This is a very fabulous collection. Ume has always been a favorite for me. It has such character and beauty. I have been to Japan six times starting first in 1958. I have much admiration for their culture and the aesthetics embodied in their cherished traditions. Thanks very much for making this old video available for us to enjoy.

I've found there a real bonsai lover and artist. In my opinion, the bonsai-do is not only to work the trees but also dedicate time to observe them and catch the beauty inside and outside the tree.
Bjorn, thanks so much for uploading this video. By the moment one of my favorites vlog you shared with us.

Really nice to have the opportunity to see someone's collection, how it is woven into the fabric of his restaurant. I'm sure he must be very very proud of the status of his restaurant but I think his love is his collection. Not just the bonsai but everything that goes into enhancing the trees.

The Weeping Ume stole my heart as well, even in its odd pot. Absolutely stunning and deeply evocative of longing, a longing to cherish it everyday. Thank you for sharing!

Wonderful atmosphere. Beautiful trees, very intriguing style - just like I look in history cards or something ... I watched this episode as hypnotized. Something fabulous ^^

I have no experience or clue about bonsai and the art behind, although I can find beauty in it and can appreciate the craft, time, patience and love, that goes into making these beautiful trees. But the most amazing thing in this video is the passion, that seeps out every pore of this collector. It's really inspiring seeing him talking about his trees and its details.

Fascinating story about the Weeping Plum (Ume) He talks so passionate about it and how he had to get it, like a life-long promise... Thats what Bonsai is all about. /Bonsai Talk

Ume bonsai are most unusual in that they are permitted to have deadwood as part of their design - the only Japanese deciduous bonsai to have this feature. They may also have a twisted, rugged and rough appearance which shows the harsh circumstances which they have survived. This again is unique amongst deciduous bonsai. The literati specimen in the rough bankan pot is a superb masterpiece. I can fully understand his burning desire to own it.

Bjorn, that's a great video. I think Mr. Yanai would enjoy seeing the original Aichien ume.

Breathtakingly beautiful! So refreshing to see deciduous Bonsai styled naturally instead as if the were junipers! 🙏👌👍

very interesting blog, great set of trees and insightful and moving tour. I imagine it takes a lot of time and dedication over 10's of years to keep and move these trees toward such a perfect condition. Also i would imagine a lot of these trees are only brought in temporarily for the evening and are maintained outside?

Whats the english name for ume? I've heard it is Plum Blossom or Flowering Apricot or Flowering Plum. Which one are the bonsai's with white flowers and dark gnarly bark?

If some of the trees are so valuable - who takes care of them?
This gentlemen seems to be a big fan of bonsai and knows how to deal with trees. Plus he can invite you. But i doubt that all of the customers are like him...
Even watering is critical... Who waters trees worth 10k or even 100k? Is there any kind of traditional approach to that Japan?
