Because initially, William Fichtner was going to be revealed as the Shredder but fans got wind of this and it got huge backlash so Bay and the producers changed this last minute
here are my thoughts I’m a pretty big Ninja Turtle fan,I’ve seen all 193 eps of the 1987 series. All 155 eps of the 2003 series. And I’m currently caught up on Nickelodeon’s new series. Not to mention I’ve been reading the comics since I was a kid and Ive seen all the movies. So this new TMNT got me hyped……but it was just okay. I mean some of the action was badass and the turtles looked cool the first time you saw them, but the plot was all over the place and moving too fast. The 90s movie got the point across pretty well and still holds up. Without spoiling the film I’d consider it just one of the many alternate realities that TMNT 2003 and TMNT 2012 have canonized. So no harm done, though this film made the same mistake as the 2007 one and made Mikey a bit unbearable at times AND HE’S MY FAV TURTLE. I did like certain parts of it though and i would watch it on tv. Overall if I had to give this a spill crew/double toasted Rating it be a Rental .I still think its better than Turtles 3 or that 2007 flick tho
TOLDtheTRUTH No. I like the 1st Transformers film and Pain and Gain is one of my favorite movies ever. Hell I even said this wasnt too bad and Id watch it again. so Rental
I think they wear masks so that you can differentiate them, especially in the old cartoons/comics since they all looked the same. It just kinda stuck. Easier to label them with their mask color than with their weapons, especially when they're not wielded.
My logic was ninja headbands that had to be at the eye level, because their foreheads are too round, but your explanation makes too much sense. It wasn't the original reason, because the original comic was black and white if I'm correct. In the end, it's probably just artistic liberty. I'm not sure why Martin complains about that and not about the ridiculous costumes of all the comic book characters he reads about.
Then what about the OG comics where they all had red bandannas? Or the shows where they’re different shapes of green? Or taller and shorter and all that? Or even their voices? Or what about that time they were different species of turtles
Guys keep those reviews coming! This channel deserves way more views and subscribers and you'll get there soon enough. Funniest reviews on TH-cam and you also make valid points yet remain entertaining throughout the whole video. Major kudos to the team in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
He mentioned in the longer audioreview (over at their site or in soundcloud) that he used to read the original Mirage comic book and wasn't such a fan of the Original TV Show. Though he liked the first movie.
4:20 Yet again, the 2003 cartoon. THAT had a good balance of bright and vibrant colors, yet had a distinct comic book look to them. It was serious, yes, but it could also be hilarious.
1:57 Reminds you more of the comic book than any of the cartoons? I think you mean any of the 80's cartoon episodes. The 2003 cartoon was basically an almost complete adaptation of the comics, not 100% but a lot. Shredder mutants, Karai, City at War, Utroms, The Fugitoid, Triceratons, Splinter being Hamato Yoshi's pet etc.
I think I might be the only person on Earth who grew up with the 90's TMNT that actually enjoyed this movie. The cartoon, the live action movies, hell, I even listened to that god awful musical tour thing they did, and I still found myself liking and accepting this version. I didn't come into this movie wanting a retelling of stuff I've already seen, the reason people get hyped for a new TMNT series is because of all the new stuff it's gonna bring to the table. I completely agree with you on the action, it was great. It reminded me of some of the stuff I used to do with my action figures back when I was a kid. I honestly didn't mind the changes to the story either, each new iteration of Ninja Turtles is considered canon according to the Multiverse so I didn't really mind that a few of the characters were connected. We're dealing with a movie about mutated turtles, you suspended your disbelief long before that issue popped up lol. I was really surprised on how deep they hinted that this series could go in terms of previous TMNT characters. There were 3 times in the movie where they hinted/referred to scenarios that could bring in older characters and that was really cool. And Korey man, I'm with you, I got your back. When they started screaming "Dad" I kinda got choked up too haha.
You aren't the only one. I absolutely loved it. And I came in with the comics, back when the turtles all had red masks and none of that rainbow bullshit. I think it's important to remember that everyone who's done something within the Turtles "mythos" has taken their own liberties with it. Even Eastman and Laird have stated that they like the fact that something different has been brought to the Turtles with every iteration. This is just another one.
No you are not. I know when this to DVD I will get it. It's good and I was able to feel most of the plot holes myself. And who are we to tell these Ninja Turtles what their origin is. The movie was just a funny, good time. And they got the personalities of the turtles right and as long as that happened I could forgive a lot of stuff. Because that was my biggest fear going into the movie.
