I'm absolutely floored by the amount of autonomy you have in your classroom. Our days are micro managed, our furniture, our use of technology, everything! We are required to do reading groups and our principal would write us up if we didn't have our small group table in the room, set up for reading groups. Every grade level must be on the same standard, same worksheet, same page at the same moment in time. It's smothering and doesn't lend well to differentiated instruction. It has changed so much in the 22 years I've taught here in Az. I'm ready for a change. I love watching your videos to know there is hope for the future of our children.
I'm surprised your administrators will let the students sit on top of the desks. You seem to have a lot of freedom to do what you want, which is great. Your classroom reminds me of the Montessori setting more and more. You just got to keep trying things to see what works. I hope it goes well!
Well, I can't wait to go in and arrange my classroom. I'm going in mid-year. I just finished Student Teaching on January 19. I interviewed on January 23. I accepted my job offer (2) hours later. I'm so excited! Watching this makes me even more impatient lol.
How many of you have done Genius Hour or Passion Projects? I love that my students will be able to dig deep into topics that truly drive their interest to learn!
I teach LD students and we are doing fish in a tree too. I downloaded the audiobook as well. Great book! It's a Caudill book and part of our accelerated reader program. Hope your students identify with it as much as mine are..
You didn't show us what your wonderful husband ordered for you. Maybe I missed it. I was thinking that you might want to keep your small group desk as another one of the kids' choice seating areas. That way, if you find later on that you want your small group area back then you don't have to go hunting for another desk. It is such a great desk - I wish I had one. I'll have to do some research on Genius Hour. I will check out "Hug"the teacher's site. :)
I was wondering can you do a video on how to plan a room transformation? Now that you have the new format to your lessons, will you do another room transformation?
I am going to do another transformation. Hopefully, soon! With all the changes going on in the classroom I decided to push the next one back. The plan is to do two more this year.
Keep the guided reading table as another student seating option. Just because it once was the guided reading table, doesn't mean it forever has to be a teacher table!
So, as a firstie teacher (who's taught upper elem too) so you think (in your kindergarten teacher brain) that I could get rid of my guided reading table too? I have SUCH a small classroom and now I'm thinking I could free up space....
It's in my Amazon Store. It's called 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane' astore.amazon.com/thelettclas-20?node=8&page=2 'One School, One Book' is the idea behind the program. This page breaks it down readtothem.org/programs/one-school-one-book/
You're so cute and sweet I love you and your videos so much 💞💕 and they're so helpful and informative! You're so dedicated and I hope you feel better! Yuck:/

How many of you have done Genius Hour or Passion Projects? I love that my students will be able to dig deep into topics that truly drive their interest to learn!
Thanks Trevor!
We start them in grade 2. Grade 2 needs a lot more support, but by grade 4, they are mostly independent with these projects.
I change my room sometimes too! I love getting tips from your videos! I would like to try the Genius Hour in my classroom!

I found it at H&M, but I've had it for a little while now.
Good luck with your new plan. I hope it works for you. Question: How long have you been teacher?
This is my 5th year teaching, but my first year in Kindergarten.
Keep the guided reading table as another student seating option. Just because it once was the guided reading table, doesn't mean it forever has to be a teacher table!
You are amazing I wanted to know how do you do the book tasting...? Can you do a video on that
Done! It's in the Classroom Book Club video that I did a few days ago ;)
Hey Bridget you never said what your hubby ordered for you. Please share!
Why don't you also lower your small group table and use it as a bench.
So, as a firstie teacher (who's taught upper elem too) so you think (in your kindergarten teacher brain) that I could get rid of my guided reading table too? I have SUCH a small classroom and now I'm thinking I could free up space....
+Alison Kitchin - I don't think I would get ride of my table in Kindergarten. That was my main hub for teaching.
What was the name of the book your school chose to read? I looked in your Amazon store and didn't see it? Was the title Our School, Our Book?
It's in my Amazon Store. It's called 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane'
