Oh wow! This is incredibly random but could I ask (poster/uploader/anyone) as to where the background visual effects came from or their original source or even how they were made? It reminds me an unbelievable amount of Sailor Uranus/Neptune signature attack background vfx from 90's Sailor Moon classic! I was just rewatching today so seeing something so similar here I feel is pretty funny in a mild / muted sense! The background was made with multiple layers of scrolling masks that blend over each other to produce the final result. I don’t remember which base effects are scrolling past, but it would be one of the generated effects next to “Clouds” in any effects list. Multiple of these are layered, each with a small scroll. These combine into a final greyscale mask that ripples over the bottom layer, which is a stack of radial gradients with effects applied that separate the gradient into distinct bands of color (rather than a smooth gradient) etc. Add another radial gradient on top, use the greyscale rippling mask in the middle to modulate it (or whatever blending effect I used), then blend that over the bottom stack of gradients (blend mode of maybe hard light? I don’t remember; just play around with them). I wasn’t going for any particular result; I was just playing around until something looked niftypuff.
Turok 1 is seriously one of the best games ever made.
Absolute classic and still awesome to play in 2024.
It is, I do not play video games as often anymore, but Turok 1, and Bioshock 1 are some of the ones that I keep going back to replay here and there.
