Massive Abandoned Mansion Resort House Forgotten in The Catskill Mountains

  • Beautiful old fishing resort from the early 1900’s built in the early 20th century and then closed down and switched over too apartments in the 1950’s. Then by the 1990’s only the first floor was still lived in by an older woman who ran a small shop out of the house. After her passing in the mid too late 90’s the large mansion has sat empty ever since and now is in its final days sadly with massive structural collapses after decades of neglect. Would’ve been a beautiful place back in the day with a beautiful setting overlooking out too a peaceful stream up in the Catskill mountains of New York.

History being forgotten, construction ways no one remembers, craftsmen who none can copy. “Old is bad, new is best.” NO.
The reasons for this deterioration of old houses and buildings are so numerous, and they all start with “circumstance”. Your videos are so interesting, and then comes sadness. But someone needs to make a record of people, things, days gone passed. And you are the man doing the job, and very good at it.
Thank you time and time again.❤

Well that was interesting and very, very dangerous! So pleased that you live to tell another tale. Perhaps it used to be a guest house with so many rooms, floors and staircases. Would have loved to have seen it intact but respect goes to you for showing us another amazing old relic❤

I think this house is beyond the "fixer-upper" category. Such a shame, must have been lovely in its day. That front porch was amazing. Be careful in these old places that are sinking like this one is. Thanks, Kappy

Kappy, I've commented on a lot of your videos. What I haven't told you is that I'm an MD working in a very busy urgent care but I did ER work for 20 years. I've seen lots.... LOTS.... of injuries from people falling through floors or roofs, working on renovations and construction. I say that to say this...... please be careful in these old houses. You are always cautious, and for good reason, so please don't take any unnecessary chances just to show us a room. Wow, that house would have been amazing in its "hay day" but unfortunately it looks ready for demolition. I sure hope your tetanus shot is up to date. I truly enjoy your video posts so please keep-em coming.

Hi Kappy! 1st time commenting, but watch your channel all the time. This house looked beautiful! I honestly have no idea how these homes just fall into disrepair and just rot away. I have a couple questions. How do you locate these amazing sites? Is there a common web forum just for explorers? Lastly, at the end of this video you showed us like an entire Ghost Town of these homes. Is that the same area?
Keep up the good work! Please stay safe! You have an adoring fan base and that's awesome. I look forward to the next video!

Kappy, I really LOVE this forgotten House in the Catskill Mountains sitting in a remote area💙💙💙💙💙. It feels sad that it was forgotten😢😢 and that it is sinking too😢😢. However, like you said, "It is amazing how strong the staircases are" in spite of everything clasping around it. The canopy on the porch is gorgeous with the upper frame designs🤗🤗, but again, it is so sad that it is clasping too. I have a really good feeling when you explored this house, as if there were some really happy times. And I LOVED the 1970s to 1980s chairs and the 1970s T.V. set!!! The 1930s style sink, wallpaper, the fancy doorknob, and @ 12:38, I really like the structure of this attic room and window with the folded mattress left behind💙💙💙💙💙. And the guests had who stayed there or maybe it was a Family's Summer home, but either way the people who stayed there had a really nice view of the creek💙💙💙💙💙. Thank you for your bravery in filming this dangerous to explore, but beautiful Mansion Resort home in the Catskills🤗🤗!!!

This was not a private home. It was a hotel although that is probably not what it was called in the day. The wing was the common area, dining and kitchen. The Catskills was a huge vacation area for New Yorkers. There are many abandoned resorts large and small throughout this area. The demise of these places was cheap airfare. The Pocono Mountains of PA. is another area where you will find many abandoned resorts all closed due to cheap airfare. What is a bonus about these places being closed is there is a lot less people in the trout streams and this is a bonus for fisherman. Nice video as usual, thanks.

All ceilings were 10 ft, including rooms on second floor.. All rooms were at least 15x15 ft.. Fireplaces in every room.. Cold storage under the kitchen floor accessed only from outside.. Staircase at least 4 ft wide with huge railings, wide posts with huge ball on top.. railings running all around on second floor so you could see staircase and entry hallway.. I never realized what a fabulous home it was a hundred years later when I lived there in the 1960’s.. I dream of that house quite regularly. I even dream I bought the house and still live there.. You can tell from the front of the house. It was collapsing in the middle. The house was the size of mansion. But I believe it was most likely a boarding house. As usual...HEARTBREAKING...and as usual too...there always seems to be toilet paper on the dispensers in every house😂😅...no matter the destruction.

Definitely unusual to find two full second floors before the Attic.
The higher you went the better it got in some ways.
One of your upcoming houses is similar to this one, 2 full second floors, before the attic. Hopefully, it's in better shape.

What an old beauty. I will call it the middle, lopsided house. Doubt it up much longer. Appreciate the tour of this old beauty.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Sharing in the fascination of these aged beauties 🏚️💕 I’m so thankful for your content! I’m waaaaaaay down in New Zealand 🇳🇿 and will never get to America. I love the Midwest most of all! To me it’s the heart of America… This huge home is absolutely stunning, along with its location. Love and appreciate your work Kappy 🙌🏼

Where is the pink Queen Ann Victorian at 19:17 located? Could you go through it? I’d love to see inside especially if there’s a servant stair.

That place could probably be fixed up like new for about 25k and turned into a B&B.

I’m only 30 years old and can’t believe someone was still living in this house during my lifetime! Yikes!
