There's obviously other things that go into it too though, I mean we just don't have a "gun culture" here and groups like the NRA will have limited abilities to pressure the Scottish government (I think it's much the same with Westminster too but we have a separate law system in Scotland from England and a lot of powers have been devolved to the Scottish parliament as well). What leaves me totally surprised and angry is that nobody talks about the reason why this idea began to be taken into account, because shootings in schools in the United States are so frequent and among those affected are children who barely speak and don't have total control over their biological needs in a hostage situation or the need to remain locked up until the danger passes, probably hours, and that due to the inaction of parents, relatives, politicians and society in general, we may have to develop an entire industry based on portable toilets for school classrooms, isn't that the saddest thing you've ever heard?

I read Al Franken's book as a young person and my favorite part was how Franken finally got ahold of Limbaugh's fact checker who said his low pay was made up for by lots of vacation time. So funny.
I read that book in college. Still own it somewhere. It may have been one of my first exposures to politics beyond standard nightly news
Sam was technically wrong. That was his third book.
“My Uncle works at Nintendo,” is how this all got started in the 90s 😂

Rogan has a lot of details for something he is now backtracking on.
I heard the account where it was being kept in case of active shooter incidents. That they would distort it like that is even more disgusting.
I heard that it was being used to help clean up poop or pee or vomit if/when it happens in a classroom. It's also not in a box, it's in a bag.
It's not even kitty litter, it just looks like kitty litter.
@@1MarkKeller yeah I think the janitor has always kept some sawdust or litter like stuff for vomit etc...but I think the stuff that's kept specifically for shooting incidents isn't kept with the janitor (as that would defeat the purpose in most cases) so I'd say there is a different protocol for the active shooting scenario. I don't know for sure of course because I'm not American and haven't read the article but that would be my guess
Edit-typo
@@teethgrinder83 There is a "bathroom break amidst a shooting" plan.
That plan is "The kids get to piss themselves".
Thinking that there is a plan (and time or a chance to deploy it) to use cat sand as a makeshift bathroom during a mass shooting is actually more insane than the original conspiracy, on its face.
@@filthyshoggoth yeah well I've got to say I'd still probably piss myself even as the 39yr old adult I am. I genuinely don't understand how anyone can seriously think there is a protocol you can do that will actually keep people safe other than gun control of some kind. I'm sure plenty would disagree but all I know is that since we had the Dunblane school Massacre in Scotland and then tightened gun control more we haven't had a mass shooting since and we can still go hunting, sport shooting, farmers etc...can have guns for pest control and the likes-we just don't think owning a gun for self defense is a good enough reason to have one.
Anyway all I can say is I genuinely hope that someday soon something will change for the better in the USA because the way things are right now it's clear the current strategy doesn't work
@@teethgrinder83 gun culture in America will never change. Sadly
Joe Rogan has never once looked into the truth of anything

The part about middle-aged people being averse to fact-checking is very true. If you want to make a boomer uncomfortable, try fact-checking their nonsense in real time. They hate it.

I had heard a little of that nonsense before, but even if I hadn't, it just doesn't fucking sound true, c'mon.

I love how after he gets through the long way of "it wasn't my friend" (and look, just to throw Bro Jogan a bone, I'm pretty sure I have told online stories as "my friend told me" before, particularly when the internet was for nerds) he just launches into this completely unrelated story about seeing a furry convention. True. Money Megastardom and Machismo is one hell of a misinformation machine at times.
Maher has fallen for the same scam he used to warn people about. He said that just because a few conservatives are upset or talking about something doesn’t mean that millions of people feel that way.
