You are a here bro! Im in the middle of retrofitting the 2023 GLI DSG shifter into my mk5 gti man!
U left out a very important thing brother u need a new clamp around the brown part to hold it in so it won’t easily left up or break the plastic hook inside the rest is great information just that clamp is a MUST AutoZone has them or Home Depot I recommend the ones with the flat screw driver clamp then the plastic switch one
He tells you to get it at the start just get a band clamp and tighten

Great video bro, helped alot! I noticed you didn't put back a metal ring that was cut. I used a "cinch clamp" to replace it... Just incase it decided to pop off, it really shouldn't but its all your own preference.
How has it been working after this time has passed?
Mines still sturdy with no clamp but if i pull up hard it will come off. Ill put one eventually

You forget to put the new metal ring when you cutting !!!
You dont need that metal ring . Its already tight enough to hold itself. Its just a double secure

the white plastic part that holds the button.. i wasn’t strong enough to pull the knob off so i just decided to put it back together but i can’t get the white plastic bit back onto the shift knob for the button to work.. is there a way to put it back on or so i have to get a mechanic to do it?
