I work for a big tech Company and one of its major locations is based in Indianapolis. I'm thinking of getting a transfer next year however I'm worried since I have no family or friends up there and choosing a place to live where I feel safe is critical... I basically rely on videos like this as reference/guidance. What would you say is a relatively safe area to rent..?
Hi there is 6 of us traveling from uk to Nashville but stopping of in Indianapolis for one night… we are booked into there’d roof Indianapolis east…. Is it safe for tourists any info would be great thanks.
Obviously a good topic to share. In the years past when I lived in Indy (1950 - 1979) and, the visits I did to Indy...I felt okay. (Probably because I use to be a very rapid walker, in my younger years) My last actual walk around downtown Indianapolis (April, 2007) was going to an Indianapolis Indians baseball game. It was okay. Very uncomfortable to almost all the good citizens of the city, and visiting folks like me is...the high crime rate and murders on Indy's east, west, and some of the south and northeast sides. Most folks that want the time abolished know well the many reasons for it and whose causing it. I hope it stops...at least slows way down. But...this high crime and murder is so very common to all the large cities in the U.S. as you have said, Jason. So...be careful where you go and stay out of the bad areas.
@@keyshawnscott12 I just moved to Indianapolis from Chicago proper. I begain to despise Chicago and they way it was run. Our quality of life is times 10 here. I do not miss anything........ Plus Indy has Lou Malnati's Pizza, Giordano's,, Yolk, Portillos, Kuma's Corner, and on and on. People are much nicer than all of Illinois in general. Not just a grass is greener on the other side. Indiana has exceeded our expectations.
@@keyshawnscott12 Most take conencting bus lines too. Chicago communtes suck unless you revolve your entire life constrained to the L. The system in Chicago is limited and a bit dangerous at times, oh the things I have seen taken place on the lines. Also, we live 2 min from downtown now in Indy. Everything in the city is about 12 min away. We can get to fishers in 25 min for just one example. I am the fastest on the interstates because of my Chicago ways. Chicago is so backwards. A city in NW Indiana, about 150 miles up I-65 from Indianapolis is NOT safe - Gary. You have a lot of interstates in Indianapolis. I-65, the main north-south route, connecting the city with Louisville, KY to the south, and the Chicago Metro to the northwest, I-70, the main east-west route, connecting to (eventual) St. Louis on the west, and Dayton/Columbus to the east. I-465, the bypass route, I-74, which connects the city with Cincinnati, and Champaign (Home of University of Illinois), running concurrent with 465, and I-69, which originally began on the NE side of town, but has been expanded, and a big construction project is being done to connect it to 465, so there will be a direct connection with Bloomington and Evansville, while the connection to Fort Wayne to the NE is already there.
I am curious about the Trader's Point area and Whitestown area? We are looking into moving to Indy and have watched your videos on Zionsville. But again, like you say, Zionsville is extremely expensive. Do most people who live in the Whitestown area shop and utilize the businesses in Zionsville?
Indianapolis is only dangerous when you're buying or selling drugs. I've lived here most of my life and it rarely crosses my mind that I could be a victim of a crime. I had more issues living in the surrounding suburbs. People there will pay attention to your routines and schedules and break into your house when you're at work.
Great topic and helpful for someone that just moved to the area. We actually moved right outside of the city, about 20 to 25 minutes because of what happened to us. We were looking at a house in Mars Hill subdivision and was told it was safe, well that very day of seeing the home for the first time, right around the corner of the subdivision a man is waving a gun in the air. It was my worst fear and we drove by quickly to the house, which was not what we expected. We got in and out and drived to any location other than Indianapolis. We actually ended up in Plainfield and we love it here. So our little serendipitous stop helped us find our now home. We are both still too nervous to go back into the city. We stay in Hendricks County and Boone County mostly right now.
You keep saying there are tons of people who along around as you walk along but in the video I barely see anyone. The streets look mostly empty with few people walking like you. Maybe because I am from NYC but this does not look like a very busy place to me from Your video.
@@ArianaHomeWrecks it was a typo and I didn’t feel like correcting it because it wasn’t that deep 💀 I walked that city yesterday and literally felt unsafe on certain blocks. In the inner-city no one should feel like that 🤣 Horrible city

I live downtown east side and I don't go anywhere at night especially the gas stations!! Whenever I gas up 8 do it in the day everyday I get asked for money and by mostly blacks and they have no problem coming up to u and sometimes in a group. But should I make part of my budget for them!? Uhh no so I've given money plenty but it comes to a point when u have to say no. Well then comes the danger ... I get called all kinda names and sometimes they get very pushy I have gone to gas stations very early morning when commuting to work and dark and even then it happens so I stay away at night unless I have to. I've gone to nearby dairy queen at 5pm and the doors were locked and one of the workers told me that someone inhe parking lot just got shot in the head and it was right there ! The cops hadn't arrived yet so I got outta there one time our block was surrounded and we were told to stay I'm and lock our doors because they were pursuing two guys that stole a car and we're running from them. So no some areas may be safe but some u don't even wanna drive thru