I just assumed that people loved the 2003 version. It actually seemed to try to take all the mythos and integrate them into a fairly serious (if still occasionally lighthearted) series. Does Martin really dislike it?
Mst3kfan1994 No idea. I just keep hearing people go on and on about the original show. Hardly anyone ever talks about the 2003 show. Honestly I prefer the 2003 show.
Honestly, I think where all this seriousness came from was the 2003 cartoon. Since it was trying to be darker and grittier like the comics, you'd often have these running plots with a lot of conflict between the turtles. They also had more defining personalities than before; Looking back at the 80s cartoon, there's not a whole lot that separates the turtles' personalities outside of what the intro says. But the 2003 show, they all have different interests and quirks outside of their ninjitsu training. And it was these more-defined personalities that led to conflicts (hell, Leo's arc in Season 4 is arguably the best of the series..). That's actually one criticism I have of this movie and other versions: the 2003 show led to "Angsty Raphael". We gotta have the brother who hates his family (but not really), just for the sake of conflict. Since Raphael's supposed to be the tough guy, he keeps getting turned into a brooding loner that we all hate. It was horribly done in the 2007 movie and Bay did it in this film. The thing is, 2003 Raph still did things with the family, even if he didn't approve; he was always cracking jokes at Mikey's expense and loved being with his brothers, something these other versions never got... The thing is, the 2003 show is still fairly light-hearted. There's a lot of corny jokes/puns and goofy plots being used to balance out the darker stories and characters. But then again, I still maintain the 2003 version is a pretty damn good interpretation of the Turtles..
Need to remember something, people may call it a reboot but is not. If you watch the animated movie and the new TNMT cartoon show you will see is just a parallel universe that all connects based on their timeline. So please stop saying they killed your childhood cause your childhood still alive. Plus this movie is awesome compared to the part 3 movie, live action TV show plus that awful music tour.
Who is Johnny Knoxville and why did he provide the voice for Leo when all the mo-cap actors got to play both the physical role and speaking role? Did Leo's mo-cap actor not have a good speaking voice or something? I'm sure he feels left out :(
I enjoyed the hell out of this flick. It reminded me of my childhood and for two hours I was able to smile and have fun. Relieved you guys enjoyed it as well
I think the biggest problem with this movie is that EVERYTHING had to be connected somehow! and thats where it felt through! It was an okay movie but it could have been really sort of good at best. I blame Sony.
the main problem with this movie was the extreme lack of ninja bad guys.... no good fight scenes, nothing remotely ninja ish about it... toooo many guns and no sword fights in a ninjas movie.
Originally they all wore Red Headbands, and my guess is cut out the eyes because of a Turtles head shape. And given that they are supposed to be learning from a Japanese Master Marital Artist it makes sense.
Tmnt was no where near as bad as what critics made it out to be...Let the hate machine roll on, because everyone in the theater applauded. What do you expect from a turtles movie?? Comedy, action.. silliness.. I loved every minute of it. Yes, it has it's flaws, but it was very entertaining, and seeing my turtles on the big screen again kicking ass was very enjoyable to watch. Sequel June 3rd, 2016!!!
dont say yall, say some cause i always liked the look of the turtles. my problem was from the first trailer and what i read about the film but the latest couple of trailers since comic con has turned me around
People forget the original comic was pretty dark before they took the 90s cartoon & made it ore lighthearted. & personally I like this new look for the turtles & I like that they're 6ft tall. As they keep pumping out turtles TV shows & movies the looks of the turtles are going to keep being altered so why complain?
I hated this movie. It had way too much stuff crammed into it, they gave the turtles an origin that pissed me off and (to me) killed the movie, it made way too many references to the first movie as a reminder that I could be watching that instead, and it has Michael Bay's fingerprints all over it from the countless explosions to the fake looking CGI characters. Also because of that shameless plug for Orange Crush, I can never drink it again until they're done promoting the Blu-ray and DVD because I don't want to feel like I'm giving Michael Bay my money.
I had low expectations since it's Michael Bay and the first couple trailers shows alot of his influence which usually means more spectacle over characterization but the later trailers show the turtles interacting spliced in with action was cool (like Korey said you can actually tell what's happening in the action scenes) atleast that's what I got from latest trailer..still don't expect it to be above 7/10 for most people just cuz the expected Michael Bay gripes that come with the 'Transformers' movies when taking any property and not knowing what to do with the material all that well.
