    A friend and i brewed this for a pool party last weekend and emptied it 4hrs in. It was a great hit! The only thing we tweaked was added 1oz of galaxy hops in the whirlpool and 1oz in the dry hop.

    Mosaic and El Dorado is an amazing combo! I plan on brewing a sour hazy soon with those hops. I'll kettle sour it with lactobacillus then boil and add all the hops on the late side. It's gonna be like a tropical fruit smoothie.

    Using Pilsen malt it's a good idea do not cover the kettle, so, DMS percursors can evaporate during boiling. Condensation that forms into kettle when covered (even when just a little covered) reatins DMS components.

      It was a "I have too much citra in my fridge" recipe that worked really well.
      Mash:
      10 lbs Maris Otter (I like a little more flavorful base malt in these)
      1lb flaked oats
      1lb flaked wheat
      Mashed at 150f
      I aimed for a 2:1 chloride to sulfate ratio for the water. That was recommended on a number of recipes and it seemed to do the trick.
      Kettle Hops:
      0.5 oz Citra 60 min
      2.5 oz Citra 0 min
      3.0 oz Citra whirlpool at 160f for 30 minutes.
      Dry hops at day 3 of fermentation (and left in until kegging):
      1 oz Galaxy
      2 oz Citra
      Dry hops 5 days before kegging:
      2 oz Galaxy
      1 oz Citra
      I think if I were to do it again I'd add the flameout hops with the whirpool or drop the 60 min. Picked up a little more bitterness than I was aiming for, but it was still really good.

      Too much citra....is that even a thing?? That looks solid-- I agree with the flamout hop addition -- I've brewed a few that way and noticed the same thing---they are still solid beers but had a bit more bitterness than expected.

I did a secondary and used London Fog yeast. I had a lower than expected mash at 150 degrees though. Im going for 154 next time. I plan to use Eldorado , Citra , Galaxy. This is my type of beer.

    Great looking brew system, brew day and tasty looking beer. Quick question. Is there any particular reason for leaving the lid on during the boil? I thought leaving it off helps drive off any compounds that can lead to DMS in your finished beer. Cheers

    • @ClawhammerSupply
      @ClawhammerSupply  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have had no ill effects leaving the lid on-- it is hard to get a really good boil with a 5.5 finished batch using 1650 watts without the lid on. You can read more about that here: www.clawhammersupply.com/blogs/moonshine-still-blog/why-boil-wort and here: www.clawhammersupply.com/blogs/moonshine-still-blog/brewing-5-gallon-batches-with-110-120-volts and

    Why don’t the filter the yeast out before keggging? I’ve only done homebrew so always used natural fermentation, but I would assume with a keg you would filter it and carbonate through that

  • @stormsoto9952
    @stormsoto9952 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe a dumb question. So the fermentation process took a total of 9 days, once you moved it to the keg how long do you chill it for before you serve it? Also I'm assuming since it's on CO2 you don't need priming sugar since you're not bottling the beer? I'm new to this whole thing and wanna make sure I don't mess it up

Sugested temp is 18-23 for this Type of yeast, what would happen if I ferment it in 12-13°C? Is it Just going to slow Down the proces or are there any other cons of fermenting colder?
