As an english major with a concentration in literature i am reading 3-5 books at once so this really helps! i listen to it while i get ready for my day :)
I tried to start this book but found the style so difficult to get into gear. This audio has truly helped to get me going. Thanks!
POV: you have to write a book report on Monday so you listen on ×2 speed.
Who do you take me for? A procrastinator? It is due on Friday and I'm listening to it on 1.5x
My final is tomorrow and is over this book and I am listening at 2x speed!
This video has been a life saver for managing reading in high school; thanks!
Good, I'm not the only one
@@whachamacallit5864 same lol
Of course I read this in high school as probably everybody else in America did. Now, many decades later, I appreciate the message and the story so much more. I am listening to this as I just read an article published in 8/31/21 in The Atlantic Magazine called 'The New Puritans' written by Anne Applebaum. Chilling. Do read the article and then listen to this novel.
This is the best free audiobook I have found of this book! Impressively well-read. Thank you!
Anybody else blast through this on x2 speed in one day???
Doing it now
couldn't understand it on 2x, had to go 1.5
1.5 is best
Genuinely wondering if the writing is similar to the way people might have spoke in the 1850's, or if writers always felt the need to cram paragraphs of undefined b.s into a book. Then sprinkle some sentences of actual plot somewhere in the mix.
Nevermind, book was pretty good.
Alright. Had too re-read it because I forgot to annotate. As upset as I am because of that. The book was worth the read. 👍. Truly amazing.
this is the greatest character arch of all time
who wouldve thought this gem to be in a scarlet letter audiobook. simply amazing.
@@danielugirne7122 i stopped annotating for the last five chapters. theyll never know.
I did not like reading this book because I couldn’t appreciate the storyline with the old English, but listening to it made it so much easier and I actually enjoyed it this is a sad book tho 🥺
The English in this is more Victorian, I think. For reference, Shakespeare (1500s) was Early Modern English, and we can sort of understand it. But old english (500s-1200s) would need translation--Like Beowulf. It would sound more like german and look something like, "Hwæt. We Gardena in geardagum, þeodcyninga, þrym gefrunon, hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon..." (I just copy pasted that I have no clue what it says.)
It’s not a storyline or story but a play by play of corrupt government
Get out your dictionary
Thank you, Corey Samuel, for an elegant and charming reading of this great work.
loved this book so much! listened while sewing a dress and avoiding writing the final thesis... really think what she did a smart move by sleeping with the priest, if he would be a woodcutter or blacksmith he would do the same but with no remorse
can you elaborate more because i love your point
I fell in love with this work when assigned in my junior year of H.S. 1975. It has enriched my life.

Sgorbackor McGlurg I my not like this book so far, but I can respect it.
Bad taste and bad grammar always seem to go hand in hand
Too many teenyboppers on here hating on this beautiful classical piece of literature! If you only knew the deep symbolism and real life themes that are held within the pages! It remains one of the books I most enjoyed reading in high school.
its ass theres a reason why no one reads this shit anymore, its out dated!!! 1984 is better
@@Cesar-th8hq fuck is 1984?
@Robyn Ballew as a teen reading this in high school I hated the beginning only because it was so difficult for me to read on paper, but once I switched to the audiobook I really enjoyed listening to it it’s so sad 🥺
@@Cesar-th8hq 1984 is good in its own rite. I love a good dystopian novel. Which is more entertaining to you is your own call, of course. As far as no one reading The Scarlet Letter anymore, clearly that’s not the case as you’re here as well as many others.
The book itself is extremely dry and boring as all hell. The way the writing is formatted is very difficult for children nowadays to under.
This book is so boring bro. I’m only doing this for school
What other reason would you be listening to this audiobook for?
I feel that bro
I agree. I just wanna read it because it's considered a classic and I want to impress my English teacher. I hope this book doesn't take as much willpower to read as Frankenstein

What I don’t get is why Pride and Prejudice (written before 1800, published in 1815) is so much easier to read/follow than works from 50 years later…
I think because the author was trying to make it sound as though it were written in the mid 1600s. But that being said I found it more difficult than Shakespeare

New generation, as the generations go on and on. The book probably becomes harder to understand. Making it extremely boring.
@@danielugirne7122 What I found tedious and boring about it when I was in school, is that there seemed to be a narrator telling you everything that is happening, but very little dialogue between the characters. I found that boring.

Christ, early American literature sucks. It's full of colonialism, slavery apologetics, sexist tropes and it is so boring just in general. I can only really stand Fredrick Douglass. He's cool. The audiobook almost convinces me that I'm listening to something cool but then I stop and wait a minute and realize that it's exactly the sort of thing that tragically turns people away from books, sadly.
you can’t expect books from the past to match our current moral standards
@@save_bandit It's more that it's being taught now uncritically. That, and the fact that people knew colonialism, slavery, sexism etc all sucked even at the time, but they had their voices muted and were denied spots in the "canon". Weird that.
