@@scottw.3258 Aside from Ferguson, Aberdeen have only won 9 major trophies in their history. Derek Mcinnes took them from the bottom 6, fighting relegation to being in the top 4 and Europe every season. He also finished second with Aberdeen several times in both the leagues and cups but were unfortunate to meet one of the strongest Celtic sides.

@@tonyh7994 Do you happy clappers just churn out the same speech regarding this loser??
      Here's the facts for you.
      1. We've won 19 Major trophies, not 9.
      2. Derek McInnes inherited a squad which was on the up after many years of doldrums. We were not fighting relegation when McInnes took over.
      3. Finished 2nd when we had no other realistic challenge. We've also finished 3rd once and 4th 3 times(looking like 4). The last 3(possibly 4) times we've finished 4th it's been behind Clubs with far less of a budget than ourselves.
      4. Qualified for Europe? You mean the Pre-Qualifying surely?? He failed to progress us in any of the years we got there. Indeed, he regressed us over his time.
      5. (Before you do)Don't even go there with the 'finished above Rangers' nonsense. We finished above a Rangers who had gone through 3 managers in one season.
      6. We were as successful as St Mirren, Inverness, Ross County, Kilmarnock and Hibs and less successful than St Johnstone during McInnes years at the helm, so save me this utter crap about 'being unfortunate'.
      7. Glass is inheriting a far worse situation than McInnes inherited, make no mistake about that. As mentioned, we were already improving before McInnes came in. We've been on the slippery slope under McInnes for the last 4 seasons. Glass is inheriting a squad littered with old player, littered with players McInnes re-signed in a desperate attempt to turn back the clock. He sold our entire forward line in January. Glass will need to find 7 first team regulars and at least 5 solid subs for next season. McInnes has left with the squad in total tatters, completely bereft of confidence due to his abysmal management.
He is to blame for the predicament we find ourselves in. We've seen more positivity in the last 3 weeks since his departure than we saw in his entire tenure.

@@scottw.3258 I said 9 major trophies outside of Alex Ferguson's tenure. The point is critisisng an Aberdeen manager for only winning 1 trophy is a bit daft considering the majority of managers don't. Call me deluded but I don't know if Jose Mourinho would have beat that Brendan Rodgers Treble Treble team given the difference in budgets. He did the best he could I think, and got Aberdeen to more more finals than they had been to in the previous 20 years. He got to Hampden 9 times out of 14 before usually coming up against a team with a far, far bigger budget.
You're saying a side 4th in the league that has finished in the top 4 for the last 8 years is worse than a team that finished 9th and 8th for 4 years running. Not sure how to answer that.
Also its only twice Aberdeen have finished 4th. One of those third places was lost on goal difference, and the other was lost by 1 point in a shortened season. Derek Mcinnes isn't Alex Ferguson but I still think he's a legend.
Maybe if, in the next century, every second Aberdeen manager wins trophies and Aberdeen finish in the top four 9 times out of 10 I'll change my opinion of Derek Mcinnes. But in my opinion, I think it more likely that only a couple of trophies are won and we will never see an Aberdeen team finish in the top 4 for 8 straight seasons. Hope I'm wrong :)

From 2013 until 17/18 we were class just unlucky to have champions league Celtic in the league and yes we should’ve won more cups early on and the league in 15/16 but it was the best Aberdeen sides since Calderwood. From 18/19 onwards it all went downhill and should have realistically left at the end of the 19/20 season, if it wasn’t for Covid curtailing the season I think he would’ve. Overall he was a great manager but things turned sower and that’s tarnished his reputation as an Aberdeen hero a wee bit. I do think had he stayed however we still would’ve failed to qualify for Europe but certainly not the 10th place Glass led us to. Should’ve appointed Goodwin straight away or used Barry Robson as interim until the end of 20/21.
But as ever, Thankful for your service Derek, Stand Free.

