It's about time that Ssniperwolf finally got sniped into her comeuppance after years of getting away scot-free. The fact that she managed to win the _Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Award 2019_ back then, despite her controversies happened, is beyond me.
The only react content I watch are the ones with the proffesionals, for example like Jonathan Ferguson (the keeper of the firearm and artillery of the royal army museum) , and Doctor ER. They are not only reacting but also gives factual commentary on the subject shown on their screen.
oh boy, it's my favorite as well. and by favorite I mean it's the one that is acceptable which is transformative like you said. But boy oh boy do I hate the opposite end.
Reaction content can be handled well. I particularly love the reaction channels ran by people like teachers, cops, etc. who react to content involving history, or police investigations, and them proving some interesting insight and trivia to add onto the topic discussed in the video they're watching. In my opinion, reaction content is fine as long as the person reacting provides some interesting insight about the topic they're reacting to. Blatantly stealing tiktoks and acting all shocked is _not_ reacting.
This is exactly right. I think it's also good to mention that someone doesn't need to be an expert on a topic to make a good reaction, although that certainly helps. Just being funny or giving your opinions is good.
By far one the best reaction channels I’ve seen have backgrounds in the media they ready to. Animators watching animated movies and discussing the technical aspects of the films they see, or musicians listening to music and talking about how the music is able to succeed as it does. These types of content are so entertaining and quite educational. I think to seeing someone which knowledge on the subject appreciate the work they are seeing makes it so much more enjoyable.
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. For me, I love channels like Gameology that show case experts reacting to games. Like Chris the Cop reacting to L.A. Noir, or Larry Lawton, famous Jewel burglar reacting to GTA. Other good reaction channels are Legal Eagle, Dr. Mike, and my personal favorites, Mr Terry and Vlogging through History.
@@svenrio8521 YESS big shout out to Mr Terry & Vlogging Through History! These dudes are the best history-related-topics reacting channels you can possibly find on YT
Seeing that thumbnail in my subscription feed was the most traumatic jumpscare I have ever experienced. I genuinely thought I had accidentally subscribed to reaction TH-camr for a sec before I saw the LIMC guy
Proper reactors should pay attention and show interest in what they're watching, give meaningful commentary, edit out enough to make people want to see the original video, and above all, credit the original creators and tell the viewers to support them. It's such a shame that so many are so lazy with the format, and use it to take advantage of the original creators hard work.
Idk. The fact that I as an animator work a month on a video barely get views on my other account and reactor get 10k gets on my nerves. Zero effort content stealing is what tractors are.. nothing more nothing less....
DarkViper has another important point that not many people talk about. React content doesn't just take the views away from the original video (since it has to now compete with a copy of itself from a probably larger channel) it also steals view from every other video on youtube. Posting more content more often is always better in youtube, but reacting allows you to post a lot of HIGH QUALITY content very quickly since someone else already spent the time to make the actual content and all you need to do it watch it while barely paying attention. Even if we had a system where a reaction channel had to give a big percentage of it's revenue to the original creators it's still a loss for everyone. Since yes they're paying you let's say 90% of the revenue from the one video but every other video they upload is also potentially pulling viewers from you as well. Although a big revenue share is definitely still a good step imo.
I watched all of DarkViperAU's videos on this topic, and it feels utopian to think that everyone can understand all the main issues that are going on with it. Some points are not obvious and take some time to understand, I myself did not truly understand the depth of the issue with a single viewing. I doubt people would be able to sit and watch more than 10 minutes of content dealing with this issue. I have to say that i'm not too hopeful about this parasite spreading all over the internet.
@@mopilok yeah, the whole series is a bit much for a casual view. You'd have to REALLY give a shit about it if you want to fully understand, though even then you'd probably forget a few important points.
it's important in that is a genuinely bad argument "stealing impressions" can be said about literally all content that you do not like, including his own. unless you say that his videos are the most deserving ever, which they 100% arent, the argument simply falls apart as it is both way to broad of an idea that can be applied to literally everything, but also because it's not very educated, it is assuming that everyone who watches react content would still be on the site watching other things if there wasnt react content, which is simply false (counts triple for when its on a different platform) react content is a nuanced topic, theres a lot of issues that are actually symptoms of other issues and a lot of things that arent well understood, but making genuinely bad arguments like this is an easy way to get people to not care about what you say and to disagree
Some reaction channels actually put effort and provide knowledge to the contents they're reacting to while some others just stare into oblivion while reacting.
Yeah I watched some artist react to a chalkeaters music video and he explained everything that effect this section the vids 18 minutes while the music video was 4 minutes that is a good reaction
You can make an original, edited video of the matter without reacting and reuploading the whole video, for example Legal eagle " Real Lawyer Reacts to The Little Mermaid ". He touched on specific matter, analysis it and critique it and made a well edited transformative content. Those reactor are making a market substitute for the original content. Taking a 3 minutes video and reacting to it to be 100 minutes isn't transformative. No matter how much input you add in the " reaction " if you reuploaded the the whole original video or at least re-upload " The heart of the content " that's doesn't make it under fair-use.
*Signs of good reaction content*: - Lots of discussion outside of the actual video reaction (not padded out, but actual valid discussion) - Reaction camera is bigger than the reaction video screen itself. (Renegades React Channel for instance does this well) - Reaction video is done a few days after the original video was released, giving it time to accumulate views with the Algorithm. (This way, a big channel uploader and a big channel reactor both can get sufficient views, Asmongold and The Act Man for instance made an agreement on this) This also allows smaller creators that don't go noticed by the Algorithm to gain further views thanks to the reaction by a bigger channel. - Full credit is given to the original creators, bonus points if their channels are actually shown edited into the video itself and given a proper shoutout. (not just a simple link in the description)
More signs: - permission granted from the creator - the entire video is uploaded so that the viewer feels prompted to watch the whole thing on the original channel
