Looks Similar to Capoeira
There are differences when you’ve tried both - but they look very similar!
Everything comes from Índia. Kenpo the mother of all martial arts. Capoeira was develop by the Black slaves in Brazil and they played as a dance to avoid problems at the 'Senzalas' with their owners. Though the rythm is different. Oss! Hai!

good point. certainl moves like spinning back kicks aren't good opening moves because so easily telegraphed, but used as a follow up to certain quick attacks in which you can then flow into launching the kick, especially if opponent is staggered or off balance, can make for great combos, but important to remember that combos are situational and should be used carefully with good timing

Lol 😂 however Brazilians didn’t create they were taught by a Japanese sensai however he was a judoka and jujitsuka the Brazilians focused on takedowns and submitting grappling techniques chokes joint manipulation while judo focuses more on throws while real aka authentic Japanese jujitsu has striking on par with karate judo throws takedowns and chokes and joint locks etc judo and bjj are just certain aspects of Japanese jujitsu. Capoeira is capoeira but it’s good to see similarities bc it proves others had a similar idea. Keep training keep learning find out what works and what doesn’t ✊🏾

The Brazilians didn't create anything they were taught Japanese jiu-jitsu and pawned it off as their own. Which in turn created a battle against Triple J and BJJ with Triple J winning

All martial arts have a creator - someone who trained in multiple other martial arts and combined what worked for their body (& temperment) into a brand new style. This is the journey of every martial artist, but many do not realize it and thus never reach their destination (a way of fighting that is their own). Taido is well suited for someone small but strong in their legs, as it tries to offer no target by being quick/elusive and relies heavily on kicking. Anyone on their martial arts journey who is like this (small but strong) should definitely try Taido.
If Jiu Jitsu guys made a striking martial art I’d imagine it would look like this 😂

@@flowrepins6663 Nah taido was created in the 19th century while capoeira was first mentioned in the 17th century under the name "Capoeiragem" and was considered a crime due to it being practiced by slaves. They are very different though with capoeira being more of blend between dancing and martial arts.

Try Angola kipura(capoeira). Most of what I’ve seen is just what we’ve been doing for years. What your missing is the rhythm and angular attacks!

Yes. Some of the circular movements look like Brazilian capoeira. Some the back and ground kicks look like pencak silat from Indonesia.

Taido is a martial art that was announced in 1965 by Shukumine Seiken,
which was based on the Genseiryu Karate, which was created in 1953.

I took Nanbudo karate and met one of the few living masters left. This was in the late 80s. Master Megmueller was my sensai.

I would LOVE to learn more martial arts outside of Karate. I want to experience more, but I only have so many studios in my area (plus there’s fees)
Its actually similar to Capoeira & Pencak Silat.
To anyone saying it's not gonna work, as a karate green belt with 4 years experience it's actually really going to help in a fight, fuck its even necessary, most of the fights are non stop close contact and grabbing, trying to put someone on the floor.
This martial art seems like the best moves for a person who got knocked on the floor.
So it's like a Japonese version of Capoeira? Feel free to impotent some of our movements to help positioning for the kicks, if you think it would help. Oh! And break dancing would make a good compliment, really bring out your style and flow.

Nice nice Jesse. I do the same sometimes when I training even I'm not a famous person. I have learn and understand that you can use combination of moves to see which work to hit your opponent.
So it's basically Japan's revenge on Capoera for what Brasilians did to Jujitsu.
My 3 year old is a master of this!

I like some of the kicks, putting ALOT of body into it, like the horse kick type ones. Seems like there's a little you can pick out and apply

Very similar style from Korea called Hwarangdo.
I remember an old Kung Fu movie where the main villain with white hair used the same technique. Called it the ground kick. Nice to know it's real.
A lot of this feels like capoeira. Apparently Taido hasn’t been around very long. It makes me wonder if Japan didn’t just bring jiujitsu to Brazil, but if perhaps someone brought capoeira back to Japan in the process. There is a massive Japanese-Brazilian population.

The book jeet kune do goes into the science of misdirection ,interception, stagger attack,stop block, range selection , cadence i found the knowledge very useful

I took a style created by an American guy who grew up in Japan his entire life and barely spoke English (I took JKA Shotokan as a child, so I understand Engrish pretty well) it was called Jiyu Waza Te. It incorporated a lot of Freestlye sparring into a formal combination of Aikido and Kyokushin.
All of us studied a variety of styles, so when I threw Capoiera kicks into it, it made it all the more fun, especially for the kids who took gymnastics. That looks like a real fun style to practice and spar with.
So this is where Reina gets her kicks from

This looks like a mix of Tai Kwon Do and Capoeira with Aikido gear.
It's similar to this self.defense method from a few years ago called "guided chaos".

The telegraphing of those moves would cause your opponent to see your attacks yesterday.
I guess that the idea is, the first attack is seen coming in, but not the second one.
@@RoyalFizzbin it's just all offense, relying on the element of suprise to catch you off guard. It uses a lot of movement to deliver a blow, and you usually end up on the ground and just very exposed in general.
I don't think this will hold up at all at higher levels. The opposing fighter will just keep distance until you lose momentum. Taido's stamina will run out pretty quickly, from all that tumbling and getting back up every time.
Also, I don't see much prodding going on, like a jab would do, or just lifting the knee to threaten a front kick. So you're really just betting it all on the attack. This may very well be, that those moves don't really show off the style, so you wouldn't put them in a video.

Well, when you look the founder of the art of Taido named Shukumine Seiken, also founder of Genseiryū Karate and then look up spreading his fighting art in the early 1960s in countries outside Japan such as USA and Spain for example all the way to "Brazil" only to find there's a cutoff in between that time and then in 1965, Seiken developed Taido. ...Can you sort of connect the dots there let alone logically fill in the blanks?

It just seems like Japan's answer to capoeira. I mean, they are heavy in Brazil as it is.
Light sparring, You need more speed than power. People also use a left hook to disguise a spinning back kick. That might work with the shrimp kick

Apparently I'm self taught in taido. I practice all kinds of martial arts use them in MMA. I do Parkour as well. Taido is just MMA mixed with Parkour lol something I have been doing since I first watched Jackie Chan when I was young.

I guess it’s like riding a bike in a sense. You can’t use the right and left pedals one at a time. In order to stay upright, you need to keep them continuously moving.

I've always wondered where the inspiration for some of Yoshimitsu's moves came from.
I remember the first time i heard about Tiedo. An article i think in Karate Illustrated. That was the early to mid 70s its a relitivly new art. Viewing this vid i see over time it has developed and evolved. I would like to see how it fares in a full contact match and street applications.
