  • Teúl de González Ortega in Zacatecas is a Magical Town whose natural beauty and architecture give it a colonial aspect of extraordinary simplicity and beauty.
    Teúl is guarded by gargoyles, cobbled roads and quarry walls; and neighborhood of friendly, warm and mezcal people. The region is fertile in blue agave, with it various unique types of mezcal are made; here you have the opportunity to learn about the production process in one of the factories or workshops.
    In Teúl you will also find fascinating workshops where wood is worked, particularly in making masks for dancers; or those of pottery. This is the only municipality in the whole country that has two Holy Martyrs and pre-Hispanic monuments of great importance;
    Features:
    Teúl (teotl) God, is also an adjective that qualifies the Chichimecas as sacred, revered, respectable (Tetl) "Great round stone", according to others. The area was inhabited since pre-Hispanic times by groups such as the Teules, a branch of the Caxcan group, and there are also references to Chichimecas.
    “From González Ortega”, because in 1800 an uncle of General J. Jesús González Ortega arrived at Teúl and founded a school. The proximity of the general to the municipality, through decree No. 195, changes the name of San Juan Bautista del Teúl to Teúl de González Ortega in 1935.
    It is located at an altitude of 1,900 m, surrounded by mountains, plateaus and some plains. The climate is semi-warm to temperate, with an average temperature of 17º C; and a couple of rivers that feed the dams in the region. So there are forests with timber species and important agricultural and livestock resources; The sowing of blue agave stands out, culminating in the preparation of mezcal.
    Local cuisine is popular with stews with pipián, oven gorditas, ranch cheese, and cottage cheese. Souvenirs are purchases based on pottery, handmade sweets, carved wood, mezcal, and textiles such as frayed shawls.

    Cerro del Teúl Archaeological Zone
    Until a decade ago, the Cerro del Teúl, south of Zacatecas, was in the memory of its inhabitants only one of the last bastions of the fierce caxcanes that succumbed to the Spanish invasion, however, a long-term project was revealing to "The abode of the gods" as a site that maintained an uninterrupted occupation of approximately 1,600 years, started a couple of centuries before our era.
    The archaeological team of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) revealed part of the ceremonial center that is distributed on the northeast slope of the hill: the Main Plaza, the Sunken Patio and the Ball Game Court, to constitute the third archaeological zone open to the public in that state, after La Quemada and Alta Vista Chalchihuites, and 191 in the country.

    Su nombre representa la unión de la tradición prehispánica y la modernidad. Teúl se deriva de Teotl en chichimeca y que significa sagrado o venerado, y "De González Ortega" porque el general Jesús González Ortega pasó gran parte de su vida aquí. Así como su nombre combina dos culturas, este pueblo también combina sencillez y belleza en sus monumentos coloniales, impecables calzadas empedradas enmarcadas por casonas y árboles frutales.

    Los pueblos mágicos más bellos de mexico se encuentran de zacatecas hacia el centro y sur de mexico ya que poseen la mayor parte de edificaciones de la época virreinal hacia el norte los pueblos son más austeros y muy sobrios