This movie was alright, it wasn't as bad I thought it would be, but it's decent. A rental for all 80's and 90's turtle fans. Matinee/rental (I'm going to call this rating Early Bird) for the new generation.
I grew up on the original series but caught a few episodes of most of the off-shoots and reboots and was able to find something I liked in just about all of them. I like to take things as they are and can let my bias go most of the time to enjoy what's current. I hated the animation and some of the changes in the Nickelodeon version at first but came to embrace them the more I watched. (Like at first I couldn't stand the thought of teenage April but later realized her hanging out with teenagers was less creepy if she were the same age.) That said I've got my limits and I gave Micheal Bay the benefit of the doubt twice with the first two Transformers movies and regretted it. After that I was out, I'm not going back and I'm not supporting anything the man does as I feel like I'm watching a bad fanfiction brought to life. If this happened to come on TV or I was at someone's house and they wanted to watch it I might give it a sit through but none of my money's going into it.
If Shredder was a regular sized guy, with incredible skills, been able to take down this turtles with ninja skills making it look simple, that evil guy would had been impressive to watch and more interesting than this thing on a machine, they are basically putting ninja skills to a side, just for a power vs technology fight.
i grew up on the 90s turtles, and being a fan of them i have to say i really liked this movie. still think donatello could of been better but it was great overall. people go into these movies with a negative mind set and will come out with the same mind set. they watch tge movie to look for shit wrong with it. its entertaining, its cool, and its hilarious. last i checked thats what the turtles were.
This movie was too overly complicated with the story compared to what it needed to be. The ending is basically the ending from Amazing Spider-Man almost to the point where I thought the Lizard would show up and help Shredder out with his big master plan while Spidey would help the Turtles. Tommy's right, too many liberties and no heart. The 1990 Turtles movie is still the best of the movie versions as far as I'm concerned. Sorry, Martin, it just is.
They had announced that they wanted to make them aliens at a convention and the fans flipped out to voice their disapproval of that decision. Thanks to that outcry the director scrapped the concept immediately. I don't normally like overreaction but it definitely helped in this case.
I still remember the Friday night my Dad took me to see the original film in 1990. I associate the turtles with nurturing, like my Saturday morning cartoon babysitters, the Sundays I spent playing the NES games. I look at this one, and just imagine my four gay Dads looking and talking differently.
Honestly, I wanted this movie to be great. I grew up with the original animated series, and I want to see a badass Turtles movie. No matter how much this looked like complete jank, I still wanted it to be good.
And your boy is right ! The turtles in the early 90s had soul ! The new one lacks soul ! .. Let me give you a example .. Remember the turtles in the early 90s, the scene where leonardo is sitting in the chair upset that ralph is in the bathtub all hurt and fucked up .. That scene had emotional value !
I was born in 1984, so the Ninja Turtles I grew up with ain't nothing like most of what these kids know them as... Honestly, I'm still hurting from the the Robocop remake, so I don't know if I have it in me to watch this one.. lol
You guys are truly entertaining, It's a shame subscribing to Double Toasted is so expensive, it's the same price as a Netflix subscription, maybe a dollar cheaper. Other than that, you guys are great!
How can I subscribe to Double Toasted? I did a internet search and couldn't find the site. Right now I'm mainly only listening to their podcasts on the soundcload. You don't have to say it here, you can message me to my inbox about it.
You guys are the most entertaining reviewers on TH-cam.
Turtles look wayyyyy too creepy in CGI
I hated the fact that Shredder was nothing more than a secondary villain that looked like a transformer.
Because initially, William Fichtner was going to be revealed as the Shredder but fans got wind of this and it got huge backlash so Bay and the producers changed this last minute
"wigga wigga shit".....crickets
Omg, I laughed so hard at Koreys face after that.

100% agree
Michael bay :/
JaxBlade Pain & Gain was great movie hahah made a bad situation very funny.

I love it when Korey flips out
Have you seen the review for the first Haunted House movie?
I have! That one is one of my favourite classic spill reviews
1:20 "good news: it's not that bad. bad news: it's not that good." well spoken
9:36 korey's face haha
That Rza joke !