Legal Eagle has a really good video about this from a legal standpoint. The gray area in fair use is the "transformative" term, because it's not something that everyone can agree on
Legal Eagle's video was a bit more opinionated than that. He cites a ruling on an actual legal case regarding react content where the Judge spells out pretty plainly what kinds of react content would be considered fair use and which wouldn't. He goes on to mention that people could cite that case if they wanted to sue someone like xQc and it'd pretty much be a slam dunk. Same goes for anyone who doesn't say anything or uses pre-recorded video or AI that just describes what's on screen.
If your reaction reinforces the point of the original video it's not transformative. So every streamer saying "wow that's crazy" to a crazy video is just as on the hook.
Pretty sure no one hates reaction streamers, we all just hate lazy streamers. Who just watch videos without adding anything at all, no reactions, just eating or generic "wow" This is why Jackfilms is such a chad
Well the retards don’t hate reaction streamers but all of them still steal content. Don’t care if they even credit the source since as a viewer I don’t even care to see it twice if I already saw it once
I believe that the reason why reaction videos managed to garner such a huge following is simply due to us as humans wishing to validate ourselves. Let‘s say you‘ve got a video you like, but none of your actual friends are interested in watching it. You feel invalidated because your interest is one-sided. Since reaction videos often include highly dramatized reactions, you get to feel like you‘re not alone regarding the topics you find interest in. Reaction videos are essentially a replacement for human interaction at this point.
Your reasoning is correct, but most people don't watch the content their streamer is reacting to, themselves. I think it's just parasocialism - like how you wanna watch videos with friends.
"they hated jesus because he tells the truth" is also fits so well on how those reactors and their fanbase attacking DarkViperAU and his crusade againts Reaction content.
One of the best solutions I've seen proposed has been by ZoeBee. This is in the context of a livestream, but basically, she will send the link to all her viewers first and then only stream herself reaction and the video clock so people know what time to synch up to. It was a bit awkward to pause simultaneously, but a simul-watch imbedded video player should be technically feasible on both streaming channels as well as uploaded TH-cam channels, kind of like a picture-in-picture situation. The only hard part would be to share ad revenue between the reactor and reacted, but the naïve solution would just be to pause both videos when one has to play you an ad for the uploaded and I guess the streamer would have to just let the ad play out.
this is _exactly_ what I imagined as solution. To play the facecam only in one window (with a timestamp) and play the original in another window. A more advanced solution to that would be an openly accessible sort of library where a person's pause and resume times are recorded and then uploaded (only a recording of at which times have they pressed spacebar/mouse) which is also synced to the facecam. Reaction videos are not inherently bad but the execution done currently is very poor
A lot of anime reactors on YT do this. And since they usually have a small snippet at the bottom for subtitles, the viewer doesn’t even always have to put up a copy of the episode, while still not allowing them to get the full experience without having seen the original.
that picture in picture sounds like it would be more useful to sidestep copy-right on streams, the streamer has the option to make an embedded youtube window(ad free btw) to watchers so that x music plays on youtube while none of it is in the actual stream to avoid strikes but a deal has to be made if twitch implements this
I am actually really proud of DarkViper for making all of his videos about Reaction Content, there is something real nice in knowing that one of your favourite creators did an interesting and unique research; even tho back then I thought of it as annoying, since he was "the GTAV guy", and I was not interested in youtubers drama
He still continues to go after big creators like Ludwig which highlights the cognitive dissonance some people have. If you call out a smaller creator you're punching down but if you call out a bigger creator, all their braindead chimps come out of the woodwork to call you a clout chaser.
I watched his content quite consistently and was fine with his reaction content videos until he compared reaction streamers to people spiking drinks at parties, that's when i stopped watching him for some time to recover from the mental truck that hit me after that statement.
Moist Cr1t1cal's reactions are mixed. Sometimes he goes over news that has happened either locally or more widespread, plays a clip, then gives his thoughts, opinions, and fact about it. That form of content I think is fine. Other times it is just just playing a clip from his streams and that can be about whatever, and most of the time it won't fall under fair use.
@@daizenmarcurio I am biased because I do like watching his content quite a bit, but not so much his streams. This issue about reactions and how these people will deal with it is interesting and I'm wondering how a lot of them will deal with this. Sniperwolf I do think will stay around because her audience is mostly children, but seeing people rally against reactions and cause youtube to shadow ban this content would be funny to see.
his on-stream reactions are mostly spent in silence or thanking people for subs, then his videos are just those streams cut up in to conveniently 8 minute long pieces and uploaded
@@Yellowredstone I like the part where I have to click his videos to find out what his "funny" video titles are about. Guys too big to fail since his fanbase will watch anything he whips out
Reactions videos are almost as old as youtube. The problem is most modern react videos are just them staring at the screen for 90% of the time. This an issue with YT in general where early YT worked because the videos were short and snappy due to length constraints and lack of financial incentive to drag videos out.
it actually quite funny how aggresive TH-cam's music copyright bot back then but then when someone just "react" a whole video by just putting 256×256px facecam on the corner of the reacted video it counted as fair use.
I think it’s a good idea to at least diversify or branch out. Like Charlie, contrary to what some may think, isn’t exclusively a commentary channel. He branches out into a variety of subjects. Reviews, esports, tier lists, music, etc. his content is diverse enough to never really get stale. So it never really falls into that repetitive reaction content. At least, not for me
Same. He doesn't show the entirety of its content as well, still on safe grounds imo even Charlie himself against these type of reactions. I think, if someone been following Charlie for years even before his hair was long will understand. Like dude even bought entire warehouse just for video production.
Yeah. Say whatever you want about his content, but at least Charlie has a personality and a strange of sense of humor that stands out among other boring, bad commentary channels. Same can't be said with Mutahar.
I wouldn't say I like Charlie's content now, but I can say that what he's doing is beyond what reaction Channels does. As others said, he doesn't just show what he's reacting to on the screen, but his videos are mostly him talking about it, making his audience, if interested, check out the source to learn more about it 😊.
