking at the specs the Taifa laptop is way expensive than the imported, how does the plant help solve technology and economy for the parents then?

The government is doing this as they had to borrow to finance this scam in the first place.

This prof. Romanus Odhiambo has clearly avoided the question: what if the students do NOT want to buy the laptop and use their other means???? This laptops deal smells of a corrupt deal....someone or some people are banking fat cheques...why force people to buy them if not everyone needs them? Doesn't the university have a comp lab? Why is this prof. insisting on less advantaged students paying in installments????

It's a scam, that's why this odhiambo character is saying what he is saying. The government needs the money with their thieving ass!

I wish The reporter would have pushed The man further. His solution is pay in installments in a country where even fees is a problem this man decides a laptop is required. I Dont get it. His eyes tell u he is trying so hard to believe his own words. The man probably got a loan and wants students to pay. How callous!

Now, David. what field are you in??? are you even a JKUAT student??? have you used or compared the taifa laptops and found out what is different ( software or hardware )???? finally, is it possible for you to air your comments in a respectful manner. Remember it's just a "personal opinion" if you have no facts. chill out or give solutions to this matter, not meaningless insults.

Now that explanation is total BS..a laptop no matter where its assembled should be able to do whatever function. People should not be forced to buy any products, Kenya is not communist China where gov even dictates how many children to sire. But having said that, there is absolute need to promote our locally assembled products.

which technological need is this guy talking about..so dumb , a laptop is full of packages ,unless students need super softwares in their learning which is not the case for majority of learners.. .typing projects and watching movies all night ..Maybe the clock speed is to high which i even dout is not more than 1.2Gz..#

Bullshit! what OS does it have. you just assembled dell, Hp parts and now you think this is genious? You cant force people to Buy this gabbage. Kwani ni server ya kurender 3D animation. Dont take advantage of Kenyans. Even microsoft does not force its employee to use Windows some use linux and that is nature. If you are competing let it be fair

Coming up with their laptop was a progressive thing, forcing it down people's throats because the competition out there is stiff and their devices lack market share because of pricing and alleged sub par quality issues is just outright disgusting!! What they should do is improve their product, make it match up to the others, sort out pricing and earn their place in the market. nkt! pissed off alumnus.
