  • This is an update for my previous video on packing for the Peace Corps in Ghana. I am reviewing what I brought; letting you know what I liked, wished I left behind, and some things I should have brought instead.

Hey Olivia, long time oh! lol
I stumbled across this video looking up peace corps stuff. What I can say toward the end of service was:
    1. A good back pack, preferably weather resistant
    2. A good multitool, and a backup multitool, as yes kids can break a leathermen…
    3. Top quality battery packs, with a decent solar panel to charge them
    4. Headphones, good ones, hard to find in Ghana
    5. A laptop, I seem to remember Noah pointing out it’s not needed, which it is if you don’t want to drive to a sub office all the time (if sub offices still exist idk)
    6. A 2tb hard drive, a DSLR, and multiple memory cards. Not needed but they become your best friends.
    Bonus:
Multivitamins, the PCMO is not all that reliable l, especially the further away you are from Accra, in Nate and my case, the Northern Region
Go to Chucks in Tamale, Tobbe is a great guy and has good advice for Volunteers, keep your wits about who goes there though, don’t need to run into Peace Corps staff for no reason
If you bring your dog back, don’t just get a rabies shot, have great documentation, a kennel, and a release from the Ministry of Agriculture, it sounds harder than it is.

This is a really random question and I know it’s years later, did you have to have a bachelor’s degree to be able to selected for the Peace Corps?

Can I bring small packs of organic vegetable seeds for a small personal garden?

I’m not sure if customs would let you in with them, but there are some programs that will send you free seeds (I used one called Echo Seeds I think?) and you can also find some locally and get some from the Peace Corps.