That's why Commentary videos are largely preferred by the community. People like Jarvis, Drew, Danny, Kurtis and ChadChad are always reacting to the internet's bullshit by giving a rather reasonable, relatable and compelling opinion on whatever issue it is that they discuss instead of just watching them overreact to make for time. The only reactor that has won my heart is MaximBady
Man I still remember the crusade against reaction channels of 2015-2016! Glad to see a new crusade going on now! Being honest, "fair use" as a concept of law has practically lost all its meaning: from companies and individuals abusing the system to take down transformative works, to users literally stealing content pretending is fair use, like uploading a whole recording of something copyrighted and then put a dumb "it is only to commenting and education porpoises" bs.
The copyright system abuse is the most concerning one, as every week I got at least 1 video about "I got false strikes from unknown person/company" recommended to me from completely different original content creator, that makes me feel bad about their fate
@@sihamhamda47 Yeah it is a shame, especially considering there has not be any progress to fix the problem, but I would never say that users stealing content and saying is "fair use" is less concerning, it is not just reaction content but all the time content is being uploaded disregarding the rights of the owners while claiming is "transformative" or "for education porpoises". Those actions only weaken the concept of fair use even more.
The blindwave is a perfect example how a reaction channel SHOULD be done - reacters cameras are way bigger than the thing they are reacting and is the main focus - providing genuine expressions and reaction of what they are watching - keeping track of what they found the most entertaining in the media they are reacting - doesn't show the entire thing, only tiny tidbits of what they think the viewers may find interesting - making the reacted media vaguely visible so only people that already watch the full thing can keep up with it - AND the biggest of them all, doesn't end the video the moment the media they are reacting ends, and provided post-react commentary of what they think about it A lot of big react content creators barely even make it past stage 1
I think it's very telling that when smaller youtube channels do reaction content, they have the video that they're watching shrunken down in the corner of the screen. Where as most big name streamers and youtubers that do reaction content have their *facecam* shrunken down in the corner of the screen.
Glad that darkviperAU is finally having people realise that this form of content can be very exploitative. 😊 (edit: not saying darkviperAU started the 'hate' but he did make one of the most comprehensive set of videos about the subject in most recent memory)
eh, maybe he was doing a good thing. Recently, he compared Reaction content to SA, and apparently, thinks that they are on the same tier of evil, so Im pretty sure that his hate for Reaction content has consumed him.
@@mightymachine5372First, it wasn't even recently, he got shit on back when he posted a document about reaction content. Second, he clarified that the use of that analogy was to ilustrate that reactors don't care about consent in regards of asking creators before reacting to their work. And thirdly, he already clarified that the use of that analogy was used for pure hiperboly and that he doesn't actually think that reactors and sexual abusers are the same.
@@mightymachine5372it was a shit joke in a draft script released to his audience for feedback Basically: "If reactors don't care about consent to use content from the people they react to, Id be careful with an open drink around them at a party" To say this is directly and seriously equating react content to SA is disingenuous.
Amazing content LIMC. You and Papa Meat are two of my favorite content creators. You're both the perfect mix of fun and thought provoking. I really like this longer length video that you've put together. I hope you find success with doing these style videos. Have a great day
The difference btween reaction content and something like commentary is that commentary actually contributes to the content (or sometimes make it worse). It gives the viewer the chance to form an opinion and think about the thing the commentary creator is talking about instead of just laughing or getting angry about it.
The difference between reaction content and commentary content is that commentary content doesn’t rip off the entire video. They use portions of the work that they actually have something to say about and not make it up on the spot.
Not all reaction TH-camrs are bad, some are actually more decent than those "most popular" reaction streamers. One that I was a big fan of was the great and unfortunately-retired Charmx. Dude has a pretty huge charisma in his reaction videos, probably because his reactions are actually genuine. Unfortunately, because of TH-cam's stupidly strict copyright system, he had to quit TH-cam because it's just too much for him to take care of. Just sad to see the guy quit, but understandable why.
Indeed, he’s an opera singer who can talk in detail about the composition and the choices made when making the songs. That’s transformative, certainly more so than the people just putting their dumb face in the corner. Music is also different from videos. Music has replay value, so music found via a Marcomeatball video can then be looked up separately and listened to. On top of that, it’s video game soundtracks for him, so it’s not content stolen from small creators. Videos don’t have as much replay value. Once you watch a reaction channel watch it, you’ve seen it, and you’re unlikely to go to the OG channel just to watch something you already saw.
I would say that stuff isnt even reaction content and more or less commentary because they give commentary and criticism not just look at a camera with goofy faces
I don't watch much of reaction videos, but when I do, I only watch anime and cartoons reactions to see what these dudes on TH-cam thoughts about the anime and cartoons I watch to know their opinions and sometimes I get laughs, get cringe, and sometimes I be like "Bruh they don't get it" and sometimes I be like "It's hilarious to see how obvlivious they are with their theories" or sometimes I get salty if they don't like the show they're reacting while I like the show personally. I think it depends on the reaction channels on how they will do reacting to videos properly. They should be entertaining enough to satisfy the majority of the viewers at least
Some channels are actually quite good, there's a channel called dive talk that is mostly a reaction channel but they generally spend more time being informative and learning lessons from said videos than actually watching them. although they aren't streamers and therefore can put more effort into their work
I personally watch a couple reaction channels/streamers; but over the years I learnt to be selective with what type of reactor I’m looking for. Those who either don’t say absolutely anything during the view or, to the contrary, talk too much during the view without even pausing the video, missing potentially important parts of it are immediately scrapped by me; because in the first case they don’t add anything to the video, in the second they become more an annoyance that doesn’t even try to understand the video. My personal favourite channels are those who know what the pause button is and who try to briefly analyse or discuss about it (especially if they are a couple/group) before unpause it and going on. Or even better, experts of a certain subject (like an historian) that analyse and add context to a video, those are the best kind of reaction channel