Why doesn't Aberdeen try to get someone in who's won trophys down south. I know money is an issue in Scotland but the chairman has to be ambitious at least if Aberdeen wanna win Scottish premiership or compete regularly in europe like in the 80s then gotta think bigger. Finishing 3rd or 4th surely isn't enough for the fans why not try for former player wanting to coach who has been in champions league semis or won english premiership like rangers did with steven Gerrard. May sound daft of me but asking a Rio Ferdinand or Wayne Rooney to coach Aberdeen I think Scottish teams gotta think bigger just an opinion though

We've got potentially a very exciting management team for next season. We've heard positive things from Glass already, he knows the kind of football he wants to play, what he wants to achieve. He's brought in the most successful captain and most influential player from Scottish football in the last 10-15 years, he's brought in the Striker coach who works with the English National team.
The truth of the matter is, you don't know who will be successful until they're given a shot. Personally i'd have loved to see Darren Fletcher given the chance, but obviously he signed up at Man Utd, so he was out the running.
We can only go on what Glass has said and done so far and that's been positive, far more so than the last 8 years under this perennial loser. I think Glass will do well. Next season will be a transitional time for us, as this guy has left us in a hell of a state with 10 players out of contract and a badly aging squad full of desperation signings.
Next season i'll be happy if Glass can maintain top 6 and puts in a real challenge for a trophy. The following season will be key for me, he'll have had a season, implemented ideas, he'll be shaping the squad the way he wants it.

@@scottw.3258 I know what you mean scott brown is gonna be there which is good appointment hes got the winning mentality in Scotland with Celtic I've heard leigh Griffiths might be going to Aberdeen which is interesting. Yes you dont know until you give a coach a try I see what your saying I'd just love to see 4 teams in Scotland challenging for the title every season like Aberdeen and Dundee United did in the 80s instead of old firm dominating all the time. Also would like bigger leagues what do u think about rangers and Celtic plus Aberdeen colt teams in lower leagues do u think that would improve our game or not

    • @scottw.3258
      @scottw.3258 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@matthewhilton1066 It would be great to have 4 teams with serious ambition of winning the title at the start of the season. From what Glass and Cormack have said recently mind you, it seems that will be the mindset at the start of each season and why shouldn't it be? If you don't start the season thinking you can win it, why bother?
As i've said in other comments, we suffer badly in Scotland. We're all born and grow up with this mentality drummed into us that Rangers and Celtic are all dominating and always will be. That mentality was there in the 70's as well, but a certain Alex Ferguson didn't follow that train of thought. Much of what made him so successful was mind games and psychology. He took a bunch of boys and, to be perfectly brutal about it, f*cked with their heads. He convinced them that Glasgow didn't want us to be successful, that they were saying nasty things about us, he instilled a paranoia essentially ,with positive reinforcement. Basically winding them up, and goading them...'are you going to stand there and be told you're no good by that bunch of pen pushers??'...Within a very short time, he turned a team who were happy to be second or third into winners, guys who saw second as every bit as bad as finishing last.
It's the first time in Scottish football history that a team outwith the old firm saw sustained success. Point being, if it's been done before, it can be done again. However, in Scotland, we see the Fergie years as a fluke, never to be repeated, because 'Rangers and Celtic will always win'. It's like a mantra. We've brainwashed ourselves into actually believing it.
Hopefully Glass and Brown can shake the players out of this stupor and convince them they are winners, because there is no doubt in my mind we have some very good players at the club, capable of having won silverware on a regular basis over the last 8 years, had we a Manager who believed it and was capable of passing that onto them.
As far as colt teams in the bottom tier. Why not involve all colt teams? Have them as part of the Scottish pyramid system. Rather than showing preferential treatment to the big two, which will ultimately strengthen their squads even more, have teams promoted on merit. So have the winners of the colt league, lowland league and highland league play a round robin at a neutral ground, winner is promoted.
I think for me too, i'd rather see us have 2 divisions in Scotland. A top division of 18 teams and a first division of 22. Simple 3 up, 3 down. Over time i firmly believe we'd have a far more competitive league.

