    They forgot that a very important part of the success of the original movie was fashion. Amazing goth fashion + great defined and interesting characters who had strong conflicts each one of them + goth attitude reflected in their daily lives + a vibe that made, you wanna be there. I really don't think I would wanna be a part of this new coven it looks weak and kinda boring too. :(

      @@thegillmanedits goth/gothic is kinda expected with witchcraft but not a rule, except this is a sequal so I would hope to see a resemblance. The original characters had individual problems wheras these new girls don't get much screen time to even show any side of them. But that is wanting the original movie?

    • @thegillmanedits
      @thegillmanedits 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@DeadPalooza Goth does not equate to witchcraft. The bulk of witch movies have nothing "goth" in them. What are you on about? I'm sorry, but if you can't see that the girls were not the focus of the movie but Lilly was then I don't know what to tell you. And, yes, wanting them to each have individual issues to use craft against is wanting the same thing again. They made a point to have them basically be level-headed and responsible so that they could flip the formula from the first one. Pretty deliberate and obvious move.

    The original The Craft had magic that was believable, this one has Harry Potter type magic.

    • @zavd.r.3638
      @zavd.r.3638 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      On some level everything that happened in the OG craft could be done without magic.
      Chris was known to prey on highschool girls, and did to sarah, while she believed that he was under a spell.
      When the electricity exploded coincidentally as Nancy was, the scare shocked ray into cardiac arrest, and naturally they inherited his assets.
      Bonnies treatments were "experimental" as well as painful, and many scientific breakthroughs are due to this experimentation, thus Bonnie's chemical peal left here with a new found confidence which turned into narcissistic behavior. Most of the time this is how it works, we are perceived how we want to be.
      Laura's hair was bleached heaviky to achieve that blonde and she would swim in chloroform everyday, so most likely had hair loss as chemical allergic reaction or burn.
      Nancy's glamour into Sarah's likeness could easily be done with modern make up, yes it was seemingly impossible, however we see this scene through the hazy vision of drunk chris, so this must be his perspective and hallucination.
      Also he was drunk when he fell out of the window, which is very common.
      And Sarah already suffered hallucinations that involved what she described as bugs, snakes, and rodents, which is why she moved in the first place, and most likely due to the fear of the coven this trauma was triggered and relived as the other girls plotted her death.
      Rochelle and bonnie imagine a horrific image of what could be their impending doom, through the reflection of a no lights staircase, illuminated by lightning. It's most likely their actions were creeping themselves out.
      And when Sarah faces off with Nancy they are both in a mental state where both are hallucinating for different reasons, sarah has lost lots of blood, and nancy was becoming more and more unstable up until that point, where she is institutionalized and properly bound from causing harm to herself or others.

But there was no need of a soft reboot or sequel. Let it stand on it's own two feet as the movie it is. No need to say "there was a good movie here".

  • @dionysoscub

    Chris, giving it a D is being generous. They basically did this film to capitalize off the ongoing popularity of the original and market it to millennials. The only film they SHOULD'VE made was the actual sequel with the original four actresses (all of whom are still actively working in film) that fans ACTUALLY WANTED to see.

    • @johnsmi213
      @johnsmi213 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the writer/director wanted to reboot the film and thought she'd be the perfect person (and had connections working as an actress) but when she sat down to write it, she realized she has no skills as a writer and we got what we got. Then she directed and had no skills as a director. She was just the wrong person to reboot it.

    • @johnsmi213
      @johnsmi213 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wolfhawk1999 You say "they" but it's not like it was written by a committee. It was an actress who decided she would write and direct the movie and apparently she felt it more important to do something pro-feminine and pro-diversity than to do something that honors the original.

    • @dionysoscub
      @dionysoscub 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@johnsmi213 I said "they" because I'm referring to Sony Pictures and Blum House, the studio and distribution companies behind this project who hired Zoe Lister-Jones to write & direct the movie. I've worked in the industry since the 1990s so I'm well aware that there aren't necessarily 'committees' that write a movie. But there is also a development department and a set of producers attached to a project who have it mapped out long before they've selected the writer/director. The only time this ISN'T the case is when you have A-level above-the-line talent like Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino who don't have to get a script approval from studios/producers in advance. And, considering that this was the "soft reboot/sequel" to an iconic 1990s cult hit with a massive following (which has been in development for the past few years btw), Lister-Jones wouldn't have gotten final cut on the project. This is often how quite a few films, despite the initial intentions of the filmmaker, have gotten significantly altered by the time the movie itself is released.

But the remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2003 and The Ring in 2002 are good examples of a good remake. The worst examples of remakes or reboots are ones that just copy like for like, like Psycho from 1998 or Carrie from 2013 that is just a shot for shot remake for a modern audience. Or another example of bad remakes or reboots are just cash grabs that don’t care for the original, like Black Christmas 2019, The Grudge 2020, The Craft: Legacy, Jacob’s Ladder 2019, Flatliners 2017 etc etc, the only reason those films get made is for easy money,

      @Nick Smith Political meanings have always been in films, the difference today is it’s in your face. But people need to understand that this “progressive” left wing movement is all manufactured to divide people. You might think I may sound like a conspiracy theorist but imo the people in power want to divide people as much as possible, they don’t want people getting along with each other. So what they do is create manufactured political movements in hope that stupid people will latch on to it so it can divide people. And because of Social Media it’s worked wonders for them. All this BLM and progressive left wing movement is all manufactured, same thing with Trump. People need to understand that politics is all theatre and none of it matters, until people understand that, we won’t move on and things will repeat themselves.

    What happened to movies just being fun? The first movie was great because it was fun, quirky, and had interesting characters. Nowadays, I feel like every time there is a movie with an entirely female main cast, the movie story has to have heavy social commentary as their backbone to move the story along. I don't mind movies with heavy social commentary as long as it is implemented very well, for example, BlacKkKlansman was a fantastic movie in my opinion because the story was interesting and developed characters very well. Black Christmas, The Craft Legacy, and many others miss the mark. These movies are more worried about preaching a socio-political message than they are making a fun movie like the original or the first movie was.

      In fact, I'm pretty sure it is. What I don't like Cris's criticism, is that he is mild when he shouldn't. Most of the films produced today in Hollywood are mere ideological propaganda. It is impossible not to see a pattern, being followed, film after film, remake after remake. Racist and sexist propaganda, especially against whites, men and Christians. Not unlike the anti-Jewish propaganda of the Nazi period, or anti-black, of the early 20th century. It is the explicit demonization of entire groups and the murderous solution, more than explicit. And make no mistake, they are saying exactly what they would like to do in reality. And even more, making open mentions to real people. Cris wakes up, to turn a blind eye to this kind of stupidity, simply for fear of generating "controversy". After all, it is part of any kind of authentic artistic criticism, taking into account elements like this, and not masking them.