The difficult part about reaction videos/steams is that there is no doubt an audience of people who are interested in watching content together with a steamer/internet personality and there is fundamentally nothing wrong with that. The problem arises with platforms like TH-cam and Twitch treating reaction content just like any other content, which means that the person reacting gets all the credit: all revenue from ads/donations/subscriptions as well as the evaluation in the recommendation algorithm and just the popularity itself. One possible solution might be to somehow create a platform or feature within another platform specifically for reactions and then ban them from the regular platform. Just like TH-cam already has a different section for shorts and live streams there could be a section for reactions with each normal video having a selection of available reactions/commentated versions, together with a tab on a persons channel page for all of their reactions. A system like this would allow TH-cam to give a majority of the revenue from reactions to the original creator and a small portion to the reacting person for their contribution. It would also allow TH-cam to count views, likes and other interactions on reaction videos towards the original to give it a more accurate and fair position in the recommendation algorithm.
This is actually a really good idea! Reaction videos are like add-ons anyway, so thinking of it like something youtube attaches to the original videos makes sense.
Honestly I can probably count on one hand the Reaction Channels I actually like and even then they aint exactly perfect neither. Blindwave is pretty cool because for the most part they actually go out of their way to try keep track of whatever information they learn and actually bothering to take notes and have after reaction discussions and stuff. Sometikes though they can be annoying (I think Calvin tends to be grating from time to time).
Darkviper makes a point of how that it isn't just taking videos from individuals but that argument is helpful because it appeals to emotion. it also takes away a spot that could be replaced by someone else's video, thus stealing the impressions that everyone would have benefited from. on-top of that, this is an issue created by late capitalism. legality doesn't matter as people are being taken advantage of because it is the lowest effort for the highest reward and there will always be people, given the opportunity and incentives to, damage others for their own personal gain.
I think the main thing people hate is reactors reuploading their reaction clips to TH-cam as videos if they did not do that then maybe it would be fine as there is not real competition for videos. I don't really know for sure, but I think that might be the way to go do it, or at the very least only upload small snippets of the stream instead of the full reaction
Some of my favorite TH-camrs at this time are reaction channels, but I do agree that there is a line that most people can simply ignore, which is "will you add input or not". If you just let the whole thing run without saying anything, you are stealing content and you're not transforming anything. But, if you pause the video, give your insight, your opinions, your own experiences, maybe some of your own stories, then you're doing something to transform the content, rather than simply sit and go "wow, thats crazy, i didn't know that, wow".
There should be a guideline which states that a reaction of a prerecorded piece of media which is longer than 10 minutes can only contain 3/4 of the original video, similar to how penguinz0 cuts out parts of his reactions in order to preserve the original video to some extent. Furthermore, reactors should be required to link the original video in the description, and, depending on how far you want to take it, there could be a minimum word counter of, for example, 5 in order to almost force constructive discussion.
Personally I think the biggest issue, as talked about extensively by the EFAP podcast, is the lack of transformation. Charlie specifically goes out of his way to provide enough reactions to cross that threshold of transformative content, which I feel should be awarded. He also gives credit too, which is nice.
Personally, I like a reaction streamer with a lot to say about the video that is constructive, educational & entertaining and also credits the original creator.
The only react content I tolerate are those that do it within their expertise, like cops, teachers, experts, yt rappers, former burglars etc. those that provide insight and pick out details in whatever they react to
Yeah, I like this one guy called Forrest Valkai, who’s a biologist, and he always goes WAY in depth while reacting to videos. He also has a great sense of humor.
@@Skellaton29 Larry Lawton and Knox Hill are my favorites Larry used to be one of the biggest jewel thieves in the US and he dissects the depiction of heists and theft in games and movies, has stories from his time in prison and is occasionally working as an advisor to help prevent theft in stores. Knox Hill is a very talented youtube rapper who reacts to music, mainly rap but has done reactions to other artists/genres (even anime openings), and breaks it all down from the flows, cadences, rhymes, lyrics with multiple meanings, even the instrumental and vocal production, all on the spot
Lemmino actually just gave an answear to the reaction drama in his most recent video (his 5 mil subscriber celebration) He actually provided a simple yet effective solution as well. Either not show the entire thing (as you dont need to watch something in its entirety to comment on it) as such people will still look for the original video to watch the rest of it or simply only show the spacebar and let your viewers know were you're at in the video and make them watch along on a second Tab/Monitor
Unless class action lawsuits happen against both the "reactors" and TH-cam/Tik Tok/etc. regarding Fair Use, I have no hope anyone will be incentivized to change anything
@@tappydani9378 No, that's not how class action lawsuits start. Several people who have had their work stolen need to contact a lawyer and establish a class and then other people can join.
About a year or two ago, LIMC made a video about Npesta's reaction of him winning one of GD's Hardest Levels. He spent so long on it and he started to cry and laugh and yell all at the same time. At the end of the video, LIMC said that Streamers overexaggerate their reactions and it just doesn't feel genuine, or they do that to attract viewers or something. When the video ended, I just wanted to punch my screen so hard because of what I just heard. About a year later, here I am, and I am now agreeing to what this man said. Reaction Channels overexaggerate their screams and joy so much that other people, mainly Gen Z's who are like 5 years old (borrowing their Mum's Phone) emulate them. It's a trend, and I highly despise it, because people think that screaming and yelling out in class, or more specifically just saying the N-Word out IN CHURCH (there was this one kid at my church who swore constantly and said the N-Word, and he's ONLY 11 YEARS OLD! What the hell is the Church or Parents doing?!) is cool and makes them look cool. I also despise how most of the memes we have these days are of Reaction TH-camrs. Remember back then when memes were ACTUALLY GOOD, when all of them were unique in their own ways? Unfortunately these days most of these memes are basically reactions from Reaction TH-camrs. And their reactions are all the same...WHAT THE HELL IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SCREAM FROM SOME TH-camR AND A SCREAM OF ANOTHER TH-camR?! They're both just screams, what the hell?! Great, so glad to see that influencers these days with more than 10 million subscribers or something are raising our Nation's Children to become racists, homosexual, and downright creeps without even knowing. Like, if they are like 10 years old right now and constantly say the N-Word, what makes you think that they will become mature and won't use it anymore in the future?!
