    Pretty good session. I was in the quintrex 420 next to you having some fun with the Kingies.

      How good is that. Would be nice to see some legal king schools show up for some more fun on the light gear. Winter I hope 🤞🏽

    Australian Bonito @3.00 , Watsons/Leaping have lines that more like dots above the lateral line. Another great session. Cool to see that school of trag.

      Thanks for confirming. The bay is littered with giant balls of these leaping bonito now. Can I catch one. Yes. Can I catch two, no chance. They are so damn picky 😆

    I love your videos but please but a longer leader. A suggestion is to use a smaller hook thanks for making these vids

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for enjoying my videos ☺️ I can’t fish with long leaders hey, the longer it is the less control I have over striking and yeah the tiny leader is my go to now. If I was to fish by casting and leaving the rod in a rod holder then I will go much longer but it’s rare I will put the rod down.

    Don’t know what happened to all the Trevors this year.
    Last year they were thick at this time….. not that I miss them.
    Even the Squid are hard to catch one day, and not even there the next.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are not wrong Adz. I’ve seen 3 in the bait this year which is pretty crazy. I’m just happy the leatherjackets never came back after the 2019 plague in botany 😆

  • @georgebets4128
    @georgebets4128 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You need to invest in a hand towel 😅

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      😂 that’s what fishing clothes a for. I had 5 spikes towels made and they are all in the ocean somewhere after flying off the boat when I forgot to secure them. I am quite hopeless. There are more jackets out there than I care to admit. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @georgebets4128
      @georgebets4128 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have hand towels with loops of rope on them. They just get added to the rails and it stops them flying off.
      I will get you some and you can brand them Spikes 😅😅😎😎

    Mel how come you have such a short leader

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, because I fish vertical with the rod in my hands at all times I like to have as little “give” in the leader as possible. Similar to walking a dog on a leash, the longer the leash the less control of the dog, the shorter the leash the more control. I get way more hookups on the first strike when it’s short and I’m in control. If you were to fish by lasting out away from the boat and letting the rod sit in the rod holder then yes a longer leader is more effective. Hope that made some sense 😆

    Hi Spike. Do you let the sinker touch the bottom or hold it just off?

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I try to keep the sinker just resting on the bottom with no slack in line. Once in place I sometimes lift the rod tip about a foot and re-introduce the bait back to the floor. When a fish is have a strike I drop the tip to the water and wait for the take then strike. Kind of like a teaser method but it works very well as long as you keep the line tight and just resting the sinker on the floor with the bait resting near by
