Excellent description of the pros & cons. I’m exactly who you made this video for. Up in the air trying to decide between the two. For me the superior display format and separate indoor thermometer make my choice the 2000. I have a vacation home on the Wa. State coastline”Ocean Park”equipped with a 12 year old lacrosse technology wifi station and this will be a wonderful upgrade.
    Love the birds!

I set up my WS - 2000 today. One interesting note, my display does not have the the multi channel set-up function. I was planning to add more sensors for my garage and attic. I'll need to call their support line.

It does have multi-channel. It's the third button from the right with a "CH" and two arrows circling it.
You go to Options, then the last option More, then Sensors ID to add sensors.

Awesome Video! I'm thinking about getting the 2902 but I was wondering whether there are any issues viewing the display from different angles? I want to mount it on a wall but idk if you have to be looking straight on to view the data.

if you are just looking for a display I would get the 2902. But if you need the options that the 2000 has, get it. With the 2000 you can push weather data to a custom server. Many HAMs use the 2000 because of this option.

I want to note also that i would not recommend having both of these stations at one location. Both the display's get data from both sensor arrays and they can alternate back and forth meaning for example, if you are on weather underground or the ambient weather site looking at your data for your weather stations, you will notice that the data for both stations are identical because they are likely getting data off the same sensor array.
I made this video to compare both and later found this to be an issue, so i have since re located my 2902a to a family members house.

No problem! And anything that has a firm hold but at the same time, is high in the air. It’s nearly impossible to find the perfect spot. Just make sure it’s not in a location that would prevent winds, rainfall, or near a surface that would enhance sunlight.

The thing that's only different is the WS-2000 has a nicer screen, firmware updates, and a SD-Card slot to save weather history (if you prefer not to use the online features). When it comes to power outages, I think you would be able to rig the display where it can be powered with a cheap rechargeable USB bank. But if you don't care about any of those, there's no difference in the sensors. The newer 2902B and C series can add new sensors, while the "A" version can't. If you're mainly wanting it for WiFi features, and you want battery backup, the cheaper one would be for you. Or if you don't want a display at all, the IP version is good as well.

So update on this I was told by ambient weather I could purchase the console and it would connect to my 2092 outdoor station. However, whenever I did this, the console was $199 plus you have to buy the indoor temperature detector separately after everything was said and done. It was only $45 more for me to buy the WS 2000 brand new with the outdoor station. I still would’ve went the cheaper route, but my weather station has been sitting outside in the elements for about three years. I don’t know what the life expectancy is on these things, but I figure better not chance it. Plus I wanted the lightning detector and the outdoor protector for it. If you bundle things, they actually take about $10 off the list price so I got my lightning detector $10 cheaper. My birthday is on the 15th and my wife said she wanted me to get it because she knows weather makes me happy! My total cost for everything was $396. That was the WS 2000, a lightning detector and an outdoor lightning protector weather covering. Plus the 10% military discount. Now my next thing is, I need to figure out how to mount it to work better I currently have my 2092 strap to a 6 foot fence post. I want to try to put it on top of my house. I’m just not entirely sure how to yet.

I just purchased a WS-2000. I am not impressed yet, as it was over $200 and didn't have a power adapter to power the screen. Contacting Ambient Weather, it would appear this isn't normal. Hopefully, they will send me one at no charge.
Secondly, I have to spend another $40 to buy a mounting pole as it doesn't come with one. My previous system was about half the price (La Crosse) and came with a mounting bracket and pole.
The WS-2000 has no instructions, and you have to assemble the sensor unit. They don't tell you which spindle the wind speed and direction pieces mount to, and they are interchangeable. I had to search for a video to see which was which.
The WS-2000 does not have an internal temperature sensor in the display. The less-expensive La Crosse does. The screen does not have battery backup like the La Crosse. The battery door on the outdoor part isn't very obvious how to open. You need to pull it hard away from the unit so it slides off. It doesn't flip open.

I have a lot of trees around my house and I would imagine when the leaves start falling they will get stuck in the rain gauge. Would be a pain constantly going up on the roof to clean it out. I think a rain gauge should be separate from the unit so it can be kept at a lower height easy to clean. Your thoughts???

I've had the WS-2902A for 2 years now and in my opinion it's not worth upgrading to the WS-2000 if there is no battery backup during a power outage - that's a major downer. Otherwise the newer display looks much better but you're still pretty much getting the same functionality for roughly 60% of the cost in the WS-2902A/B. I also run a WS-2801A for measuring conditions around the house both inside and outside (it has up to 3 sensors) so it's kinda pointless for me to replace the main weather station until it dies. I wonder if a WS-2000 display would work with a 2902A system... hmmm.. guessing probably not.

    • @MitchWestWeather
      @MitchWestWeather  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I don’t think it would, but if I was being honest with you, I’d agree. I bought my 2902a but got the 2000 as a gift. I retired the 2902 but I’d still have it if I didn’t get the other as a gift. There is things you can upgrade like lightning detectors etc with the 2000. So that’s cool.

Plenty of rechargeable power packs out there for about $30. Some put out 12.0 volts and 5.0 volts DC.