😂😂😂😂
Wait, Korey is about 43, so he was about 19 when the first movie came out. How could that be part of his childhood?
Well... he's 42. :P
I guess when you're that old (not saying he's old), 18 is like a kid to you.
He mentioned in the longer audioreview (over at their site or in soundcloud) that he used to read the original Mirage comic book and wasn't such a fan of the Original TV Show. Though he liked the first movie.

Dude, that is like reading the comics. Love that series
nostalgia =/= good cartoon
eeeeeeeeeeYES!!!
I wanted to hate this movie but after seeing it I loved this movie even though the movie had it flaws
i agree that 90s movie stills as more soul then any of the other remakes.
I watch y'all way too fucking much that I'm going back 5 years lol. Grade A entertainment....
i love these guys
Nice video. However, I think it's worth the ticket price.
I would like to credit to this movie. This film had only one explosion and it came at the very end of the film.
I think I might be the only person on Earth who grew up with the 90's TMNT that actually enjoyed this movie. Pancheezey Games your right
Am I the only person that actually liked the 2003 Ninja Turtles better than the 1990's turtles?
No, you're not. the 2003 version was pretty badass.
No, the 2003 show was fantastic until fast forward and back to the sewage
finebrother85 I agree. But until then, it was pretty good. The show made up for it with Turtles Forever IMO.
One of the guys that voices the Turtles is from MIB 2
Honestly, I think where all this seriousness came from was the 2003 cartoon. Martin's pun at 9:27
Who is Johnny Knoxville and why did he provide the voice for Leo when all the mo-cap actors got to play both the physical role and speaking role?
Did Leo's mo-cap actor not have a good speaking voice or something?
I'm sure he feels left out :(
I enjoyed the hell out of this flick. It reminded me of my childhood and for two hours I was able to smile and have fun. Relieved you guys enjoyed it as well
Actually the ninja turtles started out as dark and gritty
I think the biggest problem with this movie is that EVERYTHING had to be connected somehow! and thats where it felt through! It was an okay movie but it could have been really sort of good at best. I blame Sony.

God fucking damnit, did Korey just give this fucking TMNT movie the same fucking rating as GotG?! Captain Matinee at its finest folks
GotG is way better than TMNT. This coming from a TMNT fan.
He prefers The Black Wonder!
Wonder!
Wonder!
Wonder!
I really like this film and i was never a huge fan up until fox came out with there 03 reboot of the series,
This movie will not achieve the box office success Bay hopes for.
That title belongs to Guardians of the Galaxy
THANK GOD! someone besides me ACTUALLY likes this movie ^_^
Sequel June 3rd, 2016!!!
uuuh watch out, we have a internet tough guy here!!!
What i expect from a ninja turtles movie is real ninja action, blood, violence, humor, and decent story telling.
But I might not see it
dont say yall, say some cause i always liked the look of the turtles. my problem was from the first trailer and what i read about the film but the latest couple of trailers since comic con has turned me around
I liked the 2014 turtles movie. I'm planning on seeing it again thursday. ^_^
The Intro Remind me so much, of Bébé's Kids! Great Animation!!!
I love the Double Toasted theme, how do I get a download of it?
This movie was made more for the Asian markets
I think they did a decent job not the greatest movie ever but it did the job .
Man, this show is so much fun. I love these guys!
I'm Not Donating A Cent to BAY. I'd rather spend it on my Bae.
the third guy knows what he is talking about. Martin and Kory... smh, cause this movie made no sense.
11:32 That's some cosmic irony right there.
People forget the original comic was pretty dark before they took the 90s cartoon & made it ore lighthearted. & personally I like this new look for the turtles & I like that they're 6ft tall. As they keep pumping out turtles TV shows & movies the looks of the turtles are going to keep being altered so why complain?
whoop. how much money did you guys get from Bay
***** how come?
Those old 90s movies were Better. No doubt
11:04 LOL!!! when Martin asked "Why They Wear Masks" that shit made me laugh SOOOO HARD because it's true. LMFAO!
So it's as bad as I feared....fuck Michael bay
Yup. Its Transformers with Turtles. Product placement, Megan ass shots, lame jokes. They're all here.
So......second viewing of guardians!

Quincy Stewart you don't have to step in lava to know it hurts...
Anyone notice the bug at the end of the into? Martin swings in twice...

