That was really really good for a first try. you sold me on the idea of the minimum viable product, It's the only way I'll ever take game dev seriously, otherwise I'll just keep making a thousand unplayable tests a year.. MVP is the MVP.
Yeah, is fun. Very polished feel with the art, shading, and music. I get occasional lag spikes on FireFox with Linux, seems like it's when obstacles load. I've heard you can instance a handfull of objects on ready and reposition as-needed instead of destroying and re-instancing repeatedly, but certainly not worth fixing unless you take it commercial.
idk what to comment but im commenting to boost the video cus the video is a good video and it deserves a comment so the video gets boosted so it gets more comments which boosts it more and gets more views
great game overall, one thing i was kind of annoyed with was that some trees are so thick you cant see the stump, so even if you can see the character through the tree sometimes you just randomly run into the tree. Everything else is good though! It would also be cool if you added a leaderboard
The game feels great! Got a high score of 156(I'm bad), but overall I'm amazed at how you guys finished in 3 weeks cause gamedev is so hard, looking forward to what ever projects you all have next
just played the game, great work so far! love the mood and once you get going it's easy to keep replaying to get further and further. definitely gonna join the discord to keep up to date. some feedback on barrel roller: the music and sfx are great! it would be cool if the music loop did not reset every time you failed because the transition can be a little jarring, it would probably be okay to let the music loop simply run infinitely. the character walk cycle is super cute, but the cycle loop is just a frame or two off, the character and barrel rest for a moment before the cycle repeating again. excited to see the game get polished out further!
refreshing cozy video :) I tried the game and after some time I even got to 100 and 5 coins wohoo. I think it is a bit too hard if you start so a few less spawns would be greatto get used to the controls and stuff. Other than that I really like it! I can imagine some powerups like jumping or something like that in future :) can't wait for an update!
Very funny project, love the style of your new game!!! there is kinda like a bug where you can just stay off screen and you can't really die because nothing can kill you off screen.
Ok glad to say it’s playable on iPad but one thing I would change is making the hit box for the barrel be the width of the frame to cheat a little in the player’s favour and prevent annoying things like just hitting a small tree to make the game feel less frustrating and more fun.
Game was pretty good! It was actually pretty fun and a little addicting lol. I’m not sure if this is just on my end, but for me the camera wasn’t moving smoothly down the map and I personally wasn’t a fan of that, I just felt like it threw me off a bit. On top of that, I feel like you get thrown right into the thick of it really quick, and I feel like it should start off a little easier and get more difficult as you progress. Other than that, I really loved the game! The art and audio were both amazing, and as I already said the game itself is quite fun. Keep it up man!
Awesome work, Jerbob! I applaud you for all your effort even in the midst of all the other busy things you keep up with. A little feedback: - The turns seem too sharp. I found myself not understanding the controls at first but even after I got them it was way hard to move the lil guy where I wanted. - I love the look and all the visuals! - Both the music and sound effects seem to fit perfectly👌🏼 Great job!!
That's a whole motivation you just gave me to start coding for my 3D game!! Thanks a lot bro! Also could you please tell me what song was used for the Sunday video clip? It actually reminds me of my childhood, giving off Pokemon vibes? LOVE IT
The game is fun. I would say that there are many ways to improve the current gameloop (one of many is introducing local powerups for example that end after a limited time, an idea similar to the Super Mario invulnerability star to be clear). Similarly, I would give a "fake choice" to the player by asking him to take paths during the journey and introducing ramps (which must be taken by force otherwise you drown in waterways for example). Having said that, at the moment there is an easy way to "cheat" the game which is to stand between the two screens and try to appear as little as possible on the screen, this can be solved by making the player appear "immediately" on the other side of the map I would say. Great work, I would like to collaborate in the future (even if now with my work as a university researcher in artificial intelligence I no longer have much time to develop video games unfortunately ^^').
I like the game, but what would be nice, for on pc, that you can press any key to restart and not have to use your mouspointer, so you don't have to put you hand on the mouse.
I go to snhu! Your game is pretty nice. I think it would be better if the player moved up the screen and then put a controller on screen to move left and right at the bottom. I think you having the screen as is makes it hard to see the upcoming obstacles. Also i think the collisions are too big and i feel like i am getting cheated. I dont mind the slow controls because the character is on a barrel and the movement makes sense like that.
My only complaint with the game is I feel like the collisions are a bit dodgy. I sometimes hit a tree/rock even tho it doesn't feel like the Barrel visually did it
I played it for about a minute. It was ok, for what it was the controls seemed smooth enough. I didn't like how easily it seemed I could die. I would consider making you have like 3 lives or visually show the barrel breaking up a bit after each hit and by the 3rd hit you fully lose maybe. It's a really basic for what it is. I would be tired of the game in a few minutes I think, but letting me live a little longer could help me play a little longer. I don't really know what you could do to make me want to play for any extended period of time. The game loop isn't great. A high score just doesn't really do it for me. Sorry to be harsh, but want you to have some honest feedback with hopefully useful critiques to consider and not just ripping on the game for the heck of it. But you released a game, that's great. Now keeping making more. Your first game is never going to be your best but you have to make it and you did. Proud of your for that at the very least.
hay i am getting in to Game development cycle as a college student but the problem is i am from ethiopia... i have learned every thing i have every skil but publieshing and getting some help is hard from ethiopia do u have any advice
Played the game for 15 minutes and it was pretty fun :D Kind of wish there was some sort of basic menu in the game. Like just a pause button or something. Also felt like the game could've made use of tilt controls Lastly, you can kind of just hide in the screen wrapper, avoiding basically any and all obstacles
tilt controls would be cool! Yeah we're still polishing the screenwrapping. And we're hoping to get a main menu and shop for the next update. Thanks for the feedback!
You should use another engine if you’re doing 3d in the future. do your own research, but from what I’ve heard, godot specializes in 2d, and it’s 3d, especially the physics engine, is pretty bad ❤
Godot is absolutely fine for 3d. They've likely already done their research, telling them to change their engine because you've heard rumours once that godot is bad is so incredibly silly and weird. Don't be a weirdo.
Godot Engine my beloved.
I'm legally obligated to click on any video with it in the thumbnail, godot my beloved ❤
very cinematic when you are walking down the path. I love it
I love watching these types of videos... I've never made a video game... but love this!
That was really really good for a first try.

This is great! Love the chill vibes and great job balancing life obligations with dev work 👏
Dude you are on the right road, keep managing your scope like this and you will go far
Very cool! Balanced and well edited vid. Good job and keep it up I want to see where you go next!

interesting. thanks for the feedback! gonna see if we can't fix some of the initial lag spikes, i've noticed that too

thanks for the feedback! definitely gonna work on making the movement more intuitive because i've seen that's an issue as well.
It was great , loved watching video

Also could you please tell me what song was used for the Sunday video clip? It actually reminds me of my childhood, giving off Pokemon vibes? LOVE IT

never thought I'd see someone play LoL with a controller 3:28
I think movement is a bit sensitive on iphone and there was a lot of lag in the first 15 seconds of loding up the game. Love the style tho

Hi nice video good job
My only complaint with the game is I feel like the collisions are a bit dodgy. I sometimes hit a tree/rock even tho it doesn't feel like the Barrel visually did it
yeah that's honestly true. That's on my list of things to work on. Thanks for the feedback!
Can you make it so that when you tilt your phone or ipad the guy moves i think this would make the game more fun
Oh that would be sick!
