How realistic is it to make a whole ahh facility for testing one engine that too had its funding reduced? It's practical to use existing foreign facilities but once kaveri engine matures and DRDO focuses more on new engines be it jet engines or marine engine then indian government can think on building test facility I will suggest in collaboration with ISRO for engine testing and development
We can't remove GE 404 in the current Tejas MK1A order(97+83), but when the half-life servicing occurs and it needs a new engine, we can definitely make a decent Kaveri then( 52KN + 85KN with around 1 Tonne weight)

The current system in DRDO is a product management system where there are more managers (Babus) than scientist. With upcoming changes bought by Modi Gov in the structure, there is still a hope that we will get a pure research based organisation in lines with DARPA. If that happens, more and more cutting-edge research will happen in India itself and probably solve a lot of issues.
DRDO/GTRE is a government organisation. It's employees stick to 9 to 5 job, observe all possible holidays i.e. National, State and local. They are more busy in discussing remunerations like Basic pay,TA, DA, LTC, Promotion etc. 90% employees "come & go" just for attendance. Many of them are engaged in real estate side-business. There is NO professional approach by these employees. They are just "Time Pass" government employees. No target, no dedication, no efforts, no hardwork, no achievement, no tension and hence no results. They enjoy safe, secure and well paid job. Nothing to expect from this organisation. The said announcement is just a propaganda. Highly risky to fly in aircrafts fitted with these engines. We are exposing our IAF pilots to life risk.

Let's say we certify the Kaveri with AB. The problem then would be to increase the AB thrust to atleast 120% of F404IN20. With F404's current pressure ratio of 28:1, there will be a need to greatly modify our AB and even the dry Kaveri to get significantly more thrust. Even if AB adds 30kN extra, an ideal 82kN on Kaveri won't be ideal as with the time and improvements made on Tejas, it may require 87-89kN for better performance. Add to this further weight reduction practice that requires much more funds. In all, Kaveri, even if readied with a new AB, will rather just be a desi alternative to F404 during re engine process without much difference in Thrust numbers...

They can start using engines without afterburner. Alternately use after burners of simple/standard design which may be inefficient but give lot of operational experience and time for improvements. If GoI is serious about this, they should buy an IL-76 test bed from Russia (won't be difficult as there are few countries willing to trade with them due to Ukraine war sanctions), release fund for 1-2 LCAs to be used by GTRE and expedite the whole testing and certification process for the afterburner section.
Rs. 2000 Crore investment and a couple of decades of time allotted is not "Cheap". It is not fund but lethargy found in most of the Govt. organisation is the root cause of unnecessary delays.

If they have any sense at all, they will put this engine in EVERYTHING - Tejas Mk1A, Tejas MK2, TEDBF, AMCA... because the experience will be invaluable and you don't really have and engine and you don't have a backup plan until you fly your own engine. Without experience with your own engine, you'll never be able to design a better engine. Aircraft loadout specs should be modified to be competent even with an underpowered engine.

Bharat waited for 6 months for testing. Bharat need to initiate procuring process of test bed to mitigate future delays in testing.

@smokey-ji this video mentioned that after burner will take 7 to 8 years more for production, if we can use Rd33 after burner we might be able to mass produce Kaveri dry engine and make use of it. We are already making Rd33 engines locally.

Alpha bhai, is there any discussion going on among our scientists and engineers community of GTRE regarding Kaveri-2.0 that will eventually replace GE-F414 with a better thrust?

2. Kaveri 2.0 = approx 95kn , (not more than 98kn , which is BASE MODEL of f414)
3. AMCA program (need a true next generation engine) which is 110kn (f16 engine)approx, 🤔 batter option for replace f414.

If GoI is serious about this, they should buy an IL-76 test bed from Russia (won't be difficult as there are few countries willing to trade with them due to Ukraine war sanctions), release fund for 1-2 LCAs to be used by GTRE and expedite the whole testing and certification process for the afterburner section.
As per information LCA needs 100 kn thrust.

Rs. 2000 Crore investment and a couple of decades of time allotted is not "Cheap". It is not fund but lethargy found in most of the Govt. organisation is the root cause of unnecessary delays.

@ALPHA DEFENCE can you plz say why are we not buying or even considering ear protection and communication intercoms , i have seen many videos of our indian army troops firing tanks or artillery without any ear protection we all know firing a artillery and a tank can cause severe hearing loss but still why our govt not thinking to buy these headset,except special forces or marcos i have not seen anyone use these protective gear , german army have ordered 400 million euros worth of ear protective and integrated communication system ,we should not focus on only bigger modernizations projects some low ground modernization are also imp. can you make a video on this topic in future ❤

If they have any sense at all, they will put this engine in EVERYTHING - Tejas Mk1A, Tejas MK2, TEDBF, AMCA... because the experience will be invaluable and you don't really have and engine and you don't have a backup plan until you fly your own engine. Without experience with your own engine, you'll never be able to design a better engine. Aircraft loadout specs should be modified to be competent even with an underpowered engine.
It seems our people are not really sure to develop our own engine. No primary development of infrastructure. It adds to fuel to fire.The news floated is half truth.
