1982 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE w126 - the base S-class

In September 1979, the new-generation S-Class was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. While its predecessor still sported expansive chrome ornamentation, the 126 model series strode onto the automotive stage in a decidedly less ostentatious manner. The body design underscored the engineers‘ efforts to significantly improve the car’s efficiency. Lower weight, improved drag, and fuel-efficient engines made it possible to reduce fuel consumption by up to 10% compared to the predecessor model. This Mercedes-Benz 280 SE is from the first series and is powered by the six-cylinder engine m110 with two overhead camshafts and a mechanical injection system. The engine is sporty in its characteristics and harmonizes perfectly with the 4-speed manual transmission.

The W126 is, I think, the most beautiful Mercedes there was at that time. But these classic and elegant lines still enchant me even 40 years later, drive yourself in Champanger Metallic and every time one of the doors closes, with this unmistakable sound, then immediately have a smile in the face

MY IMPRESSION:
Throughout my youth I knew when I saw one of these the owner had to be a wealthy entrepreneur. In my eyes Mercedes was as royal as Rolls Royce. All the nighttime TV dramas featured this car for the rich people. This vehicles design is a work of art that looks strong and powerful.

This was when Mercedes was a world class car of impeccable build quality, handling, and luxury. They had the finest leather, perfect door seam fitment, the best ride and handling of any luxury car. They also didn't try to sell their cars to anyone working at McDonalds
Today Mercedes has gone cheap and makes cars for $379/month lease and cheap plastic on the dash

The Mercedes W116,that then became the W126 were/ are the most elegant cars, of the fleet, if you got any model, that means that you are somebody important, in society, sometimes they even had the limousine version.

My father had the same car, same engine, colour and alloy wheels. I remember him racing a Saab 9000 in it and being impressed with the performance of this lowly model. He moved to the 420 afterwards which was even better to drive, but absolutely terrible on fuel.

من بعد 1990 بدأت مرسيدس بنز تتدهور تصاميمها حتى باتت عاجزة عن إنجاز أيقونات رائعة كالتي تم صنعها في عام 1990 فما قبلها كانت سيارات ولا زالت عالقة في ذاكرتنا وهذا ليس تقليلا من شأن الشركة فهي تنتج سيارات بتقنيات خارقة ومتطورة إلا أنها مع كل هذا لم تستطع أن تلفت الأنظار مثل تلك في القرن الماضي.
وهذا الكلام ينطبق أيضا على سائر العلامات المميزة والمشهورة كجنرال موتورز ومجموعة فورد وبي أم دبليو وهكذا وما الجاكور بأفضل حال منهم حتى صرنا نرى هذه العلامات الشهيرة لا تختلف عن مثيلاتها الكوريات مع تقديرنا الشديد للصناعة الكورية فقد أثبتت نفسها في سوق السيارات بجدارة واحترام بل غدت هذه العلامات الشهيرة كالصينيات التي هي حديثة العهد في هذا المجال.
أرجو أن تقبلوا النقد البناء لأنني ببساطة إلى هذه اللحظة مثلا لم أجد سيارة مرسيدس بتقنياتها المتطورة تستطيع أن تجاري مثلا مرسيدس من فئة S في حقبة الثمانينات تحياتي لكم.
