Beautiful design. I usually use a white cloth for ironing over a painting, just to make sure no color transfers. You might like this new channel I'm just starting. I use several different techniques I've developed after lots of experimenting.
Thank you for your wonderful videos. I’m inspired to try silk painting, and would love to know what types of blank silk scarves you use and the best online sources for them. Perhaps you have a video covering the different types of silks somewhere that I missed? Thanks!
you are an amazing artist....loved your work and now finally trying my hands on it :-) one question..my water based gutta gets pealed off after washing....is it expected or I am doing something wrong? using pebeo water based gutta
Hi Sushma, Thank you for your comments. If you are in Europe try Hdupond silk supply, many professional silk painters are using it, if you are in other countries maybe Pebeo is more worldwide. I hope this information is useful if you need further advice please email me: miu@miuartstudio.co.uk (maybe I can forward some links of the supplies I am using)
Yes you can use home steam for some projects, the only thing is if you fold it too tightly the folds will show even after ironing so make sure fold the silk loosely!
Hi Teri D, thank you for the message. To solve the creases the best to do is to roll the folded scarf loosely instead of fold it flat. Please check the time line 6:50 in the video. Everything I used in this video is from Hdupont, silk painting and Gutta outline, steam fixed.
@@MiuArtStudioUK thank you for your response. do you prefer the tower one or that little round flatter one that you use in some of your videos? I'm wondering what would be the difference. I also know of another TH-cam artist that uses her oven and puts in a pan of water to create steam.... I have just been skipping the steaming part as some of the paints say just iron. But I would prefer to do it the right way.
Hello ma'am great work can you please share the number of the nib on the gutta tube is it .5 or .3 where do we purchase this from online thankyou. What brand are the paints you use please.. Thankyou
We wash the silk after steaming in order to rinse off any remaining dye. The shape of the gutta and/or resist will depend on what you use and how you apply it.
I am so sorry to hear that!! I hope you are not discouraged, it is just the journey of learning. Hi, I am sorry to hear that, learn silk painting is just like learning anything else we always make mistakes, but don't worry once we find out why we n avoid it next time. Would you mind describe in details of the process? It will help me to find the reason, what type of dye have you used ? any other media? How did you fix the colour? Do you want to send me a picture? I might not be able to reply straight away, feels so busy with homeschooling during the day , but I will do as soon as I can. Thank you 😊
@@JudiChristopher Hi, Judi. I am a silk painter also. She is probably using H. DuPont steam set silk dyes. She mentioned that her gutta was H. DuPont and I think in another video she refilled one of her paint containers with a DuPont dye. I use those now but when I first got started I used Jacquard Red Label Silk Dyes. Please know that there is a difference in silk dyes and silk paints. Most silk DYES need to be steam set and the silk texture is smooth with no stiffness at all. The "hand" (or feel) of the silk is as if the design was weaved into it from the start- not painted on! Most silk PAINTS need either time or ironing to set, but the texture is somewhat stiff depending on what silk paint you use. Last thing, Jacquard also makes a silk dye that can be chemically set but the colors are not as vibrant as steam setting. The chemically set dyes are Jacquard Green Label Silk Dyes. I hope this helps. I also hope that Mandy does not mind me answering questions. I do not wish to insult anyone, just trying to help and learning from very gracious and generous silk artists. 😃

@@MiuArtStudioUK Thanks for reply. I was asking about silk .do you think that silk dye colour will not change the texture.because if we use silk fabric paints it looses the smoothness of silk and become stiff.that's what I feel.
@@ghazalajmal4283 you need to use SILK DYES, NOT silk paints. The paints make the silk stiff and depending on what paint you use, stiffness of the silk will vary. what is the purpose of washing the cloth after painting? Also, doe the gutta flatten up after washing/ironing?

Did you paint on dry cloth or wet?? Thanks for sharing 😊
It depends on the design, wet on wet makes the colour transferring smooth (the penguins) Dry ones creat texture and brush strokes (the background )😀

What paints have u used ...what to mix in the paints to stop being washed off
It is special dye for silk, the brand I am using : H dupont.
You can use silk dilute to thin the dark colors, otherwise just apply silk dye directly.
How to fix the paints or dye to fabrics...
