In this lesson you will learn about the subjunctive 2 and unreal conditional sentences through interesting example conversations. By listening to and repeating the dialogues, you can begin to automate the grammar, learn new vocabulary and practice speaking. You will learn German through stories. You can understand German without any previous knowledge just by looking at the images. This video is best suited for learners who have level A2 or B1 German.
With the subjunctive II you're able to express something that's not real. This form is used in the following different situations:
wishes or dreams
Unreal conditions using the conjunction "wenn" (if)
Polite requests and questions
suggestions and recommendations (with modal verbs)
At the start of the video Rahel and Andreas meet in front of the German school. They talk about what they would do if they had CHF 10 million. In the second story, two children meet at a playground and talk about their future (future tense). In the third story, Julian explains to the secretary why he was late for work. Here he uses many unreal conditional sentences in the present and perfect, because he can no longer change the past.