There was a channel by the name of Juliet Reacts: her content intrigued me because she would edit down the videos immensely so they would only contain the bits where she provides her thoughts regarding the movie or show she was reacting to. Also helped that she would provide an insightful restrospective of the episode or movie after its viewing as well.
I like Charlie because he actually does his own stuff. His streams and reactions and whatever is whatever. I never really watch it unless it also runs in circles I'm in, but his other stuff I quite like. Heck his podcast is the only one I actively listen to.
there are 4 levels of react streamers penguinz0: internet news or summarizing a reddit/twitter/article post asmongold: actually criticises and gives his opinions on the things he is reacting to ssniperwolf: fake ass phony queen xqc: not even trying
@@tappydani9378 I'm surprised that there isn't a labor strike against TH-cam for being incompetent over not fixing the issue on their platform. @@poweroffriendship2.0 So you want people to copyright strike memes? How far are you drawing this line, I don't think you and the people pushing this understand how negatively it would impact the internet. @@declaringpond2276 That take of yours is pretty rubbish honestly. Sure, I think it would be a better idea to have TH-cam union, but considering how TH-cam completely jumped the shark for damaging the platform itself as well as other content creators got affected by the very issue that YT barely even fixed (e.g. removing the dislike button, comment bots, or the misuse of DMCA strike), then yes, people have the right to rally against YT if the platform crossed the line to itself. What you're referring to is a blackout, they tried it at twitch, did nothing, good luck with TH-cam im sure Mr beast and all the other TH-cam favored content creators will come out in support for TH-cam drama.
Reaction content has been around for a long time, it seems, Sunday shows on public TV reacting to funny clips of people getting hurt from the internet, can be classified as a reaction content segment
If I saw a "reaction" streamer or TH-camr reacting to MY content? Boy I'd be sending the copyright hounds after them immediately. Nothing like spending dozens, if not hundreds of hours on a single video only for some big shot to scoop it up and rake in the money and views while I get just a fraction of it. As for solutions? I think allowing original uploaders to take a cut of ad revenue would help immensely and also disincentivize the laziest of reaction videos. I'm sure TH-cam could make an algorithm that detects how much of an original video is used, so when the stolen video is in visible, THAT percentage of the video (turned into a percentage of views and ad-revenue) is shared with the original creator. (And in order to prevent this algorithm from being abused, it takes TIME OF UPLOAD into account, so someone can't re-upload your video and steal from you, which is currently a major problem with audio recently)
It honestly should be 80% to the original creator while 20% to the reactor soo that it makes it more worth it for someone to just make original content instead of stealing
The good kind of reaction content is where experts in a certain field react to content regarding that field and provide meaningful insight and commentary, case in point Corridor Crew
A study found that when primates (including humans) see someone they relate to/care about experience something, their own brains simulate a weakened version of the same experience. This is a big part of empathy, and it's also what makes reaction content mesmerizing.
I think a solution is to make all views go to the original video, if the reactions don't add enough to the video. This might result in people padding out videos even more, but it will also give views to the original creators, and make reactors put in some effort
Real talk, XQC's reaction to the MeatCanyon video about him is just sad. The dude legitimately didn't react beyond the very things he was mocked for. You would think that having to watch a highly twisted and grotesque interpretation of yourself would yield a more... interesting reaction. But, no. XQC didn't take the time to think over the implications of the video, and try to offer an actual perspective. He just behaved exactly like how he was parodied, making the video less of a parody and more of a genuine call-out.
He literally doesnt care because no action can be taken against him. He literally tried watching a movie on Kick and only stopped once the admins moved in to warn him and he never attempts to watch a movie again with chat. Only once action is taken against him will he really stop
Have an option on the yt dashboard that notifies you if your work is being reuploaded. Leaving it to the creator to decide what action should take place. They can even promote the re-upload if they want to. It's a small change, but the bigger problem is cross-platform content theft.
I think that's already a thing ppl don't use it just cause it's scary going after a big creator because even when they are in the wrong they can go complaining on Twitter to their stupid audience and send a lot of hate towards u
youtube doesnt have any reason to cripple one of their most viewed type of content, remember that we live in capitalism, the "social media algorithm" doesnt promote it because they like reactions, it promotes it because the people like reactions, people gotta stop blaming the youtubers and streamers for doing what their viewers encourage them to do, this shit is the fault of viewers, not the creators
@@gzorx such a stupid argument "Don't blame the ppl who exploit others to make money blame the ppl who give them their views" If we apply your logic to other parts of the world then we would be blaming ppl who do drugs rather then the ones who make them and we wouldn't have blamed ppl who sold slaves but only the ones who Bought them Stop dick riding ppl who screw others to gain for themselves
quick easy system i thought of in 5 seconds: allow a report on stolen content (fairly certain it already exists) BUT there's a box where you attach a link to the video that was stolen (an optional timestamp if only one part of the video was stolen). of course, artificial review first to avoid waste of time. if it *is* identified, then it gets flagged as "potential content theft" (P) but if not it's noted as "unlikely content theft" (U) next, the first report checks when the video was uploaded and compared it to the upload date of the stolen video. if the stolen video was uploaded after, it is set as a "high-priority report" (H) which is sent over for manual review BEFORE the "low-priority report" (L) is sent (low-priority if the stolen video as uploaded BFORE, for instance a youtube upload of a stream if it's a legitemate claim) the order of importance goes PH, PL, UH, UL naturally, the priority system will need to be made known to ensure it is used properly and help understanding on the reporter's side please add to this and i will edit my comment to make it known!

