  • This video is about my trekking trip to Churdhar Peak with my friends.
Churdhar Peak is a holy place related to Lord Shirgul Maharaj, a deity widely worshipped in the region. Churdhar Peak is at a height of 12,000 ft. above sea level and is the highest peak of the Shivalik Range in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh. Haripurdhar, Nohradhar and Chaupal are the three bases for the Churdhar Trek to the Churdhar Peak. At the top of the Churdhar peak, a giant statue of Lord Shiva amazes as well as takes you back to the tales of the great Indian epics like Mahabharta and Ramayana. Churdhar Trek to a peak of 3647 meters above sea level is a tough and challenging trek, passing through the changing scenes of the diverse nature but when you place your feet on the peak point, you feel satisfied and overwhelmed with earth’s spectacular beauty.
The whole area of 56.16 km² comes under the sanctuary, which makes it one of the most peaceful places on earth. While trekking you will experience the dense jungle forest you are trekking in. Avoid trekking in the night as it has some giant animals staying in that jungle.
The local people of the Sirmour region worship Lord Shrigul as their "Devta" and are much devoted to this place. Churdhar Peak (highest peak in the outer Himalayas) can be approached by two main routes, from Nohradhar, Sirmour by 14 km trek and from Chaupal by 8 km trek. It takes 7 to 8 hours to reach Churdhar Peak for a normal trekker. Most people use the Nauradhar route to complete this trek. You will find local shops and stays at Nauradhar, while during the trek you will find only two dhabas for tea & Maggi for snacks. There is a temple below the Churdhar peak of Shrigul Maharaj. There is saraye where you can stay at a minimum cost and you will get a portion of food in langar given by the deities at the temple.
The Churdhar Peak is mentioned in the book, The Great Arc, by John Keay but is referred to as The Chur. It is from this peak that George Everest made many astronomical readings and sightings of the Himalayas mountains around 1834. He was the Surveyor General of India and did the initial survey of the full length of India as well as some very accurate measurements of the earth's curvature.
Churdhar peak is famous for its Lord Shiva temple. It is also believed to be the place where Lord Hanuman came for the “Sanjeevni Booti” to save Laxman.
It was a two-day trek where you can enjoy the pleasant weather and camping with the bonfire.
The best time to visit Churdhar Peak is the summer months but one can experience this trek in winters too but with proper gears and compass as during snow, all ways are like the same as Churdhar is moderate to heavy snowfall.
You can reach easily Nauradhar by bus as bus service is available from Solan district in Himachal Pradesh, as bus service works between 6AM to 5PM from Solan bus stand. So you can plan your trek accordingly. One can reach Solan by bus or by train easily accessible from Delhi & Chandigarh. A lot of spirituals come here to visit a huge statue of Chureshwar Maharaj (Lord Shiva).
