The final act of one my absolute favorite works. Scene 7 is notable as, in his own words, being very contrary to his nature as depicting terror and horror (which he certainly succeeds in). Scene 8 presents Francis's death and glorious resurrection, marvelous transformations of previous themes and motifs.
    My highlights for this act:
55:20 The brilliant (both meanings) ending choral, especially the absolutely exuberant chords at 59:40 to the end, interlaced with joyous birdsong. In my opinion, really one of the greatest endings of any work.
42:03 The most exquisite form of the love theme
14:42 The terrifying use of the rhythmic motif from scene 4
    5:29 The eerie atmosphere here
46:46 Bells ringing up its greatest development at 51:18
11:02 The epic voice of Christ

Thank you so much for taking the time to make and post this. It's a blessing!
When I am depressed or deprived of spiritual well-being, I need only listen to this work. The happiest of tears ensue in the finale. What a masterpiece!

Thank you very much for putting this together. Its also one of my absolute favourite pieces. I was lucky enough to work on it as an assistent when we made it in darmstadt 2018. And I fell in love with this peace. I always had the feeling that the last act builts more than the others up to the final. The so called apotheosis de la joie. By the way sorry for my bad english and again thank you. And for the others great fun with this masterpeace.

I swear, I was so close to buying a ticket to the 2018 Darmstadt production, I just didn't have enough money, ironically, now I live practically next to Darmstadt... Oh well, maybe after Corona some time

It took me a while to get used to the Stigmata scene, because it's so different from anything else Messiaen has done, but now it's one of my favorite things I've ever heard, few pieces come close to this level of intensity. Especially the enormous relief in the end choral is fantastic. And the sheer joy that ends it... magnificent. I can only imagine the Herculean effort it must have taken to make this video, score and everything... Bravo!
(One small thing I noticed: You translate "mort de la croix" as "death of the cross", I'm no French expert but I think "death on the cross" or "death by the cross" would be a more accurate translation.)

Yeah that translation makes more sense, thanks.

I remember in Madrid when it was done the opera in 2011, that I literally "suffered" the Stigmata Scene. I felt it brilliant in the intensity, in the way Messiaen used things of his style to turn it into "his anti-style" and use the "Integral Serialism", some "march" rhythms to create the suffering Saint François had receiving the Stigmas. Tonight I had listened that part...and well, I cried, and at the same time I was reading the score...It is so amazing. I thank God or Universe for such a great musician Messiaen was.
