ASM #300 I believe which will have a Todd signature. Anyway I like the full facsimile books simply to read the original book, look at the ads and enjoy them,. I don't buy them all I buy the ones Id like to buy. Some of the facsimile books like UFO 4, isn't old enough to spark my interest to pick up. I love the history of comics and the Facsimile books give me a chance to read them. Also, if I ever can buy the original Superman 1, I now will have a Facsimile decoy for display.
I’ve bought a few facsimile for one of the reasons you stated Matt… to have it in MY hands to read! For me, as you stated, there is nothing like holding it your hands and turning the pages. Seeing the vibrant colors and goofy ads… ah, it’s a Calgon moment and takes you away!
The cool thing about that Superman facsimile, that I showed, was that the inside pages were newsprint. I think the whole book was as close to the original printing as possible.
@@MattWoodsComics Oh wow, that's awesome, I'm going to have to get that! There are some older ones that I don't have that I'd like to get (like X-Men 1) that are getting pricey on ebay so there are at least some people out there collecting these 😀
Facsimile comics are great! The most important ones are for a historical reading experience, to fill in a gap in collecting certain issues to complete a series or arc, you wanted it in your hands to read, feel, see because it’s from a favorite artist or character or you love the cover art. There are quite a few reasons behind reprints besides publishers giving the audience a chance to read back issues extremely hard to get your hands on. I personally always pick them up (even if I own the original) so, friends, my niece, nephew, or son can experience reading some of the issues I grew up with. All good reasons and I share the same reasons with you.
Great topic. Most people I know are loving the facsimiles. I bought just about every one dollar reprint and pick up the "full price" complete facsimiles with a bit more pickiness, but love the ones i do have.
Fun legit books in my view. I buy them, some I have the originals, others I never will get. I have some hung in my office. Others I have in a short box.
It is an ASM 300. I rolled the dice once and got it up to a 9.8. Not sure it was wise to send it to the Todd McFarlane signing. I would love to see that booked as a signed 9.8. But no guarantee it is still a 9.8. It might be a giant loss for me: A roll of the dice. Needless to say I’m on eggshells until it is back.
@@MattWoodsComics wow what an exciting and nerve racking submission that is! Can’t wait for that reveal! Either way, that book has one hell of a story to tell
I like the fact that the facsimiles are prints as they were from years okay. It's fun to check out the old ads, and hold a copy of a book you might never be able to own. Great video!
I wouldn't say I "collect" facsimiles, or have any interest in doing so, but they certainly aren't a waste of money if you want to read them! I'm 57 - when I was a kid in the 70s there were no facsimiles, virtually no book reprints, and only a few regular comic series reprints (Marvel Tales and a couple of others). So if you wanted to read any of those old stories like, say, 1st Spiderman or Superman, you really had to look around for them and maybe you'd have to pay collector's prices even for a reprint of some kind. But now there are so many choices, and if you want to experience all those old stories you can get them all kinds of ways at all different price ranges. So from the standpoint of the reader or the not-rich collector, things are better than ever.
You make a great point. I wouldn’t say I collect facsimiles either. But I have quite a few in the collection. Fun books to read. I’m glad that reading key books is easier today than it was in the 70’s. But I would love to pay 70’s prices to get those same keys today. 😁 excellent comment.👊🏼
I’m relatively new in the comic book collecting well actually getting back into it from when I was a kid and I know I will never justify to myself paying those high prices for the real issue so just like you I enjoy the facsimile for the soul Factive I love reading the comics in hand even though I do read online and I love looking at the ads of what was going on back in that time. So I say real or fake collect what you love just don’t pay real prices for fake ones.
I can’t help but feel bad for the person who paid $3000 for the facsimile of that book. That should have never happened. You are right don’t pay real prices for fake books.
I just got back into collecting single issues and I really got into Facsimile Editions. I like TPs but there is something special about the recreated experience of admiring the cover art, flipping through the pages, and perusing the ads.

Facsimiles are great as reader copies while safeguarding the originals. My only concern is exactly what happened to the buyer you mentioned spending $3000 on a facsimile thinking it was real. Great video 🤘
I’ve wonder about the buyer as well. It was an eBay sale. I don’t think any news has ever been released about that sale. When that was happening I flagged a few accounts for selling the facsimile at the price of a first print
If I can remember I think it was spider man 300 first venom and I think your getting it sign by the Todd father I need that in my collection but getting back to facsimile I want the first she hulk I going to get the first print and the facsimile that’s coming out to nothing wrong with getting facsimile because like you said some books are why out of my prices range
You are right ASM 300! Getting the facsimiles are just a fun part of the hobby. We don’t even need a reason. But the truth is; many books are just way out of our price range. Facsimiles allow us to dream 😁

Good reads are good no matter how you find it. Original, reprint, facsimile, or even digital. You have some pretty good books there. Thanks for the great comment
Facsimiles have been wallet-friendly to me. I love buying these books for historical reasons. Obviously I'm not buying all of them not only because my wallet deserves kindness from me, but because I just buy the books I'm interested in, so skipping books like Action Comics 1 isn't something that makes me feel bad; it's up to the characters I'm personally invested in, like Batman, about whom I have 3 of his facsimiles, including his very first appearance in Detective Comics 27. (Soon I'll have Batman 1.)
I think they are good for people who want a reader copy, but if you're buying for the intent of it going up in value, you're not going to do well. Sometimes there are rare occurrences, though. I like them for the fact of having a physical copy for me to read and have in my hand
I’m with you I just bought that same Superman number 1 and first appearance wolverine and first appearance punisher. I bought them because let’s be real I will never be able to buy the originals.
That would be cool. I’m sure the reason that they don’t is because of cost. They don’t use that size paper anymore. The printers would have to retool the printing machines. Let alone finding the correct sized paper on the market. But I would be the first in line if they did print in the original size
As investments, these reprints are not good. But if you are like me, and just want to read some of these classic books and can't afford original copies, they are great. I've bought several and haven't regretted any of them. Great art, great stories that in most cases are vastly superior to most books being published today. I call that a bargain.