More people should watch darkvipers series on reaction content. It goes into great depth showing the harm reactions are doing and the brain dead steamers that take advantage of it.
I think the best way to fix the stolen content problem is to do what vtubers or YMS does and simply not show what they're reacting to on-screen and make the viewer pull up the original video separately so they get the ad Revenue also
One Solution: Implement a system in which youtubers (or streamers or whatever) can react to videos, but the views of the reaction video go to the original video
For Example: When you watch a video you have a button that shows a list of streamers or youtubers who reacted to it and you can enable there cams and there sound
That's still not enough it means the person won't get the sub and same interactions they would if ppl watched their vid normally A person is a lot less likely to watch more content from the original creator if they watched it through another person And that would just make for a shitty TH-cam experience anyway since everything would just be reaction content and only they will get recommended Wich means a normal TH-camr just has to hope some big TH-camr reacts to them to get views
But what if the youtuber reacts to several diffent videos in one video it could get abused cause they get most of their revenue from ads. I think What they actually can do is to copyright strike the ones that fully steal someone content and nothing else. Like august the duck
Personally, the reason I watch reaction content is to re-experience something vicariously. Once you watch something, you can't ever experience it for the first time ever again. It's why I love first-timer's playthroughs and those reaction videos, it allows me to relive experiencing it again. ...And because I enjoy hearing others opinions. Learning how others may feel about something with their own eyes fascinate me. Seeing all those people who don't provide any imput to the content, who purely use it as a means for more attention or money, and who don't even credit the original author, is quite disgusting. And I can hope this might change... But I have been more pessimistic towards the future lately, so I don't have much confidance.
5:09 I think most folks already have seen said content and are expressly looking for others reaction and perspectives. Maybe that's not true for the mega big channels, but for the thousands of smaller react channels this is certainly the case and the people going there are existing fans of that content
The fact TH-cam shoves Reactors like SSSniperwolf down our throats while bullying more enjoyable reactors like Charmx off the platform speaks volumes as to what type of ‘reactor’ TH-cam & social media companies want representing the genre.
In regards to Cr1tikal/Charlie, while I definitely have my issues with him regarding padding out content and his "reaction"-type stuff, I can acknowledge a couple of things. 1. He now really only gives commentary on smaller videos or recordings instead of larger projects that he used to watch in their entirety on stream (for example, LEMMiNO videos). While some say he never stopped doing reaction content (which is at least partially true), I personally believe that he has improved in regards to stealing views from high-effort creators. 2. He does quite a few other things besides reaction content/commentary. Sadly it's still usually what gives him the most views, but he also posts reviews, tier lists, music videos, and occasionally other "challenge"-style videos that give a good amount of variety to the channel. Whether or not you like his style of humor or think his monotonous voice is torture or a funny quirk, I don't think it's too difficult to acknowledge he does significantly more than the bare minimum. 3. ...Which leads me to my last point, that being that he's nowhere near as bad as creators like xQc or Sssniperwolf when it comes to reaction content (and yes I realize that's an extremely low bar). When he watches a video, he at least gives commentary that I feel adds to the humor and meaning of the original. I still find myself going back to some of his older "reaction"-style videos to things like Killer Bean, a movie/series which I would argue would not be nearly as popular now without him. Again, the dude has flaws in his content. Quite a few. I just feel that saying he hasn't changed in 5 years or that he's just as bad as other reaction creators that I've already mentioned is missing the full context. He stands out to me, at least a little bit.
Charlies fans doing the craziest mental gymnastics to try to prove he is different than other reaction streamers (he is not). All his yt videos are just cuts of his stream that conveniently are cut down to 8 minutes, yet he says he doesnt care about the money
@@soumaiseu2470 "All of his TH-cam videos are just cuts of his stream" - Okay, one, a lot of creators do that, not just reaction creators. And most of them also cut it down to eight minutes. And two, if you looked up his channel for two seconds, you would find that they quite literally are not all that. He has a podcast, he just did a food tier list, he did a review recently, he played a game, one of his most recent "reaction videos" is under 7 minutes. "He did not stare at a TH-cam video for 10 minutes without saying anything. If you don't like the guy's content or style there's nothing wrong with that, but don't just make up false info just to back up your bias.
1:10 this who reaction base content has been around since 2007. I remember seeing people reacting to Gyrohedgie or other sonic fans content. this isn't new, it had just evolved and adapted over the past 15 years on youtube.
Every single year Jack reinvents himself and firmly reconfirms my feeling that he is my favorite youtuber of all time. He somehow always stays "in his lane" but at the same time I can never predict what he'll do next, creatively, and "playing bingo on stream to expose and raise awareness about SSSniperWolf's freebooting and shady tactics" was definitely not on my list this year. I would've guessed "shrek 5 animation" or something.
We're in a time where it's hard to be with (or don't have) a crowd to react with, so we ask for someone to broadcast the thing we want to watch. Unsurprisingly, there will be times where it reaches the mainstream, and you'll know it's mainstream when you see others exploiting the trend for attention.
The youtube channel that does reaction content the absolute best is corridor crew. I am genuinely surprised that more people aren't talking about their format and way of reacting
9:00 well if we had a system where all the creators get a cut, the "reaction" creator wouldn't have the insentive to just add a clip in the vid to pad it out because by that point the "reaction" creator would have to share even more
I thought """reaction"""" channels went the way of the dodos already, smh 😔. It's only good if the original creator made the work specifically for the reactors, imo. Like in their own subreddit.

