I love the way David gets away with basically singing a harmony part for the melody at the beginning , not the first time I've seen him do it, either! He did a cameo with Pink Floyd, sang Comfortably Numb, and did the same thing! The pianist realized what he was doing and provided the melody and it was so awesome!😁💖
I don't think it was a case of "the pianist" suddenly realising what he was doing. Richard Wright always sang that part of the song, they simply harmonized according to each of them's timbre and range.
David Bowie is amazing. He doesnt move from that one spot on the stage (save for the solo), yet he fucking commands that stage. That man is charisma incarnate. Combine that with Lou Reed's amazing guitar playing and you have pure win. Awesome.
Ha this performance was good. Reed just bobbing there with hid guitra watching Bowie sing his song, I must say, Bowie definitely OWNS the stage here! And ha, I love how he breathes into the microphone at the end.
@SatanicMajesty Yes!!!!!!!! Bowie adds pure magic to all the other people's music he's been involved with. Even if it's backing vocals , he steals the show often!!!! His influence can't be overestimated!!!!!!!!!
this is about the 5th amazing bowie cover ive favorited on youtube. he never ceases to amaze me, how he can turn a great influence into something completely his own, like he did with this song and queen bitch from hunky dory
In the foreground is a long-time Bowie band member, Miss Gail Ann Dorsey. She usually plays bass but can play other instruments. And she's excellent singing background vocals. She's toured the world over with Bowie.
Me deprime un montón saber que voy a morir sin ver en vivo a Lou Reed y a David Bowie. Lo único que me da felicidad es haber visto a Morrissey, ese momento es imborrable!
Listen Waiting for the Man from the same Concert(Bowies 50th Birthday-Party in 1997) then you can hear sing them together!! (Also on Queen Bitch!) I`m really sad, that they didn´t much more together! Another example is Hop Frog from The Raven-Album! But sadly it`s just a Little more than 2 min. short! Two really giftet Musicians!! I listen now 30 Years to them, put I never get borred one Moment!
Bowies versions are all ace, but to me, nothing compares to the live Lou Reed version done with Prakash John and Danny Weiss. That rocks a fat one, just as this does in its own way.
+Morag MacGregor LOL song is bad enough even Lou Reed couldn't f**k it up! He didn't even try though, just stood there. Probably his best performance ever... I'm thinking his mic was unplugged!
Madison Square Garden, 8 January 1997. Bowie's 50th birthday concert. The whole thing's on TH-cam a few times; he also performed Queen Bitch, Dirty Boulevard, and Waiting For The Man with Lou. (And a bunch of other stuff with other artists.)
Bowie was the coolest thing that ever walked the Earth!!
Absolutely!!!😁💖😘
No, Lou Reed was
Yeah I think David would 💯agree with you!😅@@seanconners4478
The two coolest dudes in Rock N' Roll.

Born in the 50's along with Rock and Roll ! What a great time to be alive !

Best White light/White heat cover I've ever heard.
WOW. I love this version!!!! Bowie's delivery is great...
This song is so bad ass, and even better the way Bowie does it!!!😁💖 Damn, he's the finest thing to ever walk this earth! Sigh...💖💖💖
He was just absolutely IN TOP FORM in all ways! In this performance!.

