Before he moved in the previous owner would of modern it up so that the house would definitely have a shitter upstairs or downstairs or both. I am 83 years old (1939). I remember very well my parent's flat in 1949. Those 10 years were the happiest of my childhood. I understand and salute him for recreating a past that he finds offers peace and contenment.
It should be noted that between 1939 and 1945, WW2 was in progress. My dad was deaf in one ear and was not accepted for military service. I didn't lose him during the war. Not the case for many other kids of my age. I also had a serious operation back then that could have been avoided if penicillin had been available.
But the point of the gentleman's exercise is to create an atmosphere of what could have been had the death and distruction of the war had not occurred. So, live your dream my friend. I hope you are still living in your alternate reality.

I'm a 20 year old who was always interested into 1960s-1970s music and vehicles... and when I asked my father in 2021 about our 3 storey house's age, he said 1971. My mother's birth year. This made me realise my love for the 1970s will never go away.
Conclusion: No matter how you live your life, it's lovely.

I'm very interested in the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s too but only up to the early 1970s, things got depressing after around 1973 for me at least.

TBH, of all the fashions of the 20th century, I prefer the "optimism and modernity" of the 1950s, or the Art Deco of the 1920s. Both prosperous and (unreasonably) idealistic takes on reality; both looking to the future with optimism. (If the 1920s only knew!)

He was speaking straight up facts at the end too, we have definitely lost something in this age of technology where everyone talks on social media sights instead of a simple old conversation over the fence with your neighbor, people used to be an actual community back in the day and that spirit seems to have completely gone in a lot of places.

What a good guy, actually talks a lot of sense especially about how fast advancements are moving in these modern times. I’m a firm believer life changed for the worse after we hit 2000, I mean in the long run in terms of children today glued to devices and not being as physically interactive with their pals playing football in the streets and things like that, this guy found a time he loves and wants a simple life huge respect to him