Martin....two words. NINJA TURTLES. One word in there is why they wear masks.
Haha!!!!!!! Martin made that corny wigga pun and korey's pause/look, Priceless!!!!! Hilarious!!!
The movie is good, people should stop being prejudice
best movie this summer
TOLDtheTRUTH GotG
it was good. I enjoyed it! like they said not as much soul as the 90s verson but more special effects and better fight scenes.
Rodrigo Salamanca Fuck GOTG. That movie is so over rated just like ALL Marvel films
***** well that escalated quickly.
Welcome back, guys! Spill crew will never die! :)
good to see you again korey
Haha Martin reach over and punch Korey in the face one of these times
hella funny review and informative..Subscribed !
I love this show. You guys are hilarious!
i wish korey left in the part at 9:42 when they gave martin heat for that pun- shit was hilarious in the full thing
This movie was alright, it wasn't as bad I thought it would be, but it's decent. A rental for all 80's and 90's turtle fans. Matinee/rental (I'm going to call this rating Early Bird) for the new generation.
Anyone know what they're talking about at 4:35?
As a TMNT fan I have to say this movie isn't that bad bit it's far from perfect🤔😁
Anybody know if Tony Guerrero is going to join this site?
Wow, this is a really good discussion. Good job guys!
I grew up on the original series but caught a few episodes of most of the off-shoots and reboots and was able to find something I liked in just about all of them. I like to take things as they are and can let my bias go most of the time to enjoy what's current.

Those artists have really improved those cartoons since spill closed down :D
If Shredder was a regular sized guy, with incredible skills, been able to take down this turtles with ninja skills making it look simple, that evil guy would had been impressive to watch and more interesting than this thing on a machine, they are basically putting ninja skills to a side, just for a power vs technology fight.
Holy shit I couldn't stop laughing you guys got tears in my eyes from the lolz
i grew up on the 90s turtles, and being a fan of them i have to say i really liked this movie. still think donatello could of been better but it was great overall. people go into these movies with a negative mind set and will come out with the same mind set. they watch tge movie to look for shit wrong with it. its entertaining, its cool, and its hilarious. last i checked thats what the turtles were.
Mutanium and Transformium.
That RZA comparison made my day XD
This movie was too overly complicated with the story compared to what it needed to be. The ending is basically the ending from Amazing Spider-Man almost to the point where I thought the Lizard would show up and help Shredder out with his big master plan while Spidey would help the Turtles. Tommy's right, too many liberties and no heart. The 1990 Turtles movie is still the best of the movie versions as far as I'm concerned. Sorry, Martin, it just is.
+Shawn Skvarna Funny that How It Should Have Ended (HISHE) has actually done that.
+Tony Davis (Battlion50) I saw that and agreed completely. God bless their hearts! :)
They had announced that they wanted to make them aliens at a convention and the fans flipped out to voice their disapproval of that decision. Thanks to that outcry the director scrapped the concept immediately. I don't normally like overreaction but it definitely helped in this case.
he look like the RZA lmfao...yall dudes crazy. keep up the good work
When's the double toasted version of co-host showing up?
Later this year, most likely.
I love the effort it took, to make your costumes look half-ass haha.
Middle of the road or not, I'm still gonna see it.
Will I like it? There's only one way to find out.
Kudos to Tommy for being the voice of reason!
RzA do look like splitter lmao, i see Tommy doing his job excellent review yall
3:47 I Lost it right there! Btw can anyone tell me who that is being compared to Splinter? Regardless, this part killed me! XD
RZA of the Wu Tang Clan. Legendary rapper bro.
Lmao this review was funny as hell!!
"They're teenagers, they're going through a phase" hahaha
One of your best reviews. Hey, am I double toasting if I toast a double?
I died when he said Splinter looked like the RZA.
I was born in 1984, so the Ninja Turtles I grew up with ain't nothing like most of what these kids know them as...
Honestly, I'm still hurting from the the Robocop remake, so I don't know if I have it in me to watch this one.. lol
"Ol' wigga-ass turtle!" lol
As with Transformers, Micheal Bay had to keep reminding us how hot Megan Fox was too.
Wigga wigga shit.
Korey's face
korey and martin are always fighting
They weren't saying mutanium, it was mutagen, which is an actual thing.

Eh, I thought the movie was O.K. A low Matinee or at least a high rental.
