I have just gotten into 40k and last night I was struggling hard using the app and I had the datasheet pdf open and it was too late to call my friend to help me out. This video is a god send to me right now.
@@mylifeontour6664 Yeah these "pen and paper" is all you need unless you're some sort of idiot people :D ...amazing they even go on this modern thing called "The Internet" huh.
FINALLY someone made a video like this! Every single how to play 40k / how to get into 40k either walks you through the phases or tells you about the factions. This is literally the first video I've found that tells you what you're actually supposed to DO with that information. As someone new to 40k but with a strong grasp on other types of games, I know what each thing does in its parts but don't know how to put it together. I know AP is good against armor and blast is good against large units, but I have no idea how important one or the other is and how much I should have of what.
Now this is one of the greatest videos for new players, and even vets, looking to get into 10th edition. Auspex is single-handedly carrying the GW 40k operations team for pennies on the dollar right now.
First ask yourself: "What do I do if [BLANK] happens?" of "What if my opponent brings [BLANK]?" Keep this question general. What will you do if a big super tough monster is stomping up field? What if there's a a load of infantry swarming over a point? What if close combat specialists are coming in? What if your enemy has loads of transports to ferry around their dudes and throw at you once that job is done? Next ask yourself: "How do I win?" Well, to win in 40k you need victory points. To get victory points you USUALLY have to capture and control objectives that are in the mid-field. You might also score victory points doing some other stuff usually related to moving somewhere and killing something specific immediately. Finally tell yourself: "No plan survives contact with the enemy." Start visualizing how the enemy serves you those minor defeats. Terminators teleporting in, Tyranids bursting from the ground. Snipers taking out an expensive character. Your one anti-monster / tank vehicle or squad getting identified and gunned down at range before it can bring down a tough foe. Always be asking: "And then what?" and "What happens next?". Keep your answers to these questions somewhat pessimistic.
I would say, don't stress about the list too much. Your army list will evolve over time once you learn how it plays and how you, as a general, like to approach the battle. And everyone likes buying new troops every once in a while, to try this instead of that. Don't worry about making it perfect.
One thing to note is I believe battlescribe is pretty much abandonware for 40k. It's uncertain if or when it will be properly updated to 10th edition, or so I've heard on a couple platforms.

For the Freeblade, it's one knight that's Questoris (Paladin, Galant, Rex, Preceptor, Errant, Crusader, Warden) or Dominus class (Valiant or Castellan, or instead of either of those, you can take 3 Armigers (Helverin or Warglaive). I just picked up my Leviathan box today and have been going through the rules book, and I can’t find any “spells” for Psykers or similar units. For example, my Black Templars used to have Litanies for Chaplains. And Space Marines had Librarians with Disciplines. I can’t find any Litanies or Disciplines. The only ones I can find are under a character or unit’s Abilities, and it’s usually just one. There are no other options! Did GW get rid of all choice of “spells” in 10e? Or is this temporary, and we need to wait for each factions’ codex for “spells” to added to the new edition? Is that what the Psychic Awakening was about in 9e?
It's how GW handles psykers in 10e now. In 9th, even with Psychic Awakening you could choose X abilities per psyker from a discipline list. In 10e there is no Psychic phase and most psychic abilities are treated as a weapon on the datasheet with the keyword psychic on it. @@SenecaRapson I know that the Psychic phase is gone in 10e but I didn’t think that all Psyker “spells” were gone. And that all seems fine to me. Removing the "choice" of spells makes it so people have to choose based on units instead. Besides, there wasn't all that much of a choice, some spells were clearly just better than others. Now by tying them to the model, they can "balance" around that one ability rather than a whole slew of them.
Mention: pick the best unit. Include it 3 times (6 times if battleline) or as many time as you actually have the models for that unit. If you don't have enough models to spam the max of that unit, get a 3D printer...

I find it funny how gw put their site into queing mode, did they really think people were going to buy up the worthless index cards, rules, and mission cards, that'll be updated 100times over...lol.
Neither the index cards nor mission cards are likely to get updated, and for what I care about from the rules, it's also not going to get updated without coming out in a separate book.
Some might, some might not. I've ordered index cards for 6 armies as it seems worth it for the convenience of not messing with pdf on phone or with crappy printed datasheets on standard paper. When they get outdated I'll just edit it on the cards, not really an issue