This. That's a very good point that people don't take seriously for some reason
@@noah735 he often talks about how not many will actually understand everything or will really care at all
@@mopilok yeah, the whole series is a bit much for a casual view. You'd have to REALLY give a shit about it if you want to fully understand, though even then you'd probably forget a few important points.
it's important in that is a genuinely bad argument
"stealing impressions" can be said about literally all content that you do not like, including his own. unless you say that his videos are the most deserving ever, which they 100% arent, the argument simply falls apart as it is both way to broad of an idea that can be applied to literally everything, but also because it's not very educated, it is assuming that everyone who watches react content would still be on the site watching other things if there wasnt react content, which is simply false (counts triple for when its on a different platform)
react content is a nuanced topic, theres a lot of issues that are actually symptoms of other issues and a lot of things that arent well understood, but making genuinely bad arguments like this is an easy way to get people to not care about what you say and to disagree

No matter how much input you add in the " reaction " if you reuploaded the
the whole original video or at least re-upload " The heart of the content " that's doesn't make it under fair-use.
*Signs of good reaction content*:
- Lots of discussion outside of the actual video reaction (not padded out, but actual valid discussion)
- Reaction camera is bigger than the reaction video screen itself. (Renegades React Channel for instance does this well)
- Reaction video is done a few days after the original video was released, giving it time to accumulate views with the Algorithm. (This way, a big channel uploader and a big channel reactor both can get sufficient views, Asmongold and The Act Man for instance made an agreement on this)
This also allows smaller creators that don't go noticed by the Algorithm to gain further views thanks to the reaction by a bigger channel.
- Full credit is given to the original creators, bonus points if their channels are actually shown edited into the video itself and given a proper shoutout. (not just a simple link in the description)
An apt analysis 👍
Just like wrath2501
@@alexandromarlin2620hey I watch him too
More signs:
- permission granted from the creator
- the entire video is uploaded so that the viewer feels prompted to watch the whole thing on the original channel
"(not just a simple link in the description)"
And yet people still fail to do this
Legal Eagle has a really good video about this from a legal standpoint.
Not to mention absolutely murdering XqC in calling him a bumbling idiot
Xqc then proceeds to show evidence that contradicts legal Eagle and shut him up 😂
If your reaction reinforces the point of the original video it's not transformative.

