I remember learning mae geri in the early 70s .broke a toe in kumite because I had not got the knack of curling toes back .After that healed I soon learned to kick with balls of my feet.Ushiro geri was my fav as the heel of the foot hits the target ,and the heel is solid .

@@John-ob7dh nice just cause we did sikaran my teacher taught us to use the ball of the foot with our round house back in the. 90’s and yes and the spinning hook kick we used the heel and side kick the side of the blade of the foot I’m amazed at how different tkd is to karate so much
Sharp and crisp technique. All I can add is that he better make contact with those kicks because with his hands down around his waist, if he misses, he will be spitting teeth. One of the by-products of training in a style that doesn't allow for or train to punch in the face is that you sometimes forget to protect it.
Excellent kicks workout. If I may, I have a few observations to share. When you do full speed, sometimes it's difficult to see the thrust in your yoko kekomi and ushiro geri. Thanks for a quick reference video. Keep grinding keep growing ✌🏼️👊🏼
Thank you for observing. Just for you information I am not going full speed, I am just flowing. Not saying in deep stance after each kick, this will build more fluidity due to high volume repetitions.
Hi Jason. One kick i do not see demonstrated very often, is my favourite. JODAN KEAGE ( Snap kick ) I used it a lot in kumite ,obviously not making contact ,but I could have .I found it a great kick as most guys had no idea where it came from .I used the side of my foot to connect.
Jason, this is an excellent video ~ but I would like to offer some constructive criticism that when you are doing Ushiro-geri you place more emphasis on the heel, which is the kicking surface, rather than the edge of the foot. I look forward to seeing more of your videos in the coming months. Best wishes to you, K.
Clarification please. I thought as I learned also in Shotokan, The front snap kick is just a front kick done with snap and the kicking foot return to its original position; while the thrust is executed the same way as in snap kick but this time the kick is thrust forward that the kicking foot will land forward.
Well it depends on the target area. For kekomi front kick, almost never do you kick an opponent straight directly with your heel. I like to kick the thigh or lower core region, this is more practical.
@@ULTIMATEKARATEOFFICIAL I do the thrust kick direct from the ground without lifting it first and thrusting forward as shown in the video. In barefoot the ball of the feet will be the impact point while if I am in my shoes I prefer the heel as impact point; and kicking it in the bladder area.
I learn goju ryu but it really doesn't matter what karate style you do but apparently both our styles specifically gave rise to kyokushin which I find interesting as our style isn't as fancy in term of kicks. The front kick we all learn in karate with the recoil is so we can train in one place to accommodate the size of the dojo but I also guess it helps train the specific muscles for kicks too. Not that the recoil kick can't be used in a fight but I don't see it as common because you want to bring your weight forward into the kick. At my school we use the ball of the foot too but there is no difference in the mechanics of the kick and I see both as practical in a self defense situation. As for the way you are taught a front thrust kick, I see it's advantage is in its speed but lacks the power against the way Jason is doing it. At the end of the day, these differences in styles and even other martial arts is awesome to pick up on as it's pretty much straight up bunkai. Different ways of doing things and what scenarios they work in help us become more complete fighters. Let us not separate ourselves due to style, let's just share our knowledge and open our minds to endless possibilities. Even different goju ryu schools have variation like all "styles," just in case anyone was wondering. @ULTIMATE KARATE awesome content! I have a big fascination with kumite and simply loving the stuff I have seen thus far! The foot work stuff helped me so much, I finally understood the "bounce!" A huge break through in my martial arts journey so thankyou so much
Question, is the Mae Geri Keage similar to the Front Kick in Muay Thai in terms of purpose? I started working out again, and I plan on getting back into Martial Arts. I currently know BJJ and Muay Thai, but for some odd reason I want to learn Karate to add to the Arts I know. Until I'm fully in Shape, and have finances stable enough for classes I am going to use Videos for beginner techniques(Kata and Kumite included). So I'm curious if any of the kicks I learned in Muay Thai would transition well going into Karate?
It helps for balance, but also, the more you utilize or position your hands, the less you are relying on your legs to perform the kick. If you don’t move your hands at all, you will not Telegraph the kick.
Yes it’s difficult to be complete rear facing on ushiro geri in full momentum. As you inevitably must turn back to shomen. But thank you for watching, I will improve! OSS!
You have no control over your kicks, you should step down after a kick not fall down. Ushiro Geri is a back kick, not a spinning back kick, you never cross your feet in front of the leg that is throwning a Yoko Geri... never! Your kicks are terrible, if you are what a black looks like from your dojo it is definitely not " The house of Shoto" it is an embarrassment to traditional karate. I have trained many times in Okinawa, you would be handed a white belt in Naha. How much did you pay for your shiny black belt?
@@ccsiz LOL, it's ok brother, no matter who you are, ppl will find reasons to critique or hate. But staying humble, respectful, and positive, these are the number one lesson of a real martial artist. Hope all is good brotha!
Obviously this guy missed the first and perhaps most important lesson in martial arts. Calling someone an embarrassment to karate is downright disrespectful. Especially for a guys who has devoted much time to publishing content on TH-cam over the years.
@@Sora-wq5oi This guy of over 40 years in traditional Okinawan Karate didn't miss any lesson. You are doing martial artists a disservice by patting them on the back when they actually are terrible. This is the problem with commercialized dojos, it's all about the dollar, these schools quite often grade children to black belt and pass everyone at a grading because they payed for it. Traditional karate tells you if you suck then you fix it, there is no room for snowflakes in traditional karate. Who cares how much time you put into making youtube videos, if what you are showing is wrong then it's wrong!