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOWIE is the best.......................................
Have seen both in person. Lou, once, so stoned he could barely stand up. David, six times, perfect every time.
Would love to hear more :)
Amazing performance by Bowie of one of the best songs ever. RIP Lou - my R&R Hero
Gayle Ann Dorsey laying down the bottom with the Bass, and making the vocals soar. A whole stage full of the best musicians.
This band of bowies were phenomenal.
That was one of the most sensual things I've ever seen.
This is so fantastic particularly given the 2 men's history. So funny to not see Lou sing any of it though.
Bowie's band is f*&king awesome.
+Ricky Rhoades I'm a big fan of Lou Reed, but I think that this Earthling tour version of White Light/White Heat is the definitive one
This is footage from db 50th birthday concert at MSG.
Magnificent. Great tune, marvelous execution.
The first punk rock song I ever heard ! 😭❤️
unforgettable duo!
I was at this show! It was beyond amazing!
RIP my hero's - X
This is the greatest cover of WL WH and is one of the best rock music tracks of all time.
David Bowie is amazing. He doesnt move from that one spot on the stage (save for the solo), yet he fucking commands that stage. That man is charisma incarnate. Combine that with Lou Reed's amazing guitar playing and you have pure win. Awesome.
Rest in Peace Bowie Rest in Peace Lou
David Bowie...White Light...Lou Reed...White Heat.....Together Hardcore.....
Ha this performance was good. Reed just bobbing there with hid guitra watching Bowie sing his song, I must say, Bowie definitely OWNS the stage here! And ha, I love how he breathes into the microphone at the end.
The perfect cover of this song.
David Bowie really loved that artsy scene in New York.
Dos de los grandes!
DDEEPP.
Larga vida a nuestro querido Rock and Blues!
Bowie and The Velvets are just a perfect match
so lucky to have been alive when they were
Theirs a truth to this song.which makes it timeless .
@SatanicMajesty Yes!!!!!!!! Bowie adds pure magic to all the other people's music he's been involved with. Even if it's backing vocals , he steals the show often!!!! His influence can't be overestimated!!!!!!!!!
Reed and Bowie of the Gods !
I just love it when that man dances
this is about the 5th amazing bowie cover ive favorited on youtube. he never ceases to amaze me, how he can turn a great influence into something completely his own, like he did with this song and queen bitch from hunky dory
The way David breathes in the beginning... :0
this version has just taken all the energy from the original song..
Lou looked suitably nonplussed.
Great version of this song. They weren't booing, they were Louing.
Bellissima questa versione. Di Wight light Wight head. E poi Con due grandi artisti come Lou Reed e David Bowie. L'hanno resa ancora migliore.
Bowie always thanked Lou Reed for his music.
WOW BOWIE SO SUITED THAT HAIRSTYLE HE JUST LOOKED THE EPITOME OF SUPER COOL R.I.P. DAVID
Two of my favourite singers, singing a song that also has the name of a favourite band of mine in the title= :)
In the foreground is a long-time Bowie band member, Miss Gail Ann Dorsey. She usually plays bass but can play other instruments. And she's excellent singing background vocals. She's toured the world over with Bowie.
+Nancy Fintak Yes and she is gorgeous.
and she's hotter than fire.
La energía con la que Bowie siempre soño apadrinando a Reed y Pop
Ni mozart ni betowen ni hostias estos 2 son los mas grandes de la historia de la musica
two legends
That final from 3:20 with the guitar riff and the piano is really orgasmic! That´s a REAL birthday party!
Rock and roll sublime
Me deprime un montón saber que voy a morir sin ver en vivo a Lou Reed y a David Bowie. Lo único que me da felicidad es haber visto a Morrissey, ese momento es imborrable!
You'll see them in Heaven.
(Lou, Reed was the New York city poet)!!!! HELLO ALL !. GOOD DAY
Back at you PRETTY AR.

That was fricken AWESOME …. RIP David Bowie
God of music
A superb live perfomance.

could not agree more! Would not bee too happy if I were lou!
This Is Epic! A Song That is Literally About Heroin! Hahahaha!.
Kudos to Reeves Gabrels, lead guitar, and Gail Ann Dorsey, bass & backing vocals!
I Love them so!!!!!!!
They are jamming up there ... in the black stars
out of my mind!
sounds intelligent°°°
fantastic Bowie
I like this. But my favourite version is during his last Ziggy Stardust show in 1973.
thank you for settling that.
this is too fucking good.
I love this song even the name WL/WH is cool.
R.I.P. Lou x
Amazing
lou & david.. both are great. i once read they shared their flat with iggy pop also. must have been pretty cool (and loud, maybe).
@JrFLYnnIV This is from Bowies 50th birthday, New York 1997.
Maybe it was his birthday present. You can see he's put a lot of work into the song.
Now THAT'S rock & roll. Fucking awesome. My only complaint is Bowie should've shared the vocal with Lou.
Listen Waiting for the Man from the same Concert(Bowies 50th Birthday-Party in 1997) then you can hear sing them together!! (Also on Queen Bitch!) I`m really sad, that they didn´t much more together! ROCK !!!
Man, I'd like to get a hold of this whole concert. What was it called and where can I find it?
i agree !
Any guitar players out there know what the lead player is using for effects? It's quite a balls out crazy sound...love it!
Lou Reed is definitely impressed by Bowie on this song. This is how it should be played and sung. And the guitarsolo is far out 😎
people that dont get bowie clearly have never heard the album diamond dogs
Total TIN MACHINE guitar!.....
01:47 - Howard Stern keping a mean beat for Bowie is priceless
* keeeeeeeeeeeeping !!!!!!!
baddassss
It really ignites the heart though.
couldn't agree with you more
Love the guitar solo! Now where the hell can I get that effect?!!
@SatanicMajesty Kick ass indeed. That bass is driving, too!
yep.. couldn't agree more....:P
Freaking Badass
awesomeee! :D
!?!??! I've been Rick Rolled ?!?!?!?!
gostei muito
Bowies versions are all ace, but to me, nothing compares to the live Lou Reed version done with Prakash John and Danny Weiss. That rocks a fat one, just as this does in its own way.
@teden20 yeah it's pretty cool
in deed !
Wish I could read whatever Lou had written on the cardboard hangin off his music stand.
"Smile" ? "Growl" ?
"Don't fuck up" ?
+Morag MacGregor LOL song is bad enough even Lou Reed couldn't f**k it up! He didn't even try though, just stood there. Probably his best performance ever... I'm thinking his mic was unplugged!
Is this available on cd or dvd?
When and where was this recorded ? "Aladdin Sane" tour, maybe?