Shoutout to DarkviperAU for really exposing the harm of react content to the platform

Holy shit, you're completely right.

Your reasoning is correct, but most people don't watch the content their streamer is reacting to, themselves. I think it's just parasocialism - like how you wanna watch videos with friends.

Or just dont watch the reaction video.
Or you know create your own fucking shit instead of reacting?
that picture in picture sounds like it would be more useful to sidestep copy-right on streams, the streamer has the option to make an embedded youtube window(ad free btw) to watchers so that x music plays on youtube while none of it is in the actual stream to avoid strikes
but a deal has to be made if twitch implements this

At least, not for me
he also has 2-3 podcasts, an esports team, and 2 comic book series. the man is living the best life
Same. He doesn't show the entirety of its content as well, still on safe grounds imo even Charlie himself against these type of reactions. fr.

E
The blindwave is a perfect example how a reaction channel SHOULD be done
- reacters cameras are way bigger than the thing they are reacting and is the main focus
- providing genuine expressions and reaction of what they are watching
- keeping track of what they found the most entertaining in the media they are reacting
- doesn't show the entire thing, only tiny tidbits of what they think the viewers may find interesting
- making the reacted media vaguely visible so only people that already watch the full thing can keep up with it
- AND the biggest of them all, doesn't end the video the moment the media they are reacting ends, and provided post-react commentary of what they think about it
A lot of big react content creators barely even make it past stage 1
I think it's very telling that when smaller youtube channels do reaction content, they have the video that they're watching shrunken down in the corner of the screen. Where as most big name streamers and youtubers that do reaction content have their *facecam* shrunken down in the corner of the screen.

Hunter is an outstanding animator but also outstandingly witty, love that bumbling boy

One exception I'll make is for people like Marcomeatball because his reaction actually have depth in explaining the music he is listening to
Indeed, he’s an opera singer who can talk in detail about the composition and the choices made when making the songs.

"When I talk, the audience gets bored."
Did not expect a lowly gta 6 voice actor to start this series of events
I’m watching this video with a Miguel O’Hara watching himself on a different dimension face

I only read the last paragraph and it made me laugh so hard, also very sad cuz it’s true
There was a channel by the name of Juliet Reacts: her content intrigued me because she would edit down the videos immensely so they would only contain the bits where she provides her thoughts regarding the movie or show she was reacting to.
The good kind of reaction content is where experts in a certain field react to content regarding that field and provide meaningful insight and commentary, case in point Corridor Crew

quick easy system i thought of in 5 seconds:
allow a report on stolen content (fairly certain it already exists) BUT there's a box where you attach a link to the video that was stolen (an optional timestamp if only one part of the video was stolen).
of course, artificial review first to avoid waste of time. if it *is* identified, then it gets flagged as "potential content theft" (P) but if not it's noted as "unlikely content theft" (U)
next, the first report checks when the video was uploaded and compared it to the upload date of the stolen video.
if the stolen video was uploaded after, it is set as a "high-priority report" (H) which is sent over for manual review BEFORE the "low-priority report" (L) is sent (low-priority if the stolen video as uploaded BFORE, for instance a youtube upload of a stream if it's a legitemate claim)
the order of importance goes PH, PL, UH, UL

I think the best way to fix the stolen content problem is to do what vtubers or YMS does and simply not show what they're reacting to on-screen and make the viewer pull up the original video separately so they get the ad Revenue also
One Solution: Implement a system in which youtubers (or streamers or whatever) can react to videos, but the views of the reaction video go to the original video
For Example: When you watch a video you have a button that shows a list of streamers or youtubers who reacted to it and you can enable there cams and there sound
I was thinking the same thing, only issue is that google would probably never add it to TH-cam
That's still not enough it means the person won't get the sub and same interactions they would if ppl watched their vid normally
A person is a lot less likely to watch more content from the original creator if they watched it through another person
And that would just make for a shitty TH-cam experience anyway since everything would just be reaction content and only they will get recommended Wich means a normal TH-camr just has to hope some big TH-camr reacts to them to get views
Sounds interesting on paper, but it sounds like an absolute nightmare to actually create.
Many people online got little to no social interaction. Perhaps that's why reaction content are so successful

@dogg9444 not much, just that he thinks reaction content is like SA. minor stuff like that
In regards to Cr1tikal/Charlie, while I definitely have my issues with him regarding padding out content and his "reaction"-type stuff, I can acknowledge a couple of things.