I really dislike the restrictive rules for squad sizes. I know GW is trying to simplify 10e, but the binary choice of minimum or maximize squad size is stupid. Not only does it cause needless frustrations for army list building and un-spent points to be wasted, but it’s causing problems for Transports. For example, I’m a Black Templars player and I want to use an Impulsor and/or Repulsor to transport certain units. The Impulsor has a capacity of 6 (standard) models and the Repulsor has 12 models. In 9e, I used to load an Impulsor with 5 Bladeguard Veterans and a Chief Apothecary, rush them to a mid-field objective, and camp there for the entire game, being virtually impossible to shift. But 10e’s rules force me to take either 3 or 6 Bladeguards, and an Apothecary can’t lead Bladeguards. I either have to take only 3 Bladeguards and a Bladeguard Ancient or Lieutenant or Captain as Leader, or take 6 Bladeguards and no leader, to fit them in the Impulsor. For the Repulsor, I used to load 10 Sword Brethren and 1 or 2 HQ/Support units to fill the 12 slots. Grimaldus is accompanied by 3 servitor models, so he couldn’t fit in the Repulsor with 10 SBs, but that was ok in 9e because he didn’t have to be attached to the SB unit as the leader; I could Advance him up the board and catch up to Sword Brethren in a turn or two. But I can’t do that in 10e because Grimaldus must be attached to the Sword Brethren squad to grant his 5+ Feel No Pain. I don’t think Grimaldus can fit into the Repulsor with 11 Sword Brethren because Grimaldus’ unit composition lists his model and 3 servitor models; that would be 15 models, and the Repulsor can only hold 12. That might fly in a friendly game, but I don’t think it would be legal in a GW tournament… unless GW releases a FAQ clarifying this. Regardless, the min-max squad sizes are needlessly restrictive! It’s especially frustrating because the new WH40K App makes us increase the models in a squad in increments of 1 - instead of min or max squad size options - and it doesn’t automatically adjust the wargear quantities to match the number of models. These kind of annoyances are why WH40K players didn’t use the old WH40K app! It doesn’t seem like GW has learned their lesson from 9e.
@@dekai7992 Paying points for models that aren’t on the table isn’t something that ANY WH40K player wants to do. Every point is precious, and there are countless units that aren’t considered competitive because of their points cost, so wasting points on models that can’t be played is inconceivable.
GW made this extremely confusing for new players. "now you must choose your detachment.... from a list of one choice" it makes new players think they have to go looking for all the different detachments and learn them all when in reality they don't have a choice. Also factions and armies are the same thing?? Just use one word.
My opinion its a Crap app. Someone needs to take on BS and give it some love, tjw owner needa to move on or someone needa to build a BS 2 and give that the flag to move on to.
God I hope the Canis Rex spam thing doesn't become legit. I can't stand named characters in games at the best of times, let alone one whos obviously a shoe horn in *purely* for meta.
I actually like the stratified interaction between infantry, vehicles/monsters, characters, battle-shock, and objective control. It's rather clever, design-wise. I hope they can keep it intact over the course of the edition.

It doesn’t seem like GW has learned their lesson from 9e.
battle sisters in 9th could be anywhere between 5 and 20, now its just 10
You can still take only 5 models from a 6-model slot. You're still paying points for 6, though.
@@dekai7992 Paying points for models that aren’t on the table isn’t something that ANY WH40K player wants to do. Every point is precious, and there are countless units that aren’t considered competitive because of their points cost, so wasting points on models that can’t be played is inconceivable.
@@reavern I know that. I was just pointing out a technically possible option.
5 lion el Johnson’s. Nothing else
Wait, does this mean I can finally play hero hammer and still be a legal list :,)
im gonna say it.....
use excel to track and build your army
👍🏻
Shout-out to all those players making their lists in Excel like me.
GW made this extremely confusing for new players. "now you must choose your detachment.... from a list of one choice" it makes new players think they have to go looking for all the different detachments and learn them all when in reality they don't have a choice. Also factions and armies are the same thing?? Just use one word.
So 500 points is gone
Yes but not really as combat patrol is meant to replace 500pts games but the 1k,2k,3k game modes are basically max size not required size
@@conspiracy_marine9238 bugger. Iv only just finnished a 500 point army
The combat patrols have their own Detachment rules, which could be fun to build around for smaller games
@@james-and-his-stuffyou can still play 500 points, the game just isnt balanced for it
Can’t wait to play some nonsense “all HQ units” list
Play bolt action or one page rules
My opinion its a Crap app. Someone needs to take on BS and give it some love, tjw owner needa to move on or someone needa to build a BS 2 and give that the flag to move on to.
Step 1: don't play one of the sh*t armies.
Step 2: play one of the OP ones.
Step 3: forget everything about your army having any kind of personality.
Iron Hands in a nutshell
No
God I hope the Canis Rex spam thing doesn't become legit. I can't stand named characters in games at the best of times, let alone one whos obviously a shoe horn in *purely* for meta.
10th is just going to be a boring cheese fest.
Seems more strategic and less cheesy than fucking 9th.
All of the matches I've seen so far have been pretty close, and rather varied.
I actually like the stratified interaction between infantry, vehicles/monsters, characters, battle-shock, and objective control. It's rather clever, design-wise. I hope they can keep it intact over the course of the edition.
What unit do you recommend to pick for IH in 10th ed?