The guy is a perennial loser mate. As a Dons fan i wanted him gone as far back as 2015. His frailties were all too obvious. He's been extremely fortunate to have managed us at a time when there was no Rangers, Hibs, Hearts or even Dundee Utd to contend with at various points over the last 8 years and he still achieved virtually nothing.
During his time we were as successful as Hibs, St Mirren, Ross County, Inverness, Kilmarnock and less successful than St Johnstone. These last 8 years could've and should've been a mini golden age for us, we should've jumped on from the League Cup win and won at least another 4 trophies in that period. We should also have been putting up a better fight in the finals against Celtic.
McInnes is a coward, he bottled so many games, cost us so many points, but so many fans see him as a saviour. He's made Stephen Glasses job 10x harder than it should've been with so many players out of contract and so much dead wood having returned to the club under McInnes.
I, for one am delighted this guy is now out of my club. We've shown more ambition in the last 2 or 3 weeks than we showed in 8 years under this guy.

This is one manager who will achieve nothing in the game. He ultimately achieved nothing with us. One Cup win on penalties was it. For 2 seasons he done well with us, then the cowardice crept in and very quickly became his hallmark. It saddens me that so many Dons fans hold this perennial loser in such high esteem as it only shows just how ambitious some of our fans are(or are not more to the point).
Lets not forget, he inherited a club on the up. He left us with 10 players out of contract and with zero confidence throughout the squad. Glass has got a massive rebuild over the summer thanks to this clown. I only hope fans give Glass time, because next season will be a transitional period for us. Hopefully we can get the likes of Griffiths in to add a real goal threat, but so many of the current squad need moved on, even some of the players in contract. Midfield is the most complete part of the squad, we need to rebuild the defence and forward line.

@@michaelwebster8666 People have blown smoke up his arse and he bought into the hype.
Lets look at his tenure... Won a League Cup versus a team playing in their first ever national final and we only beat them on penalties. In many ways that was to be the worst thing he done because for a generation of fans, he became some kind of Messiah figure.
We finished 2nd when that was where we should've finished( if you're using some fans argument of budget size being a reason we can never challenge the OF- we have far and away the 3rd largest budget in the league, 2nd largest when there was no Rangers).
Losing cup finals became habit, it became accepted and almost expected. Some use the excuse that we came up against Celtic, well, as imentioned, other teams came up against Celtic in earlier rounds and beat them. Other teams managed to reach finals and win them(Inverness comes to mind immediately).
The guy done well in his first two seasons, and then wet the bed. When we failed to win the title in 2015, he should've walked away, that was as far as he could take us, it was obvious to a blind man, but his arrogance and ego in believing the hype surrounding him prevented him from doing so.
Some of his signings were disgraceful as you say, Maynard, Tansey, the lad from Dundee Utd who never played a game, the boy from Inverness who missed that sitter on the goal line and never reached the level of performance he did at Caley. Stockley, Taylor(TWICE!!!!), bringing McGinn back...the list goes on.
He built us up initially, then systematically ripped us down. He was never capable of taking us on a level, we plateaued badly under him, but we were 'better than we used to be'. It's great to see a bit of ambition being shown at Aberdeen now, the future genuinely looks exciting. If Glass can deliver on what's being said, then exciting time lay ahead for us.

Shankland is definitely another, maybe had he been mentored properly he'd still be with us banging in 20 a season.
Wee Anderson is another who didn't get a fair crack of the whip under McInnes, but you could see his instinct is to score. he's got a striker's head on him. I recall in January, McInnes explaining why he put him out on loan to Hamilton...Saying he done nothing at Dunfermline, nothing at Ayr, he came back, got plenty of chances in the first team and didn't take them, so he was then shipped out to Hamilton... I honestly do believe McInnes is deluded. What chance did he give Anderson? 2 minutes at the end of a game here and there. Started him as a target man a couple of times, pumping high balls into a striker who clearly likes the ball to feet.

I always said Rangers dodged a bullet when this guy bottled it out of the move to Ibrox( and make no mistake about it, he bottled it). The unfortunate thing from my point of view was, we were left with him for another 3 years. He'll win nothing because he's a bottle merchant. Had he grown a set and went to Rangers, he'd have been sacked after 6 months, that's the hard reality of it. He'd have bottled it in the big games. He's too concerned about what other teams can do, rather than looking at his own teams threats.
