Guns, even just toy ones, have such ingenious mechanisms. It's insane to think that some people just came together to brainstorm how to make these things work and came up with the things they did
Big money in both, that's why!
and smooth brains say capitalism is bad, without it there would be zero incentive to make any of this stuff
@@egg-iu3fe well, I'd argue that guns are kind of a grey area. They are, you know, _guns_ after all
I'm pretty sure the designers of this toy took a bunch of inspiration from already existing mechanisms in real guns, like the cam, but it's still incredible nevertheless.

You gotta have respect for the engineers that design toys in general. I feel like most of the time they’re not recognized for just how clever they are.
Not only does this have to work, but it has to be a design that’s manufacturable in a way that makes it cheap enough for parents to buy. Well done.

Reminds me of the Dart Zone Pro Conquest, that one loads the darts through a magazine inserted on the back of the gun and the darts point upwards, and through a pump load it slides the darts into forward facing and prepares the spring. Wonderful

The “vertical slider” is called the “catch” or the “catching mechanism” because it’s what holds the blaster in the primed position before the trigger releases the catch to fire the dart.

Good video by the way. It's very nice and informative
Lul the ultimate question
Legends : how does lightsaber work
Tons of Misnomers and missing information, don't use this video as fact
I’ll answer how a gun fires: A bullet is made metal contained in a shell with golden coloring, which contains gunpowder and a little explosive in a separate compartment at the back. The bullet is located at the front of the shell, where it is fired from. At the back of the muzzle is a small pin that, when the trigger is pulled, hits the compartment with the explosive. The force of the pin pushes the explosive out of the compartment and into the gunpowder, causing a reaction. This reaction causes a small explosion in the shell, pushing the bullet out of the muzzle and leaving the shell behind. You may see on modern guns and semi-auto weapons a golden colored cylinder eject from the back of the muzzle. This is how the gun discards the shell and puts the next round in the muzzle chamber. Also, the small reaction in the shell renders it useless, preventing you from firing the Same shell twice

Hey, mom said it's my turn to play mine-
With a few relatively minor differences mechanically, this is how a single action revolver works. They didn't invent it entirely from scratch, but adapting it to shoot foam darts is pretty clever. They've had revolving nerf guns for decades, but the older ones where much less reliable and where needlessly complicated for reasons that I could hazard a guess on but don't know for sure.
I'm waiting for a hybrid pistol. Such as a Glock 17 mixed with a Colt Python.

A perfect video. Honestly this is objectively one of the most effective and pleasing videos on the internet!
For those wondering about slam-fire: when you hold down the trigger and pull, the "vertical slider" acts as a ramp lifting the bar on the piston above the bar on the priming handle enabling it to fire immediately. If you were to try this on a blaster without slam-fire it will simply not prime. The bar on the priming handle is triangular so it can pick up the bar of the piston during slam-fire since otherwise it would get stuck behind the priming handle's bar.
Cool I didn't know how slam fire works
Oh also, some blasters have locks that prevent you from pulling the trigger when the priming handle is back so if the trigger on your blaster doesn't press when primed back don't try to press it or it will break
Do the inside of a flywheel nerf blaster
Even easier, when the trigger is pulled a pin pushes the bullet from the magazine into the flywheels which fire it.
This is an incredibly oversimplified mechanism but I go over the main points
Matt's Hobbies If you open up a flywheel you can directly see how it works
dart btw

cool stuff.. 1 tip tho, a screw comes out turning anti-clockwise ;)
Awesome work. This is my favourite Nerf gun ever. You can fire it very rapidly by holding the trigger and fanning the slide back. This is in contrast to true "slam fire" which would fire only when the slide is returned home.
The small bar might also be the reason why my disruptor stopped working way sooner than I expected (it was so long ago I forgor how much time it stayed working)
You’re so good at explaining these things I can’t even put it into words. Such complex themes seem so easy to understand because of you. Thank you
Basically you press the trigger and it yeets a dart out the barrel
I found the trigger and wheel rotation mechanisms so satisfying...
The "vertical slider" is usually called a "sear".
Pretty good video! Although in the "Nerfing" hobby, we do have different names for certain parts. One thing I did notice is that you (intentionally or unintentionally) left out the slam-fire mechanism. It's a bar (and maybe some other components) that allow you to hold down the trigger and continuously prime the blaster for rapid firing.
The “vertical slider” is actually called the catch.
Traktorized and the piston is a plunger rod

yeah, it's called "Slam Fire", really useful if you want to fire fast.
The “vertical slider” is called the catch because it catches the plunger and prevents it from moving forward

Good video, but you got several terms a little wrong. Still, Amazing video, SMASHED DAT LIKE BUTTON!!!
Oh, and great animation too!!!
Thanks Crazy fish - yeah I struggle with the terminology. I was satisfied with calling it "piston" but I wasn't sure what else to call it! I definitely appreciate the comment and thanks for the like!
Jared Owen yeah, most information on nerf blasters are in "mod guides". It would be really cool to see more of the videos on TH-cam!
Jared, don't listen to these "modders", your terminology is actually technically more correct than theirs.
The correct terms for the device (pneumatic cylinder) shown in the animation are piston, piston rod and cylinder.
To differentiate between a piston and a plunger, you compare the length of the element that provides the seal to the length of the stroke.
In all modern nerf blasters, that I've taken apart, I've only seen pistons - small height (not the diameter) connected to a piston rod moving inside a cylinder. Maybe some of the first blasters used plungers and people got the term from there.
If you want to imagine a plunger - think "cylinder within cylinder".
This picture might make it clearer
www.pumpworld.com/assets/images/pistonandplungerpump-1400x1502-13.png
J C with all due respect, the modding community has been using these terms for nerf blasters for decades in some instances. In my opinion, the terms that are used are universal, and will always rule when it comes to nerf blasters.
Wow! Humans are amazing!!
Hats off to the creator of this gun, the engineering is mind bending, and look at this animation too!
